  36. Greetings, On the eve of Jesus’s passion and death. Jesus prays aloud in the presence of His friends. He knows that His words will give them confidence and fill them with joy.He will soon leave this world but they will remain in it and life will not always be kind to them.Jesus begs that they may be consecrated in the truth, that His Father will make them holy, enabling them to live lives that reflect all that they have learned in and through Jesus.

    Finally, just as Jesus was sent by the Father, so they in their turn are sent by Jesus as His missionaries.

    Friends, Jesus spoke of sharing His own joy with His friends. If we read His prayer slowly and thoughtfully, as though it were prayed specifically for ourselves, we too will experience not only the challenge but hope and deep-down joy.
