Hodges, who is legally blind, was walking home when he was arrested. He is now calling for an investigation into the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.

  1. Imagine the people enforcing laws being well vetted and then well trained . A nation isn't free if people, regardless of color, are being illegally detained, illegally arrested or extrajudicially killed by government agents.

  2. So we have 2 Deputies who openly admit on video that they are committing crimes. We have a Sheriff who is attempting to sweep the crimes under the rug. And we have a County Board that has done nothing to address either of the above acts.
It sounds like corruption is normal business in this county. Once the dust clears I can easily see both officers fired and charged with crimes, the Sheriff removed from office and the entire County administrative level under investigation.

  3. Sorry, but complaints do nothing. just like the attorney said. The chief turned around like he had not heard this before. They do that so frequently and turn a blind eye to what they do wrong. The police look out for each other. The lawsuits mean nothing as well; they do not pay them, so it does not affect them. The taxpayers are the ones who pay the lawsuits.

  4. I hate that this happened but I'm so glad this video came across my phone screen today. I am saying here and now, I will do better every single day to make sure I'm doing my part to prevent this type of stuff from happening. I know I am one human being and realistically, my changes and help will do little to fix this issue. But if many of us do our part on the daily, change surely will happen. I am motivated and ready for change! I can't stand seeing our black community treated like shit for no reason!! No reason other than the color of their damn skin. I can't stand seeing our disabled community treated like shit, just because they can not fight and stand up for themselves. Change is on the horizon and I'm ready to do my part.

  5. Please check out Ithaca, NY for their process of hiring officers in their community. Phycological tests to start. Police are the ones defunding their community by breaking the law through Federal lawsuits to clean up their mess. Proper training is SO much cheaper.

  6. The police should have concluded the contact upon verifying the blind/walking cane which dispelled their initial suspicions of an unlawfully-carried firearm. But tell the truth, Mr. Philips; your client is a so-called "First Amendment auditor" with a predisposition to assuming every police encounter is going to be unconstitutional and unprofessional. Blind Uncle Fiddlesticks would have been on his way, but when you have the RIGHT to remain silent, you don't always have the ABILITY…he talked himself back into custody as they were in the process of releasing him.

  7. Columbia County Sheriff needs to be fired. It is very evident that these deputies behave in an illegal manner routinely. The sheriff department needs to clean house of all the sheriff's that do not honor the US Constitution. I am so upset about these tyrants behaving so poorly. The change that needs to happen is the sheriffs office needs to be punished severely.

  9. How about if we started to put someone like an overseer in the Trump case into these "investigations"? Someone with knowledge and proven ability to enforce our constitutional rights? With the integrity and societal standing to do so? That or a three person panel consisting of a citizen advocate, a prosecutor and a defense attorney? Share your thoughts. I want effective solutions now. Not two hundred years from now.

  10. How many black complaints have there been before this became a thing. No HUMAN BEING should be disrespected and mistreated by law enforcement that is paid salary by us to serve and protect. Law enforcement is defunding their self by having to pay out law suits. Instead of using that money to retrain rehire and add metal health workers. Hmm makes me think something in the milk stinks.

  11. I've been saying this for nearly 20 years, and today it speaks in volumes, END qualified immunity for police officers and this type of behavior will end, all qualified immunity does is allow tyrant and corrupt police officers to be Tyrant and corrupt, PERIOD !
