The U.S.-backed coup in Chile, 50 years ago today, continues to cast a shadow over the country.

Renowned author Ariel Dorfman served as cultural adviser to socialist President Salvador Allende before his overthrow by General Augusto Pinochet in 1973. He reflects on the anniversary and the role of U.S. officials, including Henry Kissinger, in fomenting the coup.

  1. In Canada the media are not afraid to talk about difficult issues.
And after 9-11 the CBC had an interview with a woman from Chile who was explaining the American Coup against their government.
Chile was about to elect a left wing governments of the people to replace the tyrant in power literally killing its citizens.
But the US had other plans and also wanted to continue buying up land in Chile with no restrictions, which Americans were already buying too much land.
The biggest issue for the US was a left wing government for and of the people.
The woman in the interview was an intellectual who said the US had it coming, and she didn't feel sorry for anyone in the US.

Also, 9-11 in the US was attacked on that day because of 9-11 in Chile.

This is what some people in the United States don't want you learning about because it's Unamerican and Unpatriotic to actually learn about our history.

  4. Sadly, Chile wasn't the only democratic country the U.S. economically, politically and militarily interfered in! Nicaragua was attacked by the U.S. backed contras who also exported cocaine by the ton into cities in America! Oliver North and other U.S. officials protected them plus helped set up logistics which cartels are using today to smuggle fentanyl and other drugs into America!

  5. Ten years since the 2014 coup! My parents were killed by Majdan, my brother assassinated by the CIA and the Gestapo/SBU. And in March of 2022 Zelensky " disappears " one of my best friends, Oleg Novikov. And yet- not one word from you or Michelle Bachelett! Why? Please tell me why?
