I played Extinction first than bought Nexomon 1. I'd like to get Micromon as well, get the full story.
I think my biggest disappointment with extinction was the cores just being stat boosts. even a simple perk system would've done wonders. I believe that's being looked into for 3 though. Apart from that it's a game where where you just sink into the charm and simple gameplay, which makes it pretty enjoyable
Extinction is probably one of my favorite games of all time. Like a lot of other people, I've been disappointed with how pokemon has sort of stagnated. Extinction was like a breath of fresh air when I grabbed it on Switch, and now I've played through 3 times…3 and a half since I'm going through on my steam deck.
I love the art style, is very colorful and preety to look at. And the monster design is great imo.
I'm so hyped about Nexomon 3.I hope they improve combat, designs and story were great.I believe that the team can pull off the 3D openworld game without losing the charm of previous games.
It's a good game but not great. The problems come from the lack of in game Nexomon locations (pretty big mistake), a lack of map and a lack of balance and, as a french speaker, an atrocious translation with multiple typos PER dialogue, grammatical mistakes, words translated differently in menu and during fight, problem with special characters like é, è, ç and so on (they just appear as ? in text and are simply missing during the final cutscene). The story is overall pretty fun but it didn't shake up the pokemon formula that much from a gameplay perspective.
Yes
The short answer YES! the long answer YES YES YES!
There were only four minor things about Nexomon: Extinction that I didn't like too much.
1) Attack variety is lackluster, making most monsters of any type feel same-ish? Not a huge deal if you're playing the game for its story, which is super fun!
2) The core system is too basic for my liking. It's still a welcome addition, but I was hoping for something more exciting than flat stat boosts. Again, not a problem if you just want to experience the story!
3) Inconsistent shiny odds – this is not going to matter to 99% of you guys, but the more Nexomon you see and capture, the more your shiny odds will improve. I prefer hunting my shinies full odds (which in this game would be 1/4000) and that is flat-out impossible. It's not the end of the world either, but even Custom Mode does not allow you to fix your shiny odds, which is a bummer.
4) To the best of my knowledge, there is no such thing as a 'personality value' to make the monsters you catch truly 'unique'. If you catch the same monster twice at the same level, they may as well be clones, which feels weird. Once again, this doesn't affect the story in the slightest, but I'm hoping this will chance in Nexomon 3.
Otherwise, it's a fantastic game with excellent dialog. I'd recommend it to anyone who is even remotely into monster-taming games.
Yes. The answer is yes.
Extinction was so funny and epic at times. I enjoyed my ride! It's still worth it!
As someone that just recently got the game: I think yes. I enjoy it so far.
I like the story and enjoyed the humor, but I couldn't get into the combat, Nexomon needs more movement diversity, every nexomon feels like it has the same attacks and everything does the same but some moves hit harder, I feel like they should have abilities as well, I feel like there isn't much strategy aside from having better stats and hitting harder, but I didn't even finish it so idk
The only thing I have a problem with is the difficulty Amp up when your Tame level goes up high. I have not beat the game since last boss fight was hard since you have to do like 2 fights before the last boss without healing. Still a fun game.
The answer is all of them are still worth playing and I'd highly recommend playing them all in order to really appreciate them. I still think they're the best monster tamer games released.
Graphics, story, characters, and jokes are still amazing to this day. But I do have to admit the combat is very basic because of lack of depth in pool moveset. The runes gave a bit more customization but the movepool was so plain that every monster felt they only had different sprites and everything else about them was the same
Despite its simplicity, i far prefer this game to other monster taming games i've played recently. Coromon wasn't what i was expecting (i found the variety of types in that game incredibly lacking and unimaginative for a pokemon inspired game and I wasn't trhrilled at the rarity of getting Potent and Perfect mons), and Monster Sanctuary was great but I had the most fun with nexomon extinction. I only wish that there was a Special attack stat in it instead of condensing all offensive moves into one stat.
I love Extinction, I wish Nexomon 3 wasn't going to be in 3D, bc i'm worried i probably won't be able to play it if the pc requirements are anything like Palworld's (I was never interested in Palworld, i don't like survival type games). I wish they would have kept the art style like Nexomon Extinction's, bc then more people would be able to play them. I have yet to experience other recent monster taming games like Cassette Beasts and Anode Heart which i'm really interested in, i only have so much money for games so i'm waiting for sales/price drops, games are very expensive where I'm from, stupid Brazil) so if I ever need another fix of monster taming, i'm much more inclined to install Nexomon Extinction and go through it again, specially since I still have two achievements left to do in that game.
Yes I am playing right now 🤣
Played both! They are simple but entertaining.
Nexomon and Coromon are my favourite Pokémon-like after Pokémon and Digimon.
And Monster Sanctuary and Cassette Beasts are still on my list…
Absolutely still worth it Nexomon extinction is one of my favorite games of all times wish the battle system was more complex but it is what it is hopefully the third installment will fix that
I have both nexomon games on my switch as I bought em on sale
I played Nexomon Extinction both recently and as my first Nexomon, so I'd definitely say you're right that it holds up and that you don't need to play the first game beforehand.
This game is one of my favorites of Monster Taming games. I have went so far as having a "Living Dex" of every Nexomon. I Actually started a New Game+ with that collection, and even though I don't stay with it with long sessions, I've also decided to go with the goal of making all my Nexomon levels to the max cap, which is lv.99 here. Most Cores are just stat boost, except for Greed Cores, which increases the money you get, Exp. Cores to boost the experience gained in battles, and Synergy Cores, which is Nexomon's version of Pokémon's Exp. Share, but you got more control, and you need to create enough of these if you want it to apply to every member of the team minus the lead.
Nexomon Extinction was to me an great game with an honestly ridicoulus character set so for example Coco is actually pretty much rude and an breaking the 4th wall guy
I got the game from a recent Humble Bundle, and played through it entirely (didn't get achievements like 'beat every trainer twice', because no). Aside from some Cyber Sleuth, it was my first time playing any creature collector apart from Pokemon. Honestly, I was overall happy to play it. It had a little more variety with strategy because of the cores (though some may have wanted more customization), presentation was polished, the game would let me speed through parts if I wanted for grinding, and the story even made me laugh a few times, even with some more wrist-worn humor.
I would recommend it. I did enjoy myself throughout the experience. Granted, I haven't tried many other creature collectors, so I don't know if there are other ones worth your time.
I went into this with very little hope that it will be anything super amazing considering how dirt cheap the game is on Switch, it ended up becoming one of my favorites monster taming games as well, despite the flaws it has in combat and the core system. The art direction for me carried it into a top spot all by itself. Went back to play the mobile port of the first game, obviously not as fleshed out as Extinction, I mainly did for more story context in regards to the references used.
I am excited for the third installment, I'm personally a bit bitter that they went 3D with it because I just think that the 2D had way more charm and character but it's an understandable decision from the devs and what they have showed us thus far looks quite decent so I won't judge until I actually get to play it.
Giving it a try whilst I wait for Monster Hunter Stories this summer 🥹🙏
Oh i didnt know about the randomized moveset! Maybe i'll start a new file after all 🙂
Everything is really good: graphics, story, characters, MAPS especially. The only exception is the combat system, it's pretty much as shallow as it gets, but the game is still very enjoyable regardless
I know I'm probably the in the minority, but Nexomon just doesn't do it for me. I took a break from Nexomon and Extinction a few weeks ago because, honestly, they were slog fests. While not as bad as Pokemon Scarlet and Violet (a game I'm taking a break from, too), it still doesn't do it for me.
I want to like Nexomon, I really do. But I just don't seem to have much fun with it compared to Coromon, Cassette Beasts, and Monster Hunter Stories 2. Maybe my opinion will change when I start playing it again. But I won't even consider putting it into my "need to play soon" repertoire until I finish Code Vein and Scarlet Nexus.
Answer: Yes, very yes
I love Nexomon 1 and 2 and I look forward to Nexomon 3 even tho I'm a bit skeptical about the huge 3D Open World-Jump they make for it. (I feel a bit oversaturated with Open World-Games atm) But like you once said, if one can make the jump to 3D it would be Nexomon. So I'm optimistic.
Honestly, I played Nexomon: Extinction a few months ago and thoroughly enjoyed almost every moment of it! It was very fun and a definite improvement over the original (I mean to be fair the bar is not that high to be better than a mobile game lol)
My main gripes were with the awful catching gimmick needing quick time events, the portable PC being locked behind catching tens of Nexomon, and the Level curve. The biggest being the last. The level curve is basically scaled but I don't think people realize how annoying it is. People claim they want this all the time but don't understand how in reality, it makes raising Nexomon such a pain outside of battles because enemies will almost always be super high in levels. On a few occasions, my progress grinded to a halt because I accidentally was overleveled and wasn't prepared at all for a specific boss. Not as bad as the flinch spam in the first game that broke every enemy but still annoying.
Still a very fun game I'd recommend. Though I think to fully appreciate it playing 1 helps.
I really wish Youtube comments let you embed images, because I would've loved to reply to this question with a picture of Duktar's prevolution. XD
I feel that part of my strong attachment to this series stems from having experienced all 3 games sequentially. (Micromon —> Nexomon —> Nexomon Extinction)
Nexomon 1 had several callbacks to Micromon that I really appreciated, then Extinction did the same with Nexomon 1 and Micromon both. It really helped to expand the game’s universe and make me appreciate the gradual building of the lore, especially at one critical moment that I won’t spoil for anyone who hasn’t already played at least Extinction.
I never finished this game, final boss bugged out and killed my vibe for finishing.
I'd love to see a patch report on monster crown. I enjoyed it but it was full of glitches and the autosave made things worse
Can you please do a complete video on what to do after you finish the game????
just discover the serie, finish extinction and beginning the first, now i'm waiting for the 3
It's still boring combat with a decent story and some cool monster designs. The most important thing that it did was show why making every monster in a game equally as viable is bad. The only real way for them to reasonably balance that is to make them essentially the same monster but with a different skin. Truly a warning to all game devs of monster taking games.
Absolutely yes!. I adore this series. Extinction in particular has quickly become one of my favorite games of all time.
It was alright. Ended up putting it down due to the combat being pretty lackluster
Coco was an absolute highlight of extinction, the dry wit when the obvious tropes happen is always hilarious
I played the extinction 3 times and loved all those times and I’ll probably play it a 4th time eventually I’ve bought it on my pc,phone, handheld emulation device, and I got it on my switch and I bought it for my friend on steam
My irl friend refuses to play 2 cause of lv scaling
Outside of the art style (Which I'm just not a big fan of), the big thing that's kept me from playing this is the lack of diversity in Nexomon movepools. I'm sure I'd enjoy the game regardless, but I imagine that would kill some of the fun if you don't wanna do a randomizer on your first playthrough. Even worse is that, iirc, the first Nexomon game didn't have that issue. It's just a really weird change to make.
I ain't gonna comment on the story as I know literally nothing about it (Which is a good thing for when I eventually end up playing the game, cause I'd like to regardless of my criticisms). Lol.
ED can you make more nexomon content
