Is ‘The Last of Us’ Zombie Fungus Real?

In HBO’s new hit series “The Last of Us,” a deadly fungus sweeps the planet turning humans into killer zombies. It’s a zombie apocalypse that’s even more terrifying because “The Last of Us” is inspired by real science. The fungus in the show that turns humans into zombies actually exists. Matt Kasson, an associate professor of mycology, says ants and cicadas can be impacted by a fungus that could turn them into zombies.

  1. What about that rage alien virus that takes over your very body altering your image into something so inhumane yet recognizable? Twisting and reorganizing your limbs until it's reached its final form.

  2. The fungus is real. However, it's a fungus that attacks insects. If it ever mutates and starts to infect mammals or bigger animals, then yes, it's possible. Very unlikely though.

  3. Many modern zombies movies already appear to be heavily based upon the rabies virus, so it's probably not the first Zombie movie to use real viruses or pathogens as inspiration.

Media outlet be like : "should we eat Cordyceps to avoid racism, stop cops from killing people, reduce carbon footprint and avoid climate change,?"

  5. I won't say that this is unlikely to happen, because playing with probabilities is the same thing as shooting yourself in the foot. Cordyceps would have little chance of infecting humans, but nobody mentioned the fact that we can make it happen ourselves. All it takes is a dishonest scientist to create the fungus in the laboratory by modifying it so that it can attack humans. Just throw the modified fungus in a mega populated city and see the magic happens.
