Jacques François Antoine Marie Ibert (15 August 1890 – 5 February 1962) was a French composer of classical music. Having studied music from an early age, he studied at the Paris Conservatoire and won its top prize, the Prix de Rome at his first attempt, despite studies interrupted by his service in World War I.

Bacchanale (1956)
Dedication: for the BBC on the tenth anniversary of the Third Programme
City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra conducted by Louis Frémaux
The BBC commissioned Jacques Ibert to write this piece in 1956 to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Third Programme, its classical radio station that evolved into Radio 3.
It was written in Rome, Italy, and premiered by maestro Eugene Goossens, with the composer in attendance, in London, England.
The work has invited comparisons to George Gershwin, Arthur Honegger, Aram Khachaturian, and Sergei Prokofiev. Its muscular orchestration and relentless momentum make it an option for orchestras to open their concerts with, as the London Philharmonic did at Royal Albert Hall in September 2009.
It has been performed by the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Ferrum Helveticum, the French National Radio Orchestra, the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, the Louisville Orchestra, Orchestre des Concerts Lamoureux, Orchestre symphonique de Montreal, and Philharmonisches Staatsorchester.

Why does the title card say 1958 (MCMLVIII)?
[Crank up the Volume!]
Yeah I almost went deaf 🤣
Gershwin if he was born in France during the revolution
It’s a shame this isn’t performed more. I can’t find any videos of a live performs e. Such a fun, Scott Bradley/Gershwin-esque piece!
What is this Stravinski?
Wow, instantly fell in love with this. Everything you’ve been sharing has been a real treasure trove. Thank you for helping me discover some wonderful new (to me) music.
