Piano is A LOT easier to learn that a guitar. The great thing is, you also learn to read music notation as you learn, which really helps with your guitar playing. Amazon sell 'Alfred's All-In-One Piano Course' book, which taught me during lockdown. I highly recommend it (Note: I have no pecuniary/financial benefit in this book, I just love it)

I am a bass player and making a lot of progress with music theory and sight reading. I want to add a bit of piano for melodies to my bass. Just seems like a fun learning process 😁😁
Primarily a bass player but I use acoustic guitar for writing now (thanks to Meg). Piano/organ is always a nice accompaniment. I kinda cheat and use more organ as you can hold a single note (hehe). Thanks for the info, Megan, very helpful.
Thiss is comming from a working pianist. Actually what people don’t realize is that the piano is one of the hardest instruments. Their are a lot of things you have to do to prepare even for every day practice. But not only is it mastering the instrument, but learning technique and sitting and moving your body. Yes. You heard it right. The way you move really effects the playing. Also you have to concentrate on breathing and keeping your shoulders back and down. The distance you sit from the keyboard of the piano makes a difference as well. You have to learn skill so that way you are not just playing and going to injure yourself. Yes. Playing the piano does require you to have also good balance. What you might ask??? Yes. You have to have balance to play it. When you are moving from side3 to side on the bench you need to have good balance. If you are playing it wrong you will injure yourself. You want to avoid this at all cost. So sometimes the correct way can feel a bit uncomfortable. But it is the way it is. Playing the piano is a lot of work actually and it is actually a complex task for the brain. You are not just sitting somewhere and relaxing. You actually have to maintain focus while focusing on your technique and breathing and balance, and keeping from getting tense. And rhythm in both hands also playing chords and melody as well, as keeping that base line moving all of this at once. You got to bee able to multi task. Usually by the end it can bee pretty exhausting cause you have used a lot of energy playing the thing. You have to know while doing a lot of tasks simultanusouls how to pedal and where to put the pedal while trying not to get tense and keeping both hands moving. See for us that have been playing all our lives we don’t think about this cause it comes natural. Sure. I make playing the piano look easy and that is why a lot of people think that it is the easiest thing to do but it is not. The reason I make it look so easy is cause i have been playing the thing all my life. But in reality,,,,, it is one of the hardest instruments to play. You are not just pressing down on keys. You are playing the key. And their is a huge different. You are always having to bee alert while playing the piano. Also the piano not only is one of the hardest instruments to play but it actually is one of the most intimidating ones. You have to have a certain personality to play an instrument. Not just anyone can do that. You have to have passion for what instrument you are playing if not, it is not going to fit you. Just like a relationship. You really have to match up with that instrument. Pianists really have to bee intimidating as well cause that is the instrument they are playing. You personality kind of shows what instrument you are playing. Or in other words. Your personality reflects the instrument that you play. Plus with playing the piano ver y well, you have to bee a good listener, you have to put in hours of work, practicing, desire to learn, and dedication for this kind of thing. It just doesn’t come overnight like a lot of people think. Piano playing too,,,, can get kind of loud and hot. Yes. You heard that right. Stepping on pedals and moving you are actually working up some heat. And the piano can bee kind of loud at times. So from the listener’s side yea it is enjoyable and relaxing for us who have to play it though it i is a different story. Their is a lot of hard work that goes behind it and sometimes sweating and getting hot. Trying to keep on through exhausting movements and expression. These are things that people don’t see. Their are some things that people see but their a are so many things that people don’t see that we are doing behind that keyboard. Such as always staying in control. Little movements that will effect your playing reading the environment and trying to get that control correct so it is not just plunking down on a bench and pressing keys. Even anyone can press a key or make a sound out of the hardest instrument in the world but it is the way to play on it not just pressing a key and saying you are a pianist. It doesn’t work that way. Playing the piano menas lots of hard work and dedication. It doesn’t just come overnight like some people want instant gratification. Lots of hours and many days and weeks and months to perfect your understanding and then if you are playing a digital piano it is even more things you have to focus on. You have to have not only the understanding of a piano keyboard and how the piano is to bee played but you have to bee a one man band and orchestra. You have to have an understanding of how all musicians play. you have to emulate the sound of a guitar and make it sound like a guitar and so on and so on. It is not easy at all. If you play both types of pianos you have to know what you are in for. You need to bee able to have the brain to switch from one to the other. Before even playing a digital piano you have to have the understanding of how to play the piano first then a digital will make better sense to you cause you have not just the piano but you have all these other things you are dealing with and,,, the action between those two are not even the same. Even the play is totally different. Controlling an caustic is not the same as a digital or I mean vise versus. If you don’t have a clue how to play an acoustic piano, well a digital piano is not going to make any sense to you. You have to bee able to multi task a lot on a digital piano. Playing the piano using your technique pedaling and posture keeping both hands moving and changing voices or patches all at the same time and using drum fills while playing at the same time without stopping. So playing piano is rewarding once you know how to do it but it is for sure not the easiest task what so ever. Playing an acoustic piano and then having to play a digital is like speaking 2 different languages. You really have to learn how each piano works luckily,,,, I do play both. And even after all these years of playing piano as a pro at my craft, I can say that playing both of them are totally different and do not play nor feel the same. The way both play and the action and what you are feeling are totally different from each other. Acoustic pianos and digitals when you play them are totally different experiences and a totally different beast.
