  1. I live in Western Colorado. To bad it wont be seen out here. I have to travel over 150 miles to my nearest theater in Denver to see it. I also heard that it will only appear for only 1 week in America.

  2. This movie left me absolutely SPEECHLESS. I was not expecting a Toho film to be as if it was made as a Hollywood blockbuster. This isn’t a kaiju film. It’s a REAL movie and quite honestly may be my new favorite Godzilla film. Hope Toho does more with the story they built in this film! 10/10!

  3. I loved this movie. My favorite movie of the year. I respectfully disagree with your assessment to the Ifukube’s score used. “Heroic” music (as discribed by your review) was used in heroic events. Shin Godzilla used Ifukube’s music to show scale. I thought the additional music was great as well. Music was used as a romantic modernist component perfectly in the movie. And boy was Godzilla a great monster! Can’t wait to see it again – in IMAX (as I saw it).

  4. I felt like the main character was a bit winey at times, but he was very broken and of a different culture. There were also a couple Deus ex machina moments that I didn't appreciate, along side a couple predictable plot points. Overall though, it was a very very good film. When Godzilla did his thing, it was absolutely devastating. A grounded Godzilla film like this is something I've been dying to see for a long time. It was a thought provoking film with a positive message.

  5. 10 Out of 10. Awesome movie. The CGI is fine, I grew up watching Godzilla movies with the man in the suit with the zipper showing. The stiffness in some scenes seemed to be a call back to the old movies. The movie explained well why the US did not get involved with the monster and I'm glad for it. In some scenes I got teary eyed getting invested with the characters. It's a must see movie.

  6. Idk if I’d be slammed for giving a spoiler away because I don’t think it is

But the famous tag line was never mentioned in the movie

“That Monster Will Never Forgive Us “

  7. Just saw it.Enjoyed it but would not put it in my top 5 but would make my top 10. Shin Godzilla was more eye opening as far as effects went but the story and characters in minus one were better. Going back to see it again tomorrow so like you going to reserve my final decision until after a couple of viewings.

  8. I just went to go see it in IMAX, and yeah what Alastair says in his review here is pretty much how I also felt about the movie. In addition though, I will say that I do like how the atomic breath blows up like an atomic bomb once it hits its target, but I however wish they also included the traditional use of his atomic breath, the one version like what we have seen in the older Godzilla movies. Both versions of the breath should have been used in this movie I feel: the nuclear explosion version that they did put in the movie, and the traditional version of the atomic breath they used in the majority of the older Godzilla movies but wasn’t used in this one. Both versions really should have been included in Godzilla Minus One.

As far as a rating goes? It’s hard for me to tell what I’d personally rate it. It’s like either a 7 or an 8 out of 10. Maybe 7.5 or something. I’m not sure. I probably could go ahead and give the movie an 8 out of 10.

  9. Just saw it yesterday at an IMAX and couldn't have been happier with the movie. I'll give the best Godzilla story to the original but Minus One was a close second and the best characters in a a Godzilla film to date. While the American made movies might have an edge in special effects, Godzilla is always best as a villain and in that role this is the best Godzilla ever and I'll rank this as my favorite in the series. Can't wait to see it again!

  10. The human elements were very well done. Reminded me of Train to Busan. It went hard for those sad moments and yeah, it got me with a tear or two escaping. Yeah, the CGI was the most vulnerable at slow moments. I did feel here was something missing. This movie did a lot with its budget, can only imagine how much further it could’ve been taken. I hate having to read subtitles so I’ll have to go back and watch it to truly take it all in

  11. Saw it in theaters tonight – it was AMAZING. As a G fan since I was a small lad back in the early 90s, this movie brought back so many nostalgic feels but with a completely fresh take on the story and the scope of his terror.

I love the Legendary movies, I loved every era of Godzilla until now, and this is a welcome intro to the newest era!

  12. About the US military presence:It didn’t materialize overnight. It took about a year and a half to recruit new troops, relocate those tying up loose ends in the Pacific and build supply lines to support the troops. Americans start disembarking en masse in 1947. The US kept negotiating for more and more space for bases. This is actually part of the plot for Honda’s The Mysterians where the aliens keep increasing their demand for more land to build their bases.

  13. SPOILER ALERT: ok so…. when my son was growing up he shared my taste for the beautiful flying machines with props from yesteryear… so 15 years ago(cant remember what game system) we were really into this WW2 dogfighting wargame…we played the heck outta the game to get 3 acft to unlock to use in the game…the NUMBER ONE fighter we wanted to unlock was that very SAME SHINDEN fighter in the movie….super stoked when i saw that, even more the mechanics' awesome reaction to seeing it. I dont believe the shinden ever got used because the war ended, it was still in research and development… was created to be dogfighting champ due to its agility. Any ways brought back memories with my son long ago!
