Is the DISNEYLAND PEOPLEMOVER Returning?

It’s time I talk about this. Honestly, I don’t know. I want to believe. I also don’t want to be burned. Not again…

Here’s a link to Alicia Stella’s Podcast Clip about the PeopleMover for more context: https://twitter.com/AliciaStella/status/1547033789305700352?s=20&t=sWlK1MUqPZ075MUZ7iJjEg

  1. Forget about the peoplemover. Bring back Country Bears Jamboree, as a hybrid, part live & part animatronics, dinner show. Something like the campground show in Disneyworld, but with all the old furry gang back together again.

  2. I don’t understand the logic behind making it shorter unless there’s spot to naturally cut off a loop with out having to build a new section of track from the ground up.

  3. Talked to a 20+ year employee and they were saying that Space Mountain is going to get a Buzz Lightyear overhaul. I can't wait to see if that's true and will cause meltdowns lol. I'd believe that before this. But you do know what they are going to do right? Drop us a Star Tours ride with a setup of going thru the people mover track with Disney characters abound… Get those 3D glasses ready!

  4. I remember my old coworker a few years ago who had an older sibling working as some manager at DCA said there were ideas of a people mover that would go back and forth from Disney to DCA. It seems like it only went as far as an idea and nothing more as far as what they told me, or just another rumor flowing among some cast members who knows. But interesting none the less right?

  5. I would extend the Disneyland PeopleMover to Big Thunder Trail with a station placed there at the crossroads of three themed lands serving Fantasyland, Stars Wars Galaxy's Edge, and the back area of FrontierLand. I would use most of the existing PeopleMover Guideway and weave new elevated guideway between the backside of Fantasyland and the Fantasyland Stage to the crossroads area near the back area of FrontierLand. Now you have an effective transportation ride/attraction that also helps move people quickly to other areas of Disneyland while giving them a chance to relax, get off their feet, and an aerial view of various parts of Disneyland.

I rode the PeopleMover as kid and then worked as a ride operator at Star Tours in 2004 in Tommowland. I noticed a big difference in people traffic in Tommowland especially when I worked at the entrance of Star Tours during the year and after they closed Rocket Rods. The PeopleMover could move over 6,000 people per hour (pph) with the Haunted Mansion and POTC are about 4,600 pph. I also saw a lot of the Rocket Rods ride shutdowns and the technicians working on it. It was very problematic and then permanently shut it down. They should have kept it, extended it with another station, or updated the PeopleMover instead of putting the Rocket Rods in, which they could have done elsewhere like DCA. Very stupid.

  6. When I was at Disney 80's night during my honeymoon before the lockdown, they had a Tron Themed Poster that said something bout the people mover in the area where everyone picked up their badges.

  7. no I want the people over to come back to where it was just take all the parts of the track that got messed up with the rocket rods whatever it was repair or replace what needs to be done and don't shorten it

  8. I do so love the original Peoplemover, was so sad when it was shut down, and even a small rumor is enough to get me somewhat excited. Great memories of riding it in the 1970s and then into the 80s when the Tron Tunnel was put in! And especially when that was new, with the Tron computer graphics cutting edge at that time, the cyclorama video projection in a dark tunnel was extremely cool, and video of a Peoplemover ALMOST brings the experience back, because one of the most appealing things about the ride was that it was slow and scenic. If they bring it back, they should make it long. It was fun because it gave you a great view “in the air” looking down on Tomorrowland and surrounding areas. It was both interior and exterior views you got — much like the railroad train. Gave everyone a chance to relax and enjoy the cool breeze instead of standing in line again. Truly missed along with Innerspace. Trippy ride, truly.

  9. The technology used in the Peoplemover is old, like 1960’s old. I feel Disney can bring it to the 21st century in its original form without cutting corners. I mean when has Disney ever cut corners???

  10. I’m ok with it being shorter but, I liked being able to sit, rest your feet for about 20min and still being entertained. I will take whatever I can get as long as it’s Peoplemover and not stupid rocket rods.

  11. Dude, here goes. I am familiar w/ uh hem, Disney. My company installed the original Thunder Mt. & Splash Mt. tracks. Disney was the worst developer I ever worked for. They treated contractors very badly. Now they just treat everyone badly. Anyway, here's the scoop. People Mover is coming back, track shortened. Why shortened? They are going to tear down Carousel of Progress which has People Mover track going thru it. It will temporarily be empty space. The empty space eventually, psst, come closer, will become Disneyland version of Tron. All this will cost a fortune so do not hold your breath on a quick time frame. Disney is losing money like Lake Mead is losing water. If they don't stop the wokeness & price gouging it may never happen. What am I talking about? $6000 for a day & a half in a hotel dinner theater or a $5000 drink on the Wish? Keep up the good work…

  12. I went to the park for the first time in 6 years and I miss the People Mover. My kids really enjoyed a lot of the non-IP traditional Disneyland rides like the Monrail and the train. I think they would love the PM.

  13. I'd love to have the Peoplemover back. But to be honest, that video clip makes me wonder if they're going to put something in the area where the Motorboats used to be.

  14. First, ask yourself “Has Disney ever brought back a ride?”

Now, in order for that ride to return they would need to completely remove and rebuild the current structure because it is crumbling. They’d also have to install hand railings the entire path of the track due to updated safety protocols in the U.S. should the vehicles need to be evacuated.

While I agree this would be very nice if they did something with that old track, I personally don’t see them spending time and money on it other than to remove it. History speaks for itself.

  15. I bet with this many people talking about it, they’d finally decide to bring it back… like how they changed splash mountain.

I know they they were thinking about splash before it all happened, but maybe the same idea here applies for the people mover as well.

  17. Tomorrowland really needs help. I don’t see PM making any sense though. At the very least, I can’t imagine Disney putting anything without an IP

  18. Maybe they'll turn the PeopleMoover into a showpiece for Zoox, Automotive. They are low-maintenence, fully-electric, fully-autonomous & serve the same purpose. Disney could use the same PeopleMoover track & have Zoox vehicles instead.

  19. I rode Rocket Rods once and thought it had too many pointless dark parts. I could be wrong. But if they can make the track better and more beautiful/scenic and those cute colorful bucket cars back I’d be happy. ❤

  20. Dude the reason why the ride was so great was that you got on basically instantly and you would have several minutes of being able to relax your feet and enjoy interesting views like an instant on ride. It would roll around all from above everybody, and was a good way to relax for a few minutes in-between rides.

  21. Cost effecfive? Yeah, I'm fine with that. No need to burn rubber, a track is fine. Shortened? Ehhhhhhhh, I dunno…… I think the track by autopia and stuff is pretty important, so I dunno

  22. I'm trying not getting my hopes up. We all thought they were going announce something about Tomorrowand in the last D23 Expo in 2019, but mentioned not a peep about it. So, we'll see if this time it's different.

  23. Bring it back!! However a shorter version of it is not a good idea. It still needs to travel around a autopia and finding Nemo lagoon. The track will need to be changed somewhat, especially if innovations building ( or whatever that building is called) get torn down.

  24. I thought there was no way. Then it gained traction. And it seems like a cheap way to help 'fix' Tomorrowland. David at Freshbaked had a great walkthrough video of the track and how it could still incorporate the old track over the Autopia/Subs. Check it out and keep up the great content!

  25. So in October of last year I saw cast members walking around in the station platform area of people mover. It seems like what happened just before the subs returned to Disneyland.
