Jaw-Dropping American Firepower Turning Targets to Dust

In 2007, during the Iraq War, Staff Sergeant Alberto Marcillo was jolted awake by incoming rocket fire. However, instead of the expected devastation, the new C-RAM Phalanx system intercepted the rockets mid-air, saving countless lives. This marked a turning point in defending against sudden, concealed attacks from mortars and rockets, forever changing US military strategy in hostile territories.

Next, the US Navy is pushing the boundaries of modern warfare with its cutting-edge laser weaponry. During a recent demonstration, the USS Portland used a high-energy laser to incinerate a fast-approaching target. The incident, captured via infrared footage, showed the boat disintegrating under the intense energy beam. These new laser systems could soon be the answer to the drone threats in conflict zones like Yemen.

Following this, the US Navy’s MK-48 torpedoes have proven to be devastatingly effective in multi-target engagements. During the 2018 Rim of the Pacific exercises, one of these powerful torpedoes tore a decommissioned warship in half. The demonstration of such raw power left allies in awe and adversaries on alert, showcasing the destructive potential of America’s evolving submarine arsenal.

Finally, in January 2022, multiple suicide drones targeted Ain Al Asad Air Base in Iraq. The base’s Centurion C-RAM system quickly neutralized the threat, shooting down the drones with pinpoint accuracy. The footage captured the Vulcan cannon and missile system in action, proving that the Centurion is a game-changer in the fight against the growing menace of drone warfare.

Dark Footage showcases the most unbelievable photos and videos from history while telling the stories behind the camera. Featuring military, space, aircraft and real-life historic events caught on tape.

  1. Lasers are just not practical for the same sort of use case as the C-RAM– they require megawatts/MW of power and are rapidly diffused by atmospheric haze, smoke, and rain. Really cool idea, but only somewhat usable when you have an entire ship's electrical system to draw on.

  3. I think the simplest way is being forgotten here. Military weapons are being assumed, but there are very simple means. The improvised explosive device, or IED for short. It can be used to cause a great deal of damage with the simplest of means. So you don't need a mortar or rockets to cause damage.

  4. Jesus. Reading people’s comments who think they have figured out the economics of excess energy capacity in a naval vessel vs the entire military industrial complex necessary to produce $1 million missiles…. Is just disheartening and pathetic. To say that you all are not experts would be a grotesque understatement. You’re ignorant peons. Why don’t you shut up not make comments about stuff you know literally nothing about.

  6. Even if the laser doesn’t have the range, it’ll be perfect for quick close range targeting making the destroyer practically invincible to long medium and close range with it’s variable weapon systems. Another tool in the tool box is always good to have.

  7. The ship, used as a target for the torpedo exercise, was a Neuport Class, LST…
I served on one of them. We hauled the marines to the beach! She was decommissioned in 1993 as well.
The LST I served aboard, caught fire and sank in a Malaysian harbor, after she was purchased by Malaysia, from the US. As far as I know, she still sits at the bottom of that harbor.

  8. Serious question….How is it the US fields the most advanced fighter jets on the face of the earth but that same said aircraft has the shortest range weapons delivery system compared to its counterparts from different nations? Another thing… even our ground based delivery systems like HIMARS/ATACMS are in last place compared to other countries with like a third of the US’s military budget? I’m genuinely looking for help on this issue. THANKS!
