Definitely yes! I can still remember that episode with angemon. Also, because the digimon could speak it made them more relatable in a sense.
Pokémon got boring quickly because team rocket was so repetitive and I didn’t think that Ash was learning anything new. It was honestly frustrating to watch him again and again and he never won any championships to show what he’s learned.
In Digimon, the characters learn and you can see them adjusting to this new world they’re in. The battles aren’t always easy but they learn from them. The characters really progress as the story unravels itself. And the villains are so much better than team rocket.
Digimon is just written much better than Pokémon.
I like digimon more it actions and dark stories while pokemon is a fun adventure I think I will still want to live in a pokemon world even if they could kill me.
The general opinion has always been that the Digimon anime was better then the Pokemon anime. While there is some argument about the quality of digimon anime; it is praised for being, relatively, more engaging, emotional and mature.
GUYS THE UPDATE IS HERE I REPEAT THE UPDATE IS HERE DUDES!!!!!!!! CHECK IM NO LYING!!
Yes.
I always felt that, aside from the important battles, the Pokemon in its entirety is basically filler, but no way they should’ve retired Ash after Sinnoh. They made the right move letting him win a championship and tie up lose ends while proving it wasn’t a fluke
Pokemon games got boring as hell a long time ago. I completely disagree they arent stale, I think people are just working with what they have
I grew up with digimon, Literally GREW UP watching the Main characters got older and the show introducing real world apllications with the struggles of being an adult. The idea of when your older, you have responsibilities and cant have these child adventures like the first digimon series, but both worlds still NEED YOU.
They should have aged ash to show both sides of being a kid with dreams and the challenges of getting older, especially with the audience being a mixed age group.
The main reason for Pokémons success vs Digimons was imo the way the anime’s were westernized. The Pokémon anime was basically a 1 for 1 translation (aside from the banned episodes obviously) but the Digimon dub was twisted into the infamous cringe kids show we remember. If they marketed the Digimon anime in the west better and chose better writing to replace the cursing and non kid friendly remarks, Digimon all together might have gotten more traction and potentially could be more of a rival to Pokemon in terms of popularity. Obviously I don’t believe that would happen since Japan is always scared to dub certain franchises to begin because they could bomb over here but that’s my theory
Yes
They both have issues for me. Now, mindful, I haven't seen all the Digimon anime nor have I seen all of the Pokemon anime. I stopped watching Pokemon after Advanced (Hoenn), and until recently, never got to see a lot of the Digimon anime all the way through. I did sit and watch Adventure 1 and tried watching Adventure 02.
And my stance is that they both got pros and cons for me, based on the little I've seen of both.
On Pokemon, I do like it more than Digimon, it largely stems from liking their monster designs a lot more, as Digimon likes to go humanoid and mecha and I just like creatures based designs more, which Pokemon does more. But anime wise, I got tired of Ash a a lead. So I stopped watching after a while to stick with the games, which even as a kid, I liked the games more than the show. It also hit me that the show lies, cause I was a dumb kid, playing Firered and thinking that Brock was going to join me on my travels after I beat him. And first time playing Sapphire, I picked Mudkip like May thinking I'd get to pick again later cause I really wanted Treecko. It did not happen.
Either way, I did appreciate the anime expanding on the pokemon, giving more personality to these creatures, and there were some fun fight scenes. But I also noticed they didn't fully follow the games completely which I had always found to be a little weird as a kid. I would've been up to watch more and stick with it, if they did let Ash go sooner as I just didn't like him enough as a lead to stick with him and see more of his journey.
With Digimon, I do appreciate the series being more experimental and broad in what they do. And for the most part, I did really like the partner digimon designs, especially their rookie designs and a few of their later forms. And as a kid, I got to see a handful of eps of 01, 02, Tamers, and Frontier, which over all I did like them. And I like that they change up the cast so you get different characters to focus on. It is refreshing that they'll always do something new.
But the drawback is I find Digimon anime typically is lacking in a plan and writing can be all over the place.
Officially watching Adventure 01 for the first time, writing is my biggest criticism of it. They had too many characters to juggle and prioritized certain ones over the others, and you could see that they didn't have an over all plan so they just rolled things out and there'd suddenly be new villains that we were to accept as new big bads. It just wasn't set up or balanced well. And Adventure 02 was actually worse, I had to stop when I gave it ago.
I'll be giving Tamers a go soon and I'm looking forward to that as I know they had more control over that one and that'll probably have the most grounded story.
Between the two, more likely to watch more Digimon anime, as they are more experimental and you got new characters to work off of, typically. A lot of the past Pokemon anime I wouldn't watch as I was long done with Ash, but I do like the consistency and familiarity of the Pokemon World and getting a chance to see more personality in these creatures and it's a world I'd love to visit and be immersed in, so I am excited to see him finally retire and to see some fresh faces for the anime and to go back into it another way outside the games.
Started out with the Pokemon games but now also liking a few Digimon games and waiting for the new Digimon Story. Things are now reversed for me. At first it was only the Digimon anime and both the Pokemon anime and games, now it's mostly just the Pokemon games and both the Digimon games and anime.
Pokemon anime is really, really, REALLY lazily done… It clearly has no effort put into it, its just an extended merchandising commercial.
if only digimon could make a halfway decent game
Coromon mobile had an update
Hell, yes it is
I have been a fan of both at the same time, but I don't really support Pokémon now. I feel the video games for Pokémon have remained the same, but they are doubling down on being a game for kids each generation, and not supporting the older fanbase with proper representation. In the new games, what can adults really do after beating the story? Only being competitive do you have stuff still. What about the casual players who don't shiny hunt or bother with competitive? Why is the Exp. Share a FORCED MECHANIC that's always on and you can't turn it off? I loved transferring my Pokémon each Gen. But now, I am not moving forward as the Pokémon games offer less and less for adult players.
As someone who has watched all of both… I think digimon seasons 1 and 3 ( not season 2 ) are better if you're looking for solid adventure stories. Season 3/Digimon Tamers has amazing writing and is enjoyable even as an adult. It almost feels like a horror show and if you havent seen it you should go watch it now!! Pokemon on the other hand, is better intermittently. The first two seasons and X & Y are very well written. Unfortunately there were also events like ashes pikachu losing to snivy in Unova that fans hated. Some people dont like team rocket because they show up every episode just to lose, but I find their comedy enjoyable so I have no comment there. I think pokemon is just a lot more lighthearted considering in Digimon they're trying to survive, while in pokemon Ash is just having fun on his journey. It all depends on if you want a dark monster taming survival story, or a light hearted monster taming adventure.
If you are are looking for a story where the characters grow and change and the story develops over time, than Yes Digimon is better.
I mean I am glad that Ash is finally a Pokemon Master but it took him 25 YEATS to get there.
I'm a big fan of Digimon and Pokemon.
Anime: Digimon is better
Games: Pokemon is better
Digimon are almost always extra-dimensional spirits that got entangled in Cyber Space. Its just often really vague about it or uses it as a plot twist.
Survive was just "but what if we explore the part before that happens".
I hope they do a second kickstarter for more content Lumentale I mean, even if I noticed I can't support them with my options, I tried out some stuff.
If you stripped all the sci-fi out of Digimon, I wouldn't care about it anymore. I would've grown out of it quickly like any other show, especially anime. I like Gundam because it's mature sci-fi. I like Digimon when it's doing mature sci-fi.
the first and second digimon generations, yes. they are more serious and can actually hit you in the feels.
I mean if you're talking about the Ghost Game one…
I don't know if Pokemon Anime is a good comparison since Digimon Ghost Game is probably a psychological horror. It's still got the "Transformation"/"Henshin" that those kids series usually have which confuses me about who's the target audience of this anime.
I mean if you're wondering about the psychological horror aspect in the anime, well the Mushroom scene is enough to give kids phobia of wearing white outfit. The anime is just dark in general, what kind of kids anime animated a scene where mushrooms grew on people's body(including the female MCs) and then have a digimon rip it out from their body??
And then there's a scene where Meicrackmon literally invites the trainer to sleep with her, And if you're thinking that like "Oh it's just digimon", Well no if you know digimon then you know that there are Mons in Digimon that are just anthro characters with human features or downright a human. And Meicrackmon is just a Dommy Mommy ngl. BUT DAMN IT LOOKED SO WEIRD WHEN THE ANIME ACTUALLY ANIMATES SOMETHING LIKE THAT.
8/10 is what i would give it.
It's a way of Digimon trying to approach the grown ups as their new target audience, which somehow done kind of poorly if it's the Ghost Game anime, but for the Digimon Survive, i think they done it quite well.
I loved the Digimon anime growing up. Digimon Tamers is still one of my favorite anime of all time.
Both series have had their ups and downs in terms of quality and story, but I love them both. It's a shame Digimon is not as popular anymore. I would have loved to see Ghost Game come to west.
So there's a bit of bias In a lot of these comments but what it boils down to is Digimon is ever changing in all aspect's so it typically fails to reach every generation of player's/viewer's.
Look at the current fandom in terms of popularity there's a lot of dedicated older fans but a lot fewer people joining
There's two misconception 1. That the anime isn't as influential or doesn't impact most of its success. If you only engage with the games then yeah why would you care
But in reality the games are just glorified ads for the merchandise anime and card games all three garnering a huge number of viewer's/player's
The anime aging up Ash would have ruined the franchise because it fall into the Digimon Tri or even 02 issue
The franchise is smart about creating familiarity even the dumb "Gen 6 and Up sucked" is a stark contrast to the truth were Gen 5 failed so completely the Gen 6 basically did the complete opposite
Let's Go gets shit but not only did it introduced some good mechanics but also brought in millions of mobile players (including teens and kids) and every "bad* game sells because people want a Pokémon experience
Digimon has the opposite issue did everyone love David or " Mikey" or Markus or Takuya or even Takato and now Hiro the rules of Digimon and its world kept changing a lot of the series what Digimon are how they work
Even in games Aguman becomes Greyman…but can also become Tyranomon ..but also Growlmon it not the same as A Charamander become a Charmeleon it feels detached that 5 other Digimon become Greymon
TLDR Pokémon provides a consistent experience the anime may reset Ash but if you watched XY and SM there's a real feeling of progression but people harp on Snivy vs Pikachu he really only reset in BW
The games are good they provide a Pokémon experience what is a Digimon experience
People talk about Tamers and the Dreaper but do you remember how long it took to get to the Digital World or What actually happen I do and I'm sorry a lot of it was boring.
Ghost games is mostly episodic with a unique concept but people crap on it for not having a big bad it doesn't do the Digimon Tropes
The games are so varied Digimon Dawn Dusk are super grindy . Digimon World 3 doesn't give you good direction and back then you couldn't just look it up so if you got lost …World 2 is a lot of retreading and you die…a lot trust me the vehicle will crash constantly
Digimon Survive is good but you basically are locked into your routes Cyber Slueth can get exhausting especially for newcomers(serious no dub)
I love Digimon but it's hostile to a new fan's you can't watch or play passively you can't bond with any of the 1500 Digimon like Patamons Design watch him turn into an Angel or sea beast
Digimon needs to pick something Digimon Whatever and give player's a consistent experience that is casual a toddler needs to be able to grasp it
The Digimon storytelling is wonderful getting to see all the different sides of a connected storylines that eventually bring you back to the OG crew and where they're at in life is beautiful.
However with pokemon we've followed ash for almost 25 years and it shows, he has people who recognise him for his victories, he has fans, he's not the incompetent trainer he was at the start of the journey and it's very touching.
Also knowing that his journey is coming to an end now makes finishing off his story both amazing and yet heartbreaking like I said Ash and Pikachu has been in our lives for so long when they go I know I'll have a lot more feels 🥲
The things that really sets the two apart is Pokemon is for the most part a monster of the day series with a lighthearted plotline, you could pretty much pick any episode or movie and follow along with what's happening without much trouble.
Digimon on the other hand has a little of that, mostly just introducing new enemies or side characters to further an overarching plot. That alone makes it harder to get into, and that's without the unfortunate airing schedules, some storylines being cross-media, and what they did to the movies.
I love the more detailed storylines in the digimon anime and I want to go watch through a lot more of it. I quickly got bored with the pokemon anime. They both have their place and their fans, but for me, digimon was more enjoyable.
Kubberz Anime will be better !!
And it's for this reason that Ghost Game which tries to be Pokémon doesn't feel as enjoyable as the previous Digimon Anime, at least to me.
I love both
Digimon has better storytelling and has more depth and gravitas
Pokemon is great for a lot of it's chill and simple storylines not that there aren't any episodes or movies without complexity but overall Pokemon is relaxing to watch most of the time
My top three are adventure data squad then tamers just barely behind data squad.🦫
