Jarrett Stidham & Raiders Impress in Debut Suffer OT Loss to 49ers

Join hosts Scott Gulbransen & Murf from @RaidersFANRadio & Evan Groat of Just Pod Baby as they give you an instant reaction to Jarrett Stidham and his impressive debut for the Las Vegas Raiders in an overtime loss to the San Francisco 49ers. While there are no moral victories in professional sports, the Raiders’ offense looked sharp and more complete with the new QB at the healm. What didn’t change was the team’s struggles on defense. We break it all down

  1. I liked Carr, and felt that he had the ability to take the team to the playoffs, at the beginning of the year. His play during this season was substandard. Not just in light of his salary, but in general as an NFL starting QB. He was much better last year, and throughout the Gruden era. I don't know what happened to him this year, but the lack of accuracy causing low completion rates, and the sheer numbers of interceptions changed my perception. I don't know if he has come to the point where his play is in serious decline, he doesn't like/understand the McDaniels system, or what ever else it may be, but he isn't working out in this system. I don't want to say that his benching was justified, and I do believe it was badly handled, but we weren't going anywhere with Carr this year.

I think that Mack Jones will be the Raiders starting QB next year. He can move around, he was good (good enough to make the Pro Bowl last year) under McDaniels, and it looks like he may be available as New England seems to be in the process of moving away from him. He obviously can work in the McDaniels system, and has done well with it.

  2. You just witnessed a functioning preview of the offensive working like it should . If the Defense had Jones and Denzel the 9ers would not have run buck wild on us . That alone would have changed the game.

  3. Stidham shocked me; wow what an effort. He took some heavy shots and didn't budge in the pocket. a Breath of fresh air! As of now, I dont think he's a starter but he's going to make someone a great backup. He always seems under control with good footwork. Encouraging

  4. It isn't WHAT they did to Carr. It was definitely time to move on or at least, bring in some new blood. But HOW they did it?

"Once a Raider Always a Raider" used to mean something. This reeks of how Marcus Allen was done dirty.

"Grab your stuff and hit the bricks" has never been the Raider way. It's something Jerry Jones would do or any other greedy franchise.

It ain't us, and I'm not cool with it. At least let him suit up and be on the dang sidelines. Carr has ALWAYS been a Raider.

  5. Not many teams will put up 500 yards on the niners. Can't help but be impressed with JS as this was a real test for your first start in the NFL. Sad that we lost however feared we would get battered.
Good game and, once again, unlucky to lose.

  6. Talking sense.
Running for your life from your pocket gets pretty old.
Now teams will herd him into massive danger.
Unless your name is Lamar you can’t win using half a field.
I like the kid but this blocking scheme has to change or the players have to change.

  7. Stidham came out on the field and showed balls of steel, enough for the 1st game…I expect him to show wisdom against the Chiefs, after the season he is a free agent & Jets can sign him
