on your internal pitch lowering with age… Maybe Yngwie and the classical composers were on to something with Eb tuning and playing in flat/sharp keys. They sound more natural somehow…
You should do a collaboration video on a great song with the Professor of Rock. He could do the backstories and genesis of the song, and you could analyze why the music is great.
Luck is where Preparation meets Opportunity HAH! Best to focus on Preparation, and shooting for every 'Opportunity' you can find. Luck is elusive, and out of your control. Great Vlog RB, you're a Beast on Guitar; Beast of musicology and theory; & truly a BEAST on 4th Grade 5th Grade Track and PULL-UPS! WOOT!
✌️😘
No. I'm sorry, but hard work does not pay-off.
Looks like you have one of those Oura rings. I just got one.
Cool tech !!
How cool! I am the same age as you and I was the only person at my school who got the Presidential Physical Fitness Award way back then. I remember my first year doing 201 sit-ups and had a bloody tailbone when I did my 29 pull-ups! Now I can’t do that anymore so I figure I’ll start learning the guitar since I’m over 60 now. 🙂 I’m not so sure that this learning how to play guitar isn’t harder!
Rick’s channel is just the most wonderful. Its introduced me to music i never knew i could love. Especially the interviews. Introduced me to Mike Dawes. Now i would love a show with Joe Robinson. Any chance Rick?
Rick, you are the shining light for all of us, god bless you! 🤘🏼
Thank you for sharing your hugely important lesson Rick Beato.
Tell that to someone in hospice.
Start, choose, fail, restart, choose, win, choose, fail, restart, your life, your chioce. Take control of your life. You want, you can, you do.
It seems that your physical routine to get better at pull-ups you also applied to learning the guitar: practice, practice, practice, not giving up. You didn't complain or blame others you went out and put in the time to get it done. That shows character; therefore, I have respect for you. It is also an element that contributed to you having a measure of success. Nothing was given to you on a silver platter, you went out and earned it.
It is very cool Rick that you share starting guitar with Ian Tyson. He broke his ancle at a rodeo so to pass the time he learned guitar hence starting him of to be the finest chronicler, in song, of the North American West. The song "The Gift" his tribute to Charlie Russell is a masterpiece. "He could paint the light/on horsehide shining/the scattered herds of the buffalo”
Musicians tell me: I'd rather have my entire music career ruined, plus all the careers of all the musicians I know, then to complain even once about the Universal CEO, making a $300,000,000.00 (300 million) bonus, while music sales are half of what they were in 1999.
(The Big Three Labels that control the entire music industry and your career are Universal, Sony, Warner.)
Then I say, "What???"
I've improved so much listening to your vids. I always had a good ear. (Played trombone as a kid for 6 years, taught myself how to play baritone too. related fingerings to the slide positions of the trombone) What I've learned lately on guitar is some theory in regards to why and what is happening to make a major chord a minor, a sus 4.. a 7th. Then realizing if you can play bar chords (some people just struggle and give up) KEEP practicing bar chords!. Then, if you memorize where you are up on the neck, (easy.. know the barred 5th fret is an A. Pick up middle finger, now it's A minor. Up a string, same 5th fret, power chord, is D.) (Don't strum bottom E string. Go from there. Same barred fingering still on 5th fret up a string makes it a minor.. so D minor. I suppose only those who already knows this understands what I'm saying. My point, master bar chords.. strengthen those fingers.. makes learning songs much easier.
“No problem comes without a gift in its hands.” -Richard Bach
If a gym teacher doesn't know if a student can even do 1 pull-up before a test, there is a serious problem. Part of the ability to perform is knowledge – there is a technique involved in doing exercises and pull-ups tend to be particularly elusive. A few years ago, I watched a ton of videos on proper pull-up form and broke down the constituent parts, went and worked on each part, then put them together. In one summer, I went from never having done a pull-up, to doing 21. I didn't gain tons of muscle, I learned how to engage the muscles necessary for completing the task. There's a parallel to be drawn here to music education.
🌍🌎🌏🌞🌞🌞👌👌👌Thank you Lord for Rick's help.
I needed this video today. Thank you.
For those bundle packages, you're so generous to do this.
Your story about the fitness merit badges gave me bad flashbacks. Same era, only in Canada. Here we had a fourth level, which was the badge for everyone who had participated but had not ended up with gold, silver or bronze. I got that participation badge, which was shame-red in colour, more than a few times. This program is referenced as "the National Fitness Program' in the Tragically Hip song, "Fireworks".
Ha! I got one of those patches in 6th grade at Villa Park Elementary. It was really fun to go through all the events.
OMG, I have that same award. In fact, I was called up at an assembly in 6th grade a presented that patch and a plaque for being first place over several AF bases. I was blown away. I was shy kid and I had no idea my name was being called to come up in front of the entire school. I was very athletic, played all sports, and my Dad had me lifting weights at a young age. I worked incredibly hard and that award really helped me to see what happens when you work hard.
