  1. I haven't seen anybody say it, but every Digimon game was called Digimon World in the West because of brand synergy. Digimon World DS was the first game in the Digimon Story series in Japan, but in the West, it was called Digimon World DS because every game in the series, up to that point, was still called Digimon World in Japan, and Bandai Namco thought "The Digimon World games have all been vastly different so far, it'll be easier to just keep the branding the same."

  2. Been a Digimon Videogame fan for 20 yearsish, played through Digimon Story and Digimon World Titles on the PSX, DS, PSP and PS4. Digimon World 3 was my entry point and is probably the best balance of charming and simple enough to entice newcomers with gameplay and RPG Elements. Having Three base starters and 6 additional optional base Digimon you can recruit makes the game more easily understood than grappling with hundreds or thousands of Digimon locked through systems of Breeding, Scanning or Digivolution. My two cents worth.

  3. I kinda like having 2 different types of 'main series' games when it comes to digimon with the world and story games. They screwed up the english names with the DS games but aside from that I think they could make the two categories work in parallel. It'd help if there was a site for digimon games thought that listed and categorized the games so the info is easier for people to find.

  4. I cannot talk for anyone else, but for me I quit with the franchise after Digimon World 2003. I did try games after it, but I felt that it wasn't what I was expecting from the series and created for me, and it went further from my expectations so much that I eventually stopped caring for new sequels. In my opinion, the World series are indeed what was Digimon and that is what I will always recommend to anyone trying to get into the series, but this can be the total opposite for anyone else.
I would say, start where you think is best for you, and have fun. Don't care so much about what other people think about your tastes, all that does is drag you into this pool of doubtness, just grab a game you might like, play it for awhile and if it's not your thing, you'll eventually find something that does.

  5. My only nitpick with them declaring a main series is that it couldn't be World(Because they are not consistent with eachother) and so would result in a fandom that remains open just tearing itself apart. Just look at the Star Wars franchise ever since Disney declared most of the really cool stuff "not canon".

  6. Cybersleuth is a fun one. It reignited my love for it. I mean, i get to (painfully) slowly work myself to get my childhood favourite Omegamon, only yo realise he is garbo in the game so i start to love other Digimon instead like Alphamon.

  7. Here's where we just get a bunch of youtubers who play a singular franchise of taming game like pokemon, digimon, temtem or heck smt(it counts in my opinion) and get them to play Jade Cocoon 1 or 2(personal choice would be 2) and see how each person from each franchise reacts just as a bit of fun haha.
Plus anytime I can boost general knowledge of the Jade Cocoon franchise I will lol

  8. Cyber Sleuth sucks. I was afraid to buy Hacker's Memory because of it, but Hacker's Memory was a masterpiece. Hacker's Memory is Masato Kato or Sakaguchi level of writing. Cyber Sleuth is empty and boring and lonely. That's probably why it was removed from PSN.

  9. Cybersleuth's translation, no option to skip cutscenes and fast forward through dialogue, and the aptitude requirement for digimon to evolve made me want to cringe. I personally felt like i was being shackled and restricted from how I wanted to play the game.

  10. She does raise some good points… But she also made a few big mistakes. Though those weren't entirely her fault. She honestly just… Played the game very poorly and didn't even know how to get new mons. So it really feels like she rushed through the game from beginning to end, rather than actually try to enjoy it as she claims. Also, her reasoning for not picking cyber sleuth despite everyone agreeing that it's a good starting point was… I dunno… Kinda dumb. Though I will say, it's also the fandom's fault for recommending dawn over world DS, which is way more beginner friendly and honestly a better overall game

  11. Great video! As a Monster Rancher and Pokemon fan i actually tried to get into the Digimon games with Digimon Dusk, but it was too overwhelming for me. I watched the anime, have the merch, but just couldn't wrap my head around the game. I think the issue might have been not being in control of the pacing like MR and Pokemon. In those games, the player decides what to do, when to do it, and when they're ready to move forward. In Digimon Dusk there's so much being explained so rapid fire that I don't really absorb any of it and end up not having any idea what to do. I'm glad you made this video, though, it makes me want to give the games another shot!

  12. The thing about Digimon game, in comparison to other monster collecting, raising, battling game like Pokemon and Monster Rancher, are how Digimon game always have different style on almost every game title. While Pokemon and Monster Rancher usually only stick to one style of gameplay with a little change or addition here and there, Digimon have a lot more variety on its gameplay, from monster raising, dungeon crawler, turn based rpg, real time strategy, card battle, 1 vs 1 brawler, multiplayer brawler, mmorpg, etc. Heck, even the anime series have different feel and tone from one another. The Digimon franchise always experimenting different gameplay on almost every game they have and you can clearly see that with how each game have a ”big" flaw here and there, if i may say so. Maybe that's why it's kinda hard to recommend what Digimon game is good for newcomer

  13. For everyone who wants to enter the digimon games this goes my opinion

digimon story cybersleuth (specially the hackers memory) and "digimon world 2003" are the best 2 for a person who likes pokemon. The 2003 one is awesome, I love that game, but yeah, its got a lot of backtrackin, but its really a good good, and the cybersleuth is a way modern game, very enjoyable but it has a lot o text. As a Digimon world game, the "world next order" is the best digimon world game ( I know world 2003 is a world game but, its completely different. The 2003 one is more like a story cybersleuth. And if you are willing to play a novel game, the new game is awesome "digimon survive".

So here are a list of digimon games you should check if you want play digimon games.

1- any of the digimon story cybersleuth, its has a lot to do, good characters, good soundtrack, a fuckin lot of digimon to train.

2- digimon world 2003 ( its my favorite digimon game. But its a old game, but still very enjoyable, the only thing that may be a bummer its the backtracking, doesn't have a fast travel, and no repel. But for me its the best Digimon game overall for a pokemon fan.

Awesome soundtrack, the world is awesome, the ideia is super cool, the hole concept of the game is very inspiring. Doesn't have a lot of digimon to catch , but, a good amount of digivolution variations.

3- Digimon world next order its the best if you want to experience the most of digimo World game, its very similar with the first game, but better in every way.

4- and yeah survive its the best monster taming story ever, but its a novel game so, it can be a huge red flag for a lot of people.

  14. I think it doesn't help that Jaiden, who was looking to get into the franchise but ALSO make content out of her experience, doesn't have exactly the same needs/goals as somebody just looking to play. She turns down Cyber Sleuth, despite admitting she thinks she'd enjoy it on her own time, because it wouldn't make a good video (arguable, but probably fair). I truly think Digimon World (or Next 0rder or Re:Digitize or whatever, would work best for her videos, but how does that mesh with her preferred style of gameplay? Complicates things.

Overally totally agree with the points you both made though

  15. Yeah as a digimon fan for as long i have been born so 20 years its really hard so identity whats a "good" digimon game i feel its definitely fair what jayden said and about the "digimon needs a mainline game" is so true while world def is like the cloest we have because like karn said digimon always started as tomogachi game i feel the story series also should be a main line while they improve on it because i love both but they need to cut down on the grind thoses game had since legit world 1 in the ps1 days

  16. Digimon Anime > Pokemon Anime. I'm a huge fan of both however as an adult and I can understand the story better I feel like the Digimon Stories are more fleshed out, also it is so cool Seeing Taichi (Tai) grow up and bond with Agumon over the years. For Games, I love Pokemon slightly more but wished they had had more spinoffs or tried more things. I love Pokemon, Pokemon Colleseum, and I wish we had a mainline entry evolve into something else. I love Digimon games but I would also like them to calm it down and give us stuff that works, How about a Digimon World 1 remake or Sequel since I enjoyed the raising aspect.

  17. Tbh I feel like the issue here is that a lot more people LIKE digimon Dawn and Dusk… But digimon world DS is objectively the better DS game for beginners. Your viewpoint character is someone who starts out as "woah what's a digimon", the story is a lot more straightforward and honestly seems written like it's for newcomers, and iirc you do not need to do sidequests to progress the main story. It lacks some QoL that D/D gas but still. I don't really recall if it has the same grind issues as D/D but tbh it seemed easier when I was a kid. Obviously Cyber Sleuth is the best RPG right now, I'm just saying that world DS is very clearly a game geared towards beginners.

  18. I got into Digimon through the anime but my first Digimon game was on the PS2 I don’t remember what its name was but I remember it was involving the data squad cast of characters it was an ok game then besides that one the other three were on the Nintendo DS I don’t know who the first one what it was called but then it was done and dusk in front of the last Digimon game that I played was cyber sleuth😁👍

  19. I think the cyber sleuth is the best way to get into digimon. Yeah it’s story heavy but it’s not lore heavy so you don’t need to have played or know anything about digimon to just jump in and play this rpg. You can collect and use whatever you want because there are so many options and you continue to unlock more as you play. There really isn’t a grind unless you want to either

  20. I had the same issue getting into Digimon. Cyber Slueth was a great starting game.
Still wish there was a modern Digimon RPG that played like cyber slueth, but took place in the digiworld. I would play digimon world, but I don't want to deal with literal shit.

  21. To be honest, digimon already has a mainline game series… well, technically 2. You got World and Story, and you got the other stuff. There is more focus than, say, 15-20 years ago (The first 4 world games are all different genres).

It's just that, unlike Pokemon, there isn't a new Digimon game or 2 per year, and as such there's fewer choices, especially with the number of titles with either/or/both questionable quality and difficulty in playing.

So one needs to temper expectations and realize Digimon isn't the constant stream of content like Pokemon, even if it can be argued that Digimon's output exceeds those in the same market.

  22. I can't fully agree with Cyber Sleuth being the guaranteed easiest way to get into digimon games. Yes, it's simple enough I suppose but the battle mechanics are rather bland. Specifically the moves you can move over after digivolving are all generic template attacks where the only difference between them is the element and associated status effect. I think from a pokemon player's viewpoint (casually competitive), there is no variety in the moves unless they are signature moves and it is quite demotivating once you notice that. There's no experimentation needed because just about everything does roughly the same thing. Just grab any version of the strongest multi-panel attack and you're good to go. That was somewhat acceptable in Dawn/Dusk but it doesn't sit right with me that that's the case in Cyber Sleuth.

If there's one game I'd suggest and want a re-release of, that would be Digimon Savers: Another Mission/ Digimon Data Squad. I had a blast playing that game. I never really saw Savers/Data Squad all the way through but it didn't matter because the game was easy enough to understand (and I was playing the jp version with my very basic japanese). Also, as far as I could tell, the moves for all the digimon were their signature moves mainly so every attack was unique and motivated me to see their animations out of curiosity. That also helped motivate me to get the different evolutions. Speaking of which, you could also digivolve mid-battle (I can't recall another game that had this mechanic) and that really saved my bacon a few times.

Jaiden definitely had good points but the "i need content" mindset kinda got in the way of her first attempt so definitely a thing to consider/take note of for her next attempt, if ever.

  23. You do make a lot of good points. Originally I got into Digimon thanks to the anime as the gateway but the games themselves have been experimental to very different from one another with a real Beginner's Entry point so to speak. Personally I love recommending Cyber Sleuth games as an entry point for those who like the JRPG aspect, and CAUTION the World series as Tamagotchi games for those who want the full Digimon experience. I really do agree that Digimon should establish a "Beginner game" for those who wish to expirience the fandom and make it clear what digimon are and how things work in the Digital Realm aspect and how Digimon came to be.

  24. The thing about which one is the Main Branch, World or Story, is that they are both a Main Branch.
The current director of the videogame division ahs said taht he wantes to have 2 main branches, World and Story, so there is 2 main types of gameplay for differnt sectors of the fandom.
He knows that the fandom is divided in it's tastes, so he simply embraced it XD.

  25. your point about having a main series, is not understanding Bandai, Look at tales of even these game rarely stay the same with each iteration, bandai is more like SEGA when it come to their game if it disappoint they abandons it , and they themselve in many interview will tell you, that both Digimon story and Digimon world are their mainline game, they will sometime have a few games outside of these two, but generally digimon story is more experimental while Digimon world is more on a ''Safety net'' but just like Sega which will butcher their games and studio so does Bandai, there a really sad fact that they made Pokken which has great animation, and yet lack any of that level of care for their own franchisees. being a digimon fan is like being a sonic fan, its hoping that the game doesn't get bellow 70/100 score because other wise goodbye any chance of further story or anything good comming in a long while.
