  1. '' Children should be seen and not heard '' ! That old saying should apply to Gina sometimes when she rattles off gabbing and not saying anything worthwhile and usually repeating something that Al has already said !!

  2. Don't you all recall that there was a section on one side of the building where Al did NOT run any of the PEX lines for the underfloor heating because that's the way he planned and wanted it to be so !!

  3. On your tool crib, I would do 2 custom swing doors. Boarded on the outside only and inbuilt shelfs in it to store nails and bolts saving space. Al you would have to put a wheel under the doors to help support the weight of the bolts and nails.
Also another idea is to put your shipping container on the back side of the work shop and cutting a door way in the side of the container and the tool crib for extra storage or making that your tool crib. Yes it would mean extending your pad so you can still drive around the work shop.
Been watching from afar the awesome progress you and Gina are making to the property.

  4. With a nice installed decking above those framed in areas that gives you a nice Storage area up above over those framed in rooms ! And that's one thing one has to have and that's storage space !

  5. Are you folks planning on selling when you no longer can work the land? Seems like a lot of physical work; the kind you won't be able to do after say 70 or so. I had to quit the heavy work at 75, but I have three sons who are doing the physical stuff for me now.

  6. Oh my goodness Al… 6C there already!!! It's September 2nd in Newfoundland Canada, and we have 16C/60.8F this morning, forecast of 27C/80.6F today.
Of all the homesteaders I follow, your climate and growing zones seems closest to mine. We have been getting seasonably warmer with climate change, but you can still feel that autumn chill setting in.

  7. I will say this Al I totally disagree with you on keeping the machinery under a rough, and keeps the weather and a son from fading the paint much more protected, but it is your equipment and you decide what you want to do with it I'm just stating if I had a tractor like that that would be part right in my new beautiful barn. 🙂 And in the winter time it would not have a ton of snow on it. I would at least put a lien roof on the side of the building to at least keep some of the weather off of the tractor. But like I say it is your building and it is a beautiful building, this homestead you're putting together that is most off grid living that I am impressed with mostly. It is also because of all the high-tech things you have installed, showing me you can live the same kind of lifestyle off grid as you are living on the grid. Love all your videos and I think you are doing such a awesome job, you your wife and your daughter have a great day and take care of yourselves

  8. Al you are so wrong about not storing your equipment in a workshop or storage shed. Farmers aTrippyFarmer, The Millenial Farmer, and the Welkers Farms in MT are keeping millions of dollars of equipment stored in very large workshops and storage sheds. It keeps their equipment in much better shape than outdoor storage, protecting their investments. I don't have any of my equipment kept outside and I live in AZ. My issue is heat and UV rays. Yours is very cold and wet. And no ramps into the workshop pouring the concrete was a big omission.

  10. Al, unless you are enclosing the walls you will need to run either MC cable or EMT. I would use 3/4” EMT myself as it allows you to add for the future. Also, install 2 futures that you can access.
