Jaws of Defeat – Episode 57 – Dreadnought Improvement Project v2 Spanish Campaign

The Armada has a bold plan, to throw themselves at Germany’s vastly more powerful fleet to save what ships we can in the hopes that they can inflict so much damage the Germans come to terms. Not my first choice for a plan, but I can’t run and realistically have no counter to the massive mega ship the High Seas Fleet has. Of course all my efforts could be in vain as I face probably the hardest battle I’ve ever seen in the game.

  1. I think you should have stayed in the invasion area. It would have ended the war sooner and possibly in your favor.

EDIT: Unless the German fleet rose the Invasion requirements to beyond the tonnage you had available. Then, yeah, you were effed either way.

  2. The Germans got nearly 400k VP for taking Austria. How was it worth that much? I know it was Austria's home province, but it shouldn't be worth that much when someone else owns it.

  3. 20:19 You were thinking about mothballing and selling the Oquendos, that would have been a sort of shame for them…

Instead, you ultimately gave them the death of a warship. Fighting to the last breath and going down in a blaze of glory trying to save her friends.

    HONORS TO THE FALLEN!

  4. With great bravery and sacrifice, you made the German navy bleed. Then the hand of fate struck you down with timing and logistics. More unintentional realism from UA:D. Once more into the breach my good man!

  5. Well, never seen that before… the AI actually winning a war with a player. Them taking all your ships was nasty but maybe they'll put up even more of a fight with player ships next time?

  6. And that, ladies and gentlemen, was the battle that happens towards the end of every Hollywood scifi movie where the entire good guy fleet gets destroyed right before the intrepid hero singlehandedly wins the whole thing by dramatically defeating the enemy admiral in a one-on-one duel. 🤓

  7. I think going forward the Spanish navy has to adapt to the decisive battle doctrine. Big ships that can turn the tide of battles, like the Siegfried you faced. I think it needs 3 huge 80k ton 18inch ships that can be fleet leaders, or together in a vanguard to quickly win wars in decisive battles. Besides that supplement them with 16inch battlecruisers. CA and CL shouldn't be a priority anymore since although they protect and cause damage to economy with the raiding, they are not able to win wars against the huge monster that the other countries have.

  8. Really like the Almansa class. They look really sharp.

Also imagine being the German admiral in that battle, with the Spanish ships charging at point blank range. Kinda reminded me of the Battle of Endor in Return of the Jedi.
