Comfortable numb is fom the "" Wall "" album it is a concept album picking a song randomly while sampling pink Floyd works is s pointless tasks then trying to make sense of it Pink Floyd dont do random meaningless songs … Lol in regards to the album ,"" Wish you were here "" what Roger waters was trying to convay the band had lost some cohesive togetherness primary he's referring to the loss of a founding member of the band Syd Barrett who succumbed to drugs and messed him up mentally, he had to leave the band a song from that album "" shine on you crazy diamond "" is about Barrett 😮
This song is fun to play on guitar.
'Dogs' from their 1977 album 'Animals'
Welcome to another instalment of Pink Floyd's 3 dimensional sound!👍
The loss of their original band leader and friend Syd Barrett to mental illness reportedly due to an overdose of bad LSD. Syd spent the last 40 years of his life a hollow shell planting flowers in his garden until his death in 2006
Most people don't realize, until they see a live version, David is vocally harmonizing with the lead guitar parts. With Floyd you often have to remember context of time. The Vietnam War hadn't been over that long before.
Ok this song is definitely a reference to Syd Barrett, I have listened to it for 40 years and just enjoyed it, however I recently listened to another first reaction and she nailed it, at least the start, she said (having no history of Syd) that the monotone guitar at the beginning sounded like someone else, someone from another world trying to communicate with the band and the band then respond in full stereo, to me it was an apocalypse moment as that's clearly what it was, Syd in his own little world not being able to communicate properly with the rest of the band who had moved on, so sad as without Syd there would be no Pink Floyd.
Contrary to what many think, this song was NOT written about Syd Barrett. And here are the quotes from the band to indicate this:
Waters, who wrote the lyrics, has said: “There’s one song that’s about Syd (“Shine on You Crazy Diamond”), but the rest of it isn’t. It’s a much more universal expression of my feelings about absence. Because I felt that we weren’t really there. We were very absent."
Gilmour also added: “Although “Shine on You Crazy Diamond” is the one that is specifically about Syd, and “Wish You Were Here” has a wider remit, I can’t sing it without thinking about Syd.”
These quotes appear out of their own mouths at 14:08 and 53:17 on the DVD “The Story of Wish You Were Here”.
Wish You Were Here is the best out of many many amazing songs
Roger Waters sums up what the song is about……..https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xP8nL6mkAXU
Welcome to the pink floyd machine
yes listening to this whole album from start to finish is an eye opening experience to say the least!
Syd Barrett.
You've stumbled upon my absolute favorite Floyd album. Just like you mentioned before listening, this album is best digested as a whole piece. Brilliant from beginning to end.
A number from the Pulse concert? My suggestion is "Run Like Hell"!
From Pulse "Time" would be a great choice!
Can you do Welcome to the Machine by Pink Floyd next?
"Money" at Pulse you'll enjoy. Live is always better.
React to AC DC "Beating around the bush".
You guys never heard of a radio lol
This song is about Syd Barrett. Between trying acid and latent schizophrenic symptoms that became manifest just at the time the band was starting to break. Some of the members had known Syd since they were babes, others from high school, and the rest, college. As you can appreciate nowadays how mental health is not dealt with, hard to imagine how young men could deal with someone they loved being so compromised beyond return. Much of their work as a band references him. Gilmour made sure Syd received royalties and periodically the band would release one of his tunes or include performance of his work to continue to support him through his creativity. The fact the band was successful beyond their imagining, really, but without their friend with them, I am sure was bittersweet during those years. I like to think there was resolution for all of them, esp before his death.
The 'Pulse' concert live version is the best version of this song.
Just watching two people experience this song makes me cry.
I love this song. Its my favorite Pink Floyd song and second is 'Hey You.'
That was easy,1965 i was just toddler.
Ckeck out "set the controls for the heart of the sun" from the album saucer full of secrets .Not to many reaction channels ,have reacted to this hidden gem from there early days!🍁 ❤
My main problem with this song is that it's too short. Pink Floyd has so many longer songs and I wish this was one of them and it had one more verse.
Then again, maybe you can't mess with perfection.
Mine fav is Astronomy Domine '67 release.
You young people will never get this style of music ,
Don’t even try
Great gig in the sky. You'll love it.
Another absolute awesome track "Shine on you Crazy Diamond" and here is the live version from the Pulse concert. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4oK1Jco6JFM
EDIT: One important point I would like to make is that no matter how fantastic of a performance that this is, there is nothing like hearing the studio version of this song. It's a big longer I think and takes more time developing but it is so well worth it.
Echoing what everyone has already said, this song is about former band member Syd Barrett. I suggest looking up a bit about Syd, and maybe checking out one of the albums he wrote with Pink Floyd.
The cough you heard in the intro was David Gilmour clearing his throat. When he heard it, he swore off smoking cigarettes forever. I think production left it in as a reminder,
Sometimes it's interesting to hear the reactions of "newbies" to classic tracks. but most of the time either they jusy don;t get it or as with this pair just rabbit what they think the viewers want. eg " inovational .ahead of it's time etc. it's just clickbait fodder.
The beginning sounds like someone tuning in a radio station and he/she finally hits this song clearly. Sounded like an old radio serial or an old movie.
I've got to ask, why the random fans PowerPoint slide show video as what to use as a reaction? Very odd choice.
The last time when Pink Floyd played live in 2005, for the “Live 8”charity concert, in London, this was one of the four songs they played. Roger, David, Richard, and Nick had not played together since 1981, the Wall tour. Animosity and conflict between. Yet three did two more albums, and epic tours – Roger did his own work. This charity concert, live Live Aid, brought the four to play, together, for Workd hunger. It was an amazing performance! At the start, Roger says into the mic’, “This is for Syd”. Syd B’ died like the next year. Richard died soon after.
Yes they are concept albums but you miss nothing by listening to the songs individually. Its just hard core Floyd fans trying to convince you to do whole album reactions, which isn't a bad thing but its unnecessary for what your channel is trying to achieve. Keep mixing it up and keep doing Floyd songs. This song epitomises Floyd to me.
This one and Time hit me deeper every year.
P.S. I had never considered before how reactors have to be careful not to hear something they might want to do a reaction video to. Now I'm laughing at the prospect of being at a party or something and yelling, "No! Turn it off! I haven't heard this one yet!" 😂
One Of These Days !!! (studio version)
You are correct on the concept thinking. Best band ever live.
A little-known fact is that Pink (Anderson) Floyd (Council) was named after two blues musicians from Syd Barret's album collection. So the band was initially a rhythm and blues band because of those influences that seemed to have infected most English bands back in the day. You can hear the influence in this song and much of their early music.
Pink Floyd is its own genre of Rock in my humble opinion. Only Led Zeppelin tops them amongst my favorite bands and not by much. Rock On!!
Masterpiece!
This is the same as most Pink Floyd albums. You need to listen to the entire album in a sitting to understand the songs.
5:58… Hits me Hard, Every time…
Floyd is arguably one of the 5 most important bands of the post WW11 English rock bands. Started has a trippy, avant garde project, after Syd Barrett left in '67, and Dave Gilmore became a permanent member they moved more twords introspective and progressive themes. They are regarded has essential listening.
It's awkward that you still haven't reacted to these bands. whats wrong? (Los Hermanos – Todo Carnaval Tem Seu Fim (Video Clipe); and any song from the others on the list:(Charlie Brown Jr)(Ed Motta)(Tim Maia)(Ivete Sangalo)(Tuatha de Danann – Acoustic Live)(É o Tchan!)(Cazuza)(Marília Mendonça)(Legião Urbana)(tribo de jah)(Bruno e Marrone)(Cássia Eller)(Luiz Gonzaga)(Kid Abelha)(Raça Negra)(Maria Bethânia)(Ney Matogrosso)(Jorge Ben Jor)(Jorge Vercilo)(Roberto Carlos)(Jota Quest)(Zé Ramalho)(Engenheiros do Hawaii)(Pitty)(Biquini Cavadão)(Skank)(Barão Vermelho)(O Rappa)(Mamonas Assassinas)(Natiruts)(Planta e Raiz)(Maneva)(Guilherme Arantes)(Lenine)(Djavan)(Daniel)(Criolo)(Natiruts)(Planta e Raiz)(Maneva)(Guilherme Arantes)(Lenine)(Djavan)(Daniel)(Criolo)(Fagner)
