There were a bunch of underwater horror/sci-fi movies made in the late 80s…most people remember The Abyss, but Leviathan is arguably my favorite. This one rips off Aliens and The Thing, features some great Stan Winston effects, and has an excellent cast that features Peter Weller, Ernie Hudson, Hector Elizondo, Richard Crenna, and more!

Remember when Geraldo got smashed in the face, christ Im almost as old.
Congratulations, you’ve finally made a reference that I don’t get(something about two sisters or something,I can’t remember the exact reference).Anyway,I Love this movie,so thanks,as always, for covering it in such an entertaining way.
Just when you probably thought you’d heard of and/or covered all The Thing ripoffs,I’m gonna hit you with one I never hear mentioned:Proteus. It’s directed by Biob Keen, and co-written by the man who wrote one of my favorite low-budget weirdness,Carnosaur. If these facts don’t pique your interest then I don’t know what to do.
Hell yeah Mikey! This is one of my childhood favs!!👍👍
Hey mike thanks for recommending deepstar six and deep rising in the comments i thoroughly enjoyed deep rising more good sea monster flick
When are you gonna do Tombstone just because it’s so f*ckin badass
King: What have we got today, JR? I'm ready for anything?
JR: Today, we've got an Italian Alien rip-off set underwater. And the Alien turns into the Thing.
King: Sounds like a blast!
JR: Oh, there are definitely some of those!
King: Hey, this is great! The sequel to Buckaroo Banzai that we always needed but never got!
JR: More like Robocop vs. the Alien Thing, but I'll let you have this one, King.
Lisa Eilbacher is smokin hot in 10 To Midnight.
Man, I had a thing for Amanda Pays back then.
This and Deep Star Six was really fun movies.<<< I think it was Deep Star Six I was so young and seen it only 3 or 4 times. Its the one I think there on a oil rig and pull up those Barnicle like clusters of eggs.
Of course they have a flamethrower. It's standard issue in all scientific/industrial facilities.
I get this string of underwater monster movies confused – but I love them all!! Love that multiple killer sharks just happened to be there with a creature that apparently can surface immediately from a great depth without any consequences (cue sad dead blob fish). Even Godzilla took his time, and scared off any man eating fish! Just great, silly but I adore it (and the abyss, deep star rising, sphere etc). Thanks, Mike, I’m thinking of doing a movie night with this, plus Underwater now. Time for a rewatch!
This has always been a favorite of mine no matter what anyone says about it
Wow, totally awesome review of Leviathan. I really like the mvie and it's like it got a All-Star cast, Amanda Pays is one hot chick. Great video!
Does this movie have sea legs or is it all wet?
But how do they eat and breathe 160000 feet…never mind its just a show. I should really just relax.
Nobody knows nothing about Capone unless they want cement shoes.
It's Amanda Pays. Its a tenticle monster and its happy to see her.
I love me some good underwater horror with practical effects.
I'll definitely be checking this one out at some point.
Amanda Pays sold me on this!
10:30 Wow, it's like they didn't realize that Parker bitching about his contract in Alien was just a cute character quirk, not something that needs to be a focal point in the script.
Why havent I watched this one? It has everything(and everybody) in it that I love to see. Or I watched it 30 years ago and wasnt that impressed because ALIEN and THE THING are better. I need to watch(or rewatch) it.
Loving the channel still 😁 Have you thought about reviewing Intruder 1989?
This movie is definitely a classic horror sci-fi film that always deserves a good viewing great video Mike
SyFy in its early days once called this “The Biggest Alien Rip-Off of All Time!” right before it aired. Lol
This is a great underwater horror flick. Great cast, great effects and great music by the legendary Jerry Goldsmith👌 love it🤗
I remember watching this one on TV as a kid.
Loved it, and Weller punching Foster was hilarious and satisfying.
An eternal hell stuck on a submarine with only LJN titles!!!!
Random Science Numbers 😂🤣
I was really excited to watch this one as I loved Leviathan when I was a kid. At least I thought I did. Turns out I never watched it, and a bit of googling confirms the film I thought was Leviathan was in fact Deepstar Six.
Ah well.
"Random science numbers" – made my day, Mike! 🎉
Easily my favorite of the underwater horror movies that released in that timeframe.
Don't forget the excellent Jerry Goldsmith score, later plagiarized for a video game.
Starting to wonder what the worst establishing shot ever is?
Now deep star 6 next!
The Al Capone's vault and Geraldo Rivera bit made me think more of the song Homer Simpson was trying to write until he wrote the Baby On Board song (which is obvious that's where the reference came from, but I didn't know that until now)
The director made also 2 good WW2 movies: Escape to Athena and Massacre in Rome from 1974.
Lisa Eilbacher 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
Ok so if I was alive during the time this movie came out but I didn't see it does that still make me old? Ahahaha
Holy hell, I miss practical effects.
The "Hell Yeah" thing is really getting stale and downright irritating. Please come up with something new.
Leviathan is my favorite underwater horror movie of all time.
A very under appreciated movie along with Deep Star 6
Love Leviathan ❤❤
18:14 who the fuck is standing at the top of the shot? The girl is wearing a black shirt so that’s not her or a member of the cast 😂 what a pile of shit
Leviathan is one of my favorite underwater movies alongside Deep Star Six and Underwater.
Holy shiznit! It’s robo-historian!
This channel is excellent, thank you Mike.
Death by tainted vodka? I knew it. Communist Plot. But serious, the Bioshock dudes could swear to my face they have never seen then and I wouldn't believe them.
This was a classic 80s Movie.
"Down goes Daniel Stern"! Can I get a Hell Yeah my peeps? 😂
