This’ll be the last time we discuss the performance outside of my review that I’m working on, and basically this boils down to the cope that I’ve seen present when it comes to blaming all the performance issues of the game on the Nintendo Switch, meanwhile games like DQ11, SMT5, MHS2, etc run much better. Mind you the switch does have trash specs, but it is not the only reason.

[comment based on the title because I didn't watch the video]
They rush the games to get them to sell and don't optimize. I no longer purchase Pokemon games due to this fact. Other games are more extensive in what you can do in them, graphics requirements are higher, etc.. and because they are more optimized to run on the hardware, thus run much better and overall have less issues.
Only idiots blame the hardware as I said on before on other channels I listen to both sides. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are less optimized heck Monster Hunter Stories 2 runs well and plays well. Not really a Xenoblade Chronicles Fan but man the Trilogy of Xenoblade Chronicles even runs well again it's not the hardware's fault quit blaming the Switch itself.
I get it. You lost me on 6th gen and on was poorly optimized. I dont think 6 amd 7 were poor, but 8 was very poor when connected to the internet. I love this game and older games so the graphics arent too concerning for me, but i can admit the game doesnt look the best with a lot of black spotting, fps drops, and other glitches. It doesnt stop my experience either way what people say. Think people should fo iɔus complaints on performance over graphics
I just want the game to be the best it could be and they whiffed on that. Also, I think we forget that some comments are probably from kids so it’s important to remember that some of those comments are from emotionally immature people and that’s okay.
I'd still count games like BOTW and Xenoblade as fair criticism, after all, having a bunch of unique monster designs isn't what gonna affect the performance, but what the game has to load on screen. And Pokémon can't load anywhere near the amount of stuff these two can without the framerate dropping.
Not to mention that Scarlet and Violet don't even look as good as the other Pokémon games on Switch, which by the way were much more stable.
Honestly I don't really care about the laggy performance issues because it's not a action game or like an FPS or something where every second counts kinda thing. Do I wish it wasn't laggy? Yeah obviously lol.
What mainly bothers me about the game is the endgame which doesn't exist. Part of the end game fun of sword and shield was going for the G-max pokemon but there isn't like a T-max or anything like that. 6* raids are pointless because they are the same exact pokemon from 4* or 5* with a couple more perfect IVs that don't matter cuz I can just hyper train any stat. I don't know I just feel like there needs to be something special to chase in raids other than a different tera type.
i agree with all your points you put in the video, the one major issue i noticed is that when you beat the game and glance at the credits the technical side of the team that worked on the game was so small compared to the art/modeling&animation side. it seems like they tried and focused more on one thing than another which eventually bit them back. i don't know who thought it was a good idea that having such a small team on the technical side was a good idea because all of these problems arose from it.
i enjoyed the games don't get me wrong its had a really compelling story since black and white and running around the game is fun and all., but the bugs are not something people should ignore.
Me waiting for the tea to start in the comments 🍿🕵️♀️
I don't think gamefreak are good at making console games. Even Little Town Hero wasn't very good on a technical level. Sadly I don't see how this will ever change. They're never gonna give up making these games since they're part of the pokemon company and you have to assume they make the majority of their money on these games.
You have too much faith in humanity. Everyone is like this a good place to see it is Twitter lol
They don't release alphas to the public for testing, that's the main issue that could help big time. especially open world games are the most prone to bugs imo. testing/bug fixing in general is difficult during cases where the user/player does something random or presses random buttons and activates something lol, its all a tedious process but software patches are there to help with that
The Switch's "outdated" specs is still pretty decent for an old device that can be run on battery power in handheld mode without setting your house on fire despite not having a giant fan sucking air through it… Isn't it basically on the level of the PS3?
Just look at the Xenoblade games, SMT5, Persona 5 and Monster Hunter, the hardware can handle much higher graphical fidelity as long as there's a competent team behind the wheel.
Edit: I bought the physical version of Violet on the day of release and I've been having fun with it since, I play it in the same way I did BOTW so it's slow going just exploring a little here and there. I don't feel the game is unplayable by any means, I just wish it had a lot more of the features that Arceus did and a little less empty open space. The framerate is an issue as well, but on the whole I'm enjoying it more than I did Sword and Shield.
And fine, you can call me out on typing my comment before listening to the whole video, but I still agree with much you said.
Love it or hate it the game still has serious quality issues that needs to be fixed. Im long time since red fan, as much as i want game im waiting till it gets fixed before buying. I dont mind graphical style of a game heck my first console was nes / atari, but i care bout performance and quality. Thats for any series not just pokemon. Im not loyal to any series enough to give 60-70 dollars for a half rushed game. Sure ill get flak for my opinion, but hey its my money, someone else wants buy game for me have at it xD.
I'm of a similar boat in my views of SV. I am having a lot of fun, and I think there's a solid pokemon game here. But man it came out before it was ready. I wish it came out next year instead, or even 2024.
Bro the first minute and a half of this video was so badass.
We got a crap game that's really enjoyable. The loading of the pokemon is super slow, it glitches and freezes multiple time. It was an unfinished product which is unfair to the consumer. But it was fun the ideas are there. I enjoyed running around doing my thing.
Wow! I'm very offended! Why do you hate Pokémon?! I can't enjoy these games anymore!
J/k love you, dad. I completely agree with you. I've been enjoying the game just fine but there are a lot of things that are not fun or just plain ugly.
The Switch has some truly stunning games.
Realistic? No. But I'm sick of dull brown & grey. I'm also a long-time Monster Hunter fan. A series that has only ever looked stunning in World but has always had highly memorable & fun character designs & animations.
I don't care about graphics & I don't care about voice acting. In fact I don't want Pokémon to have voice acting because I know we'll end up with some cringe Dora The Explorer shit. Or in the case of Iono insanely obnoxious & annoying.
Pokémon's biggest issue is optimisation. They have no excuses for how fucking poor it runs.
I adore so much about S&V but my god did they give even Bethesda a run for their money with this one.
The switch has had far better. I'm tired of people focusing on graphics like its the only thing that matters in gaming.
Gameplay is going downhill & is filled with scummy business practices, but its ok because our new console is only slightly worse than a high end PC for the next month.
They could have the most powerful console in the world & it would mean nothing if GameFreak has to rush a game out because it NEEDS to line up with the card game, TV show & merch. I don't say that to defend it, I say it to complain.
The game's quality is being sacrificed for money.
We keep seeing it over & over again within the game industry. We're not dealing with art here, we're dealing with a soulless churned out factory product. Pokémon needs passion & time again. Because as much as I adore S&V, its pretty obvious that money is killing it like it has so many other things.
110% with you though. Not just with Pokémon but everything these days is so black & white. Gen 5 taught us nothing lol.
I have had a love hate relationship with this series since Gen4.
…Sorry for the novel.
Nuance?! In MY Pokemon discussion!? ಡ ͜ ʖ ಡ
Its an optimization issue. the Switch can handle a giant game like No Man's Sky and Dying Light flawlessly it should be able to handle Pokemon!
I don't think I understand the purpose of the video.
Fully agree with you the fact that older games like Zelda breath of the wild and Xenobalde chronicles 2 runs so much better than SV really tells you that Gamefreak either didn’t have the time and were probably crunching get the game released for this holiday or they simply don’t care anymore about releasing an optimized game
It's important that people hear these things and learn and understand that pokemon games are not perfect games no matter how much you love them. The underlining problem is Gamefreak and TPC will continue this trend because they know people will buy them anyways, they take zero effort to improve their way of making games. I think one of the hardest things here for me anyways is fighting that urge to buy these games cause I love pokemon and wanna play the new generation, and choosing not to spend my hard earned money on games created by Devs that don't give a enough of a shit about making their game actually good because I want them to understand this is not ok. I love pokemon but I'm not blind to the BS anymore. Honest opinion, pokemon games are a mistreated Digimon, they're evolving poorly due to the mistreatment of GF and TPC.
Some of the silliest things really bother me about this gen. For example, in every 3D pokemon, when the sleep status is had, the pokemon will close their eyes. For some reason, they don't in this gen. I thought maybe with the new models, there wasn't a closed eye animation made but this is proven wrong when you see a pokemon faints. Seems like an oversight to me.
Even If I didnt agree with you, that voice would make me agree 🤣 but i do. I totally agree.
Persona 5 Royal is on Switch so it's not the Switch's problem so to the people who are defending these trash heaps are seriously coping right now.
Yes, it's a very nuanced topic. The hardware is making Gamefreak's job harder, in that they have to spend more time (that they clearly aren't getting) polishing and optimizing. Time spent optimizing might have fixed the performance bugs, but there are huge technical hurdles that the studio doesn't seem ready to tackle. I don't have insight into their development process, but I have to wonder how difficult it is to have so many animations and models dynamically loading in and out of play moment to moment, and whether they knew how heavy optimizing that load would be. The art being so basic and washed out is at least in part an issue with performance vs visuals, but it also seems like they bit off WAY more than they can chew- an issue that has plagued them since Sun and Moon. If it isn't linear or extremely constrained from a level design perspective, it's utilitarian and devoid of any detail.
I love pokemon and played it for years, but I can agree that it’s also pretty garbage. It has a lot of bugs and needs to be made better, I still do love the games though
The weird fact is people have so many different experiences. (As always with Pokemon xD)
But I am 60H in game and I havent experienced any gamebreaking glitches.
Lighting glitches indeed exist, and pokemon load SO SLOW in the boxes, but rest of the game was just unpolished, but the gameplay is VERY solid even with all weird decisions.
What is frustrating to me however is people complain about graphics, but not about lacking pokemon, or forced expshare.
Apparently from what I've heard the older devs over at Game Freak REFUSE to learn new skills to improve on making games and continue to use outdated techniques which is why the Pokémon games have such awful performance issues and such.
As much as I enjoy playing Scarlet and Violet as they most fun Pokémon games I've played in a long time, it has a number of issues I wish they were fixed and added back in.
I never used Set mode, but that's an option other people like using and shouldn't have been taken out, I want Shinies to have overworld jingles and visual cues due to a number of Pokémon being so BLOODY SMALL and some Shiny colors so close to the original color it's hard to tell, bring back Infinite TMs I'm sick of this crafting or limited resources when making competitive Pokémon is suppose to be easier. Also, better Post-Game… it's a DAMN SHAME when Black and White 1 and 2 and Heart Gold & Soul Silver had better Post-Game for a Pokémon and more content to do.
I've played Violet after finishing Scarlet and Violet crashed on me 3 times. Scarlet only once to my luck. Not to mention the Region Dex this time… not many good choices for a team setups. For some reason I can't really find a water-type Pokémon to add to my team and such. There are new Pokemon I do like, but so far… I miss my Milotic, Togekiss, Clefairy and are not in the game.
Raids are better than SwSh's, but lordy I wish not EVERYTHING stopped when the enemy Pokémon does something instead of being fully Active Time Battle here considering the timer and how often the enemy monster can attack in a row. I usually have to wait like a minute or so before I'm prompted to do any other move.
I like SV, but I wish they weren't forced to do so many Pokemon games in short bursts AND have people WILLING to learn new skills to help make crafting games more easier and flow better. And management too which they all suck.
playing this game and Temtem
ok, the game is good in some aspect nd bad in other; but ,paying 60 for half-baked pokemon game is an issue, with the rumor going that pokemon company saying '' there will be no update or a patch to fix it cuz the game is perfect''
The white knighting with pokemon is truly a problem, but sadly, it isn't limited to pokemon. I didn't pick up SV because all the trailers just rubbed me the wrong way. I felt like something was off, and when a game like Xenoblade Chronicles 3 can run with few hiccups on the Switch, why can't PKMN-SV? I just wish they delayed the game 3 – 6 months so they could polish the game more.
