The murky business of espionage usually exists in the shadows. But not this week on 60 MINUTES. In an intriguing and at times robust encounter, Tara Brown interviews a woman our spy agency, ASIO, claims is an agent tasked by Russia to gather sensitive information. Her name is Marina Sologub, and up until earlier this year she’d been living and working in Adelaide for three years.

Now she’s in immigration detention waiting to be kicked out of the country. As Brown reports, cases like this would normally be kept top secret, but quite remarkably a very bold Sologub is refusing to go quietly, denying accusations she’s a spy, and vowing to fight her deportation to the bitter end.

  3. I'm an irish man – I lived in Almaty city, Kazakhstan for 10 years where i learned to speak Russian, regularly interacting with some pretty high level people. This chick ain't no spy 😅 trust me. Prior to the arrival of the Ukranian refugees to Ireland it was not unusual for ANY KIND OF RUSSIAN SPEAKERS to meet and even seek each other out – numbers would have been TINY! The whole country is tiny, its easy to 'bump into other Russian speakers like she did… Ozzie intelligence have this one wrong I reckon😊

  5. THESE RUSSIAN SPIES LOVE TO TRY AN BEAT A DEMOCRATIC SYSTEM OF LAWS THAT TREAT EQUALLY CITIZENS FROM THE HOME COUNTRY. SEND HER HOPE AND SAY "BETTER LUCK NEXTIME? DOES ANYONE THINK PUTIN WOULD HESITATE TO SEND AND AMERICAN HOWM WITH THIS SAME EVIDENCE.

  9. a lot of educationalist and universities involved in research work cross borders yet there is nothing malicious or wrong other than normal research and relationships.. Australia and Commonwealth countries are overreacting to nothing by the look of it while covering-up AUKUS project which is state terrorism that the public are being played by the Australian government..

  14. 2:18 "Russia is an authoritarian state.." Said the country who wouldn't let their OWN citizens go home during the pandemic or keep their jobs without getting jabbed. Instead of wasting time on the Russians (who has no interest on anything Australian), maybe… just maybe, stop kowtowing to the US and get Assange, AN AUSTRALIAN CITIZEN, back home.

    Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!"

    Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window ? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?…"

    Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!"

    Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky."

    Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction."

    Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment ?"

  28. A real spy would not act they she does. And def would not get caught interviewing with 60 Minutes. 😂 I think she was targeted by ASIO for being Russian working in the space industry in Australia. Paranoia! ASIO would never admit they were wrong and risk embarrassment 😂😂😂

    ASTROLOGY & PSYCHOLOGY THAT THE BEST OF THE SUPER LIARS IS THE BIGGER THE GAP BETWEEN THEIR UPPER FRONT CENTRAL TEETH (INCISORS) IS THE GREATER SUPER LIARS THEY ARE AS WELL AS THEIR BIG WHITE EYES TEND TO BE SHOWING PRE-THINKING OF WHAT TO ANSWER OFTEN UNTRUE.

  33. You gotta love how she did that intro, pretending to be just Irish, but once pushed and she got upset- bam!- out comes the well known pissed off & defensive Russian dialect! Russians always stammer, mix up their words, get defensive and very angry, and start mudslinging when they are challenged &/or shown that they are lying!!!

  34. Unfortunately, the direction of your narrative in this interview was startlingly obvious. I actually find that both disappointing and disingenuous. You had clearly made up your mind before the interview even started, so how could you possibly conduct a balanced interview. At no time did you ever show any indication at all that what she was saying was the truth. I sincerely hope she sticks to her guns, is eventually cleared and returns to expose you for the amateur sleuths that you clearly make yourselves out to be. Certainly not one of the better programs that has come out of 60 minutes. And as for the comment from the Aussie Security Expert, well, I'm lost for words. To declare China & Russia as your enemies, when without China your country would be a financial ruin, says all you need to know about his credibility. Just what world is this guy living in..?? And when and why was China ever your "enemy"..? For goodness sake, they're still one of your biggest trading partners. Is that a sign of an "enemy". Disappointing, but hoping to see better in the future.

  35. I reckon that ASIO got this one right! Her body language, word choices and general demeanor raise HUGE red flags. Every inconsistency in her story and background is another red flag. Not everyone is who they say they are.. Remember that Putin visited NZ in 1980s claiming to be a "shoe salesman". Also keep in mind that diplomats sometimes do double duty 🙂

  36. I live in Ireland and seriously I don’t know if any Irish company will want to hire her again after doing a background check on this lady. I have known a lot of Russian people and yes some of them have been subjected to racism and discrimination a lot, but I trust that the Australian government must have had some information to accuse her of spying.

  38. Be China is pumping fentanyl into the United States as to wipe its population out and demoralize and crush us. Chinese scientists were literally going to labs in the Mexican desert to make the fentanyl and teach cartels so they can produce it and smuggle it into America.

  39. I am no expert but this woman is not to be believed in my opinion. Her body language and mannerisms do not seem conducive to those with nothing to hide. She is definitely hiding something!

  40. She doesn't sound like someone who lived in Ireland since her teens. Her husband sounds very Russian n it's like I am listening to some regional Russian woman trying to tell lies in the language she's not entirely proficient in although her evasive tactics draw a picture of someone prepared for interrogation – interesting for someone professing to be innocent

  42. i had zero exposure to this story before watching this, she doesn't seem like she's being completely open and honest, which seems strange for someone who says she didn't do anything
