January 6 defendants celebrate, reunite with families following pardons at DC Jail

Several January 6 defendants being held pre-trial were released on Tuesday from the Washington DC Jail after President Trump issued them a pardon. The men, and one woman, met with their families and supporters outside.

Rachel Powell, who was serving a 57 month sentence when she was pardoned, told the media she feels “so blessed” for the support she’d received.

January 6 defendant and Proud Boy Tom Vournad, who had pled guilty but was pending sentencing, was released from the DC Jail and received by other Proud Boys, who attempted to block media from filming him, with one yelling “Canada’s next! Proud Boys are coming for Canada!”

“You’ve done what no man could do, President Trump,” said Jake Lang, who had been held pre-trial since 2021. “The bullet that missed your head was a bullet that missed my head Mr President. That could have been 15 years of my life, and 15 years of these men’s lives over here that just came out of the prison cell with me.”

He hugged his father, Ned Lang, who has defended and advocated for his son in several events prior to his release.

Jonathan Pollock hugged his father and supporters and confirmed that the DC Jail staff drove the released men around the corner rather than allowing them to walk directly out of the jail.

“Very excited to feel the fresh air again,” Pollock said. “It’s a miracle we got this far.”

Greg Purdy, who had been convicted of assaulting police officers and was pardoned by Trump, says that the “Freedom Corner” movement expressing their support while he was locked up are “patriots.”

“The Freedom Corner is a family to me,” Purdy said. “It’s about love.”

Dominic Box, who remains inside the DC Jail, called in to the event. Attendees continued to commit their support to him.

  2. Does anyone wonder why Trump didn't pardon while he was still president, before leaving office on January 20, 2021, President Donald Trump had the constitutional authority to pardon individuals involved in the January 6 Capitol riot, even if they had not yet been charged or convicted. The presidential pardon power is extensive and allows for pardons to be issued at any time after the commission of a federal offense. However, President Trump did not exercise this authority to pardon any individuals connected to the Capitol riot before his term ended.

  3. Yes, on January 21, 2025, President Donald Trump granted a full and unconditional pardon to Ross Ulbricht, the founder of the Silk Road dark web marketplace. Ulbricht had been serving two life sentences plus 40 years for his role in operating the online platform, which facilitated the sale of illegal drugs and other illicit goods.

  9. I’m concerned about that second person who proclaimed to be a Proud Boy and shouted “Canada’s ours!” And flipping the finger. What was that all about?? That’s not a good look and I’m sure the far left is gonna run with that to try and show how unhinged the J6 people are (even though they aren’t).
