IXION | EP.12 – PRECARIOUS POSITIONS (NEW Sci-Fi Survival City Builder Let's Play)

IXION puts us in charge of Tiqqun Station – humanity’s last hope for finding a safe haven among the stars where the species can live on and prosper. With its overbearing and dark atmosphere, where humankind itself is on the brink of extinction, IXION feels like Frostpunk in Space in many ways – maintaining the peoples’ trust and keeping them fed, happy, healthy, and working are all crucial aspects of the survival colony management elements of the game. At the same time, we’ll seek to maintain the operational capacities of our space station, research new technologies, perform upgrades, and organize the multiple sectors of the station to specialize and work in tandem with each other.

  1. The negative stability is genuinely something you don't need to worry about, by end game I had +5 to +10 in all sectors because I had nothing better to do. The game needs a rebalance in some areas, I find it interesting that most people are complaining that the game is too hard or too easy with very little in-between.

  2. Your gut instinct keeps screaming don’t meet the Elders so you probably shouldn’t. Or it’s no big deal. Depends on whether it locks out the other option and whether that other option is worth the resources

  3. Definitely hear what the elders have to say, but regarding your questions about "Dismantling EVA Airlocks" no lol. Each Sector require an EVA Airlock, doesn't it? So why even ask that question to dismantle it to assemble another one? Health Center & Train Stations should be something to prioritize research.

Also, yeah put 2 infirmaries down as well as 2 mess halls, and put more homes down. Those should be the top priorities lol.

Maybe one sector could be utilized as a hospital, and possibly the main Cyro-pod center.

Have Quicksilver bring back Ice, it's not doing anything lol.

  4. absolutely meet the elders! I think scary events and eventual failures, cult situations, diseases etc. are big part of the game and avoiding them for smooth gameplay may cost you (and us) the most interesting parts of the story!

  5. I don't know if mining and taking material have different priority system or not. But you made the ice on protagoras a priority when you want go mine ice. So i believe your cargo ship think it's a priority to take too. Rather than the ones that's closer to the tiqqun.

  6. I think you should use priorities more as there is now a cargo ship that isn't doing anything, and if you're worried about it ships only start collecting a lower priority cargo once a higher priority has been COMPLETLY emptied out

  7. That broken section of road by your second steel mill has been driving me nuts for several episodes, please fix it!

    Meet the elders please.

The sheer number of resources you need to spend restoring the Protagoras is likely a clue as to what things will look like going forward. You are in a really bad way wrt iron/alloys and carbon/polymers. You're struggling to find a balance between making alloys and building and sending resources elsewhere. Hopefully by the time you collect all the cryopods and leave the system you'll have a much healthier resource economy.

Also I wonder if setting medium/low priorities for every cargo ship would be useful for you, so that they're always busy. It seems to me that if they don't have priorities set then they don't do anything. Likewise if they have multiple equal priorities they will take the closest resources, which is why the Koala has only been picking up cryopods and not colonists.

Are there any upgrades to the mess hall about feeding more people, so you won't need a second one and can save the alloys?

  8. The first thing you should research is tech lab upgrades. They are so crucial and such a huge bump in science.
Also you can make a sector dedicated to cryonic centre where you put the policy of only workers to be awaken. You can also store cryonic pods there and not take stability hits in other sectors.

  9. Meanwhile on the Cargoship Quicksilver:

-"Maybe we should go and be diligent and assign a task for ourselves?"

-"No rookie, they wanted up to pickup these minerals, so this is what we'll do."

    -"We are playing cards capt'n."

-"Just following orders rookie… Just following orders."

/One of your cargoship is idle for most of the episode 😂

  10. I definitely want to see what the elders have to say. Maybe finally someone will actually have info on what happened when the Tiqqun was "away."
I second the suggestion to get some tech lab upgrades to speed up science prod, but also maybe consider upgrading the EVA airlock or the Tiqqun itself to make the maintenance a little more stable and be prepared for the damage of the ice field.

  11. 1.) Check to see if there are any research to be done for the Steel Mill. If it improves production, it's worth it. 2.) Talk to the Elders, "It's not the End of the World." 3.) Trains for the next major research. 4.) I don't believe you are collecting any Silicon and you need that for the electronics. 5.) You have an empty Docking Bay in Sector 3 build another Cargo Ship. 6.) You may want to consider opening Sector 4 with all the new people and make that another dedicated Food Sector. Also, I think you can place a major row of Crop farms in your typical center section.

  12. – Cargo ships. MOAR cargo ships. They don't use anything to exist other than the docking bay slot which you have aplenty sitting empty.
    – Ship priorities. Set lower priorities for other things to mine, to transport, so they don't just sit on their arse when the main priority runs out.
    – Science upgrade. It's probably too late now to research everything needed for the 5/3 cycles, but I think you still have the 5/5 cycles upgrade there available for … 35? 40?

  13. Oh, focus a bit on the waste processing. Just one of those would help you a lot with alloys and you have everything for it now, including the bit of extra morale.
Later on a waste specialised sector is the bees knees. For real. You'll certainly have the people to open up a new one momentarily.
