Jason Campbell: The Next Level

Raider Nation, first and foremost I want to thank you guys that’s been following this channel and the support you guys been giving me it’s been motivating me to make more videos for you, The Nation. You guys are the best! 🏴‍☠️

In honor of Black History Month I wanna take the time to celebrate and pay my respects to one of my FAVORITE Raiders QBs growing up going back to my Sophomore Year in High School. The Next Level, JASON CAMPBELL 💪🏾😤

Jason Campbell was traded from the Washington Redskins to the Raiders in the 2010 Draft for a 4th Round pick after the team acquired Donovan McNabb in the offseason. He was deemed to be a starter at the beginning of the 2010 Season but with no familiarity in a new offensive system in Oakland, Campbell started off unspectacular and was eventually benched in favor of Bruce Gradkowski in Week 2. In Week 5 against the San Diego Chargers, Gradkowski went down with a shoulder injury after taking a hit from Shaun Phillips and was ruled out the game, Campbell would come off the bench late in the first quarter and vastly improved his playing style as he completed 13 of 18 passes for 159 yards and a touchdown in a victory snapping a 13-game losing streak against the Chargers going back to 2003. The next 5 games Campbell played decent as he went 3-2 as a starter before the Raiders turned to Gradkowski again and gave him the nod to return from his injury. Gradkowski would go down once again as he re-injured his throwing shoulder at the end of the game against the Miami Dolphins ending his 2010 campaign. The next following week Campbell would regain his starting job against the San Diego Chargers going 10 for 16, a rushing touchdown, and 1 passing touchdown. From there he would finish his 2010 season 7-5 as a starter and went undefeated in his division but missed the playoffs.

During the 2011 Offseason Al Davis decided to move on from Head Coach Tom Cable and went on to inform Campbell that he was letting him go and even questioned Jason Campbell who does he think could be a great fit, Campbell went on to suggest to Al Davis to give Hue Jackson a Head Coaching opportunity since they both had familiarity with the Offensive System rather than learning a new system, Al Davis being unsure at first but VERY loyal to his players went on to name Hue Jackson the next Head Coach of the Raiders the following season while Jason Campbell was named the starter once again going 4-2 in his first 6 games the 2011 Season. Campbell played so well the Raiders were the verge of giving him a new long term contract that Al Davis was putting together but unfortunately Al Davis would pass away on October 8, 2011 then the following week Jason Campbell would go down with a broken collarbone against the Cleveland Browns ending his 2011 season.

Later on in the year following the death of Al Davis the team would be acquired by his son Mark Davis as he would bring in Reggie McKenzie to become the first Raiders General Manager. McKenzie wanting to do things his way decided to go into rebuild mode, fired Hue Jackson and moved on from Jason Campbell which was a very heartbreaking moment to me as I felt like we had our QB at the time and lost something good. Jason Campbell was The Next Level for the Raiders and was a HUGE miss, a what could of been if he never got injured or released. I don’t know about y’all Raider Nation but Jason Campbell was the real deal at his time and definitely put it down for the Silver and Black he will always be one of my FAVORITE Raiders QB! Let’s give him the respect and credit he deserves for his time with the Nation 🏈

  1. The forgotten Raider QB. Since 1987, only TWO Raiders QB have a winning record in the AFC West…Rich Gannon and Jason Campbell. Since that time, only three QB's have a winning record overall…Jay Schroeder, Rich Gannon…and Jason Campbell. 7-0 against the AFC West. We absolutely win the division in 2011 if he didn't break his collarbone.

  2. Great video. Seems like most of Raider Nation has forgotten Jason Campbell and his time as a Raider. Cant blame them too much as his stint as a Raider was short. Wonder about what might have been had he not been injured. Jacoby Ford,Louis Murphy,Zach Miller,Johnnie Lee Higgins,Marcell Reece,Michael Bush-the team had some firepower. (I have a lot of those guys autographs in my collection. Cant just collect the HOFers and stars. You gotta have the Justin Fargas,Tyrone wheatley,Zach Crockett type guys if you watched them play.)

  3. In this 2010 Season, the Defense was making STOPS and PLAYS, that the Current D, couldn’t even DREAM OF… Also, RECEIVERS were making CATCHES, Today’s O, wasn’t even trying to make. 💯 Sad times, these days. WE BETTER NOT GET RID OF RENFROW, WALLER, ADAMS, OR JACOBS!!!! 😤😤😤😤💯
