  1. As far as I'm concerned, Jason Isbell is arguably one of the best living songwriters I've ever heard. 24 Frames, Speed Trap Town, If We Were Vampires, and Godamn Lonely Love are masterpieces in terms of lyricism and storytelling

  2. I don't know, Melon. When We Were Close is pretty autobiographical about his relationship with Justin Townes Earle. The drive of that song seems to match the real anger of losing someone to an overdose/addiction that they couldn't pull out of.

  3. It's about time Fantano reviewed Isbell, but you can tell he really doesn't give a flying fuck and is basically just peer pressured into doing this review because Isbell has become unavoidable in his lane. I mean, what's with all the caveats at the beginning of this review?? It literally sounds like Anthony's apologizing for reviewing a straight white male southern artist. Never mind that Isbell has had both The Mountain Goats and the non-binary, yellow-flannel earning, Adeem the Artist, open for him.

(Btw, out of the 3 Isbell DBT albums Anthony could have picked to throw up on screen, WHY did he choose A Blessing and A Curse? That's pure DBT ignorance right there.)

  4. Can you review NewJeans’ 2nd EP “Get Up”? I don’t know if you’re open to reviewing anything Kpop related, but the EP is short, only 12 minutes long. Would really like to hear what you think because you’d be a great unbiased review.

  5. I haven't watched this review yet, but I've listened through the album (as a big Isbell fan), and the tracks I like are: Cast Iron Skillet, When We Were Close, & Save the World. Cast Iron Skillet has got to be the best track on the album, by far.

  6. I doubt my request had anything to do with you covering this, but either way I highly appreciate that you did – Jason Isbell is one of the best singer/songwriters working today in my opinion. This album rules!

  7. Fantano clearly misses the entire point of Jason in the opening speech when he calls him cliche and compares him to Springsteen and Young. Jason has intentionally progressed each album in subversion to country cliche and thoughtless lyrics. His words are powerfully specific, yet tightly relatable to the individual listener. He doesn't mess around with vague themes that pander to commercial audiences, nor does he ever speak of desire for the "commercial" fame Fantano references. If one was to make any comparison at all, they should call the names of Prine and Dylan. However, if one actually listens to Isbell's discography, they find that he really carved his own name into the Americana hardwood, truly beyond comparison.

  9. when we were close is more personal then think you realise .he was friends with Justin Townes Earle, fell out and he died before he could patch up friendship. I feel you should of researched more to give the songs more context

  10. Huge Isbell fan, really really glad that Fantano reviewed this album. I really feel like Miles hits very hard, but I can understand that some might find it a bit too long. Excellent video.
