Without Tahj the run game averaged 5.5ypc. Did the running game really suffer?
The more BS excuses I hear from the coaching staff, the more disgusted I get. Why are all the offensive coaches coming up with these BS excuses to cover for Kittley’s ineptitude? Did Kirby hand pick Kittley and is now threatening the staff with their jobs if they tell the truth and make him (Kirby) look stupid again?
Tahj is a winner it rubs off. If Tahj cannot go and maybe if he can Cam Brown needs run it 10 times behind 3 tight ends . At Wash State he had just 5 rushes and got 70 yards. Come on Lets go!
The more Reps the #2s get, the better they get. Timing, speed, confidence, etc.
“This (Tech) is a well coached program” – E Morris
😂😂😂 Thanks for the good laugh Eric.
We are in year three of this offense and if it's going to crumble from the absence of one player, no matter how good, that is a problem.
A balanced offensive attack is always best.
No mention of the infamous nickname "The Elf" for Eric Morris…
I had a friend who was an extra in "Unnecessary Roughness." Kathy Ireland was great to look at, but actually only kicked (dribbled) the ball a few feet after each take… still better than Sinbad 😉
Excuse me Mr Level, but Sinbad was a defensive end not tight end…
"Andre don't eat meat cause Andre is a vegetarian!"
"Eat whatever the hell you want Andre."
If Tech ever finds themselves needing a new head coach…maybe they should look at Eric Morris as a potential candidate. It's worked out well so far with the other head coach we got from UNT.
Hopefully Kittley’s play calls change early. I feel like these past years his play calling has changed more from what we see now, but it happens in the middle of the szn. Not in the beginning when we need these crucial wins at the start of the szn. With Tahj maybe we see a more balanced attack, but it’s Kittley…
Great job fellows! Love the levity
No. Tech is not dependent on one running back. Despite Tech's long history of producing Heisman winning RBs (Jim Brown, Earl Campbel, Adrian Peterson, Sproles, etc), Tech's fantastic coaching staffs have allowed Tech to be more than just Running-Back U. Frankly, this absence and Tech's great successes this season might help Brooks realize he's not the only great player on this team. Less pressure, viewing the bigger picture – and I understand concessions are a lot better on the sidelines;. Wait'll he tries 'em in the stands!
Fumblaya! Fumblerooski! One of Rob Schneider's best roles. 😄 Morris said Tharp is a great red zone target. Did you hear that Kittley?! Shoot, he's just a great target anywhere. Did you hear that Kittley?! Their right side of the OL couldn't find playing time at Tech, as cruddy as Tech's OL has been during that time. Our DL needs to get after them. Morris said strange things happen in night games in Pullman. I can remember when that used to be said about Lubbock. Sigh.
Tahj playing in this game would for sure tip the scales to a blow out win. Again do we need Tahj this game to win? No. Does he drastically increase our odds to stacking up points against North Texas? Yep. If Tahj needs healing heal him up this game. I dont know his situation. We could put Tahj in at the beginning get this offense steam rolling, points on the board, momentum, energy, ect. and then start to shut Tahj down and let Valdez, Dickey, Jkoby have some fun. Play makers dont have to be big. Play makers just have to be a baller. Just ask Jakeem Grant.
If Cam Brown can operate in the passing game, this is a game he would thrive in and destroy UNT. If Brown can pass I can see him going off for 100+ yards on the ground and at least 250+ yards passing with loads of TDs. This game will be steam rolled in the low to medium range vs UNT. Complete a few long balls to keep UNT honest. When Tech gets steam rolling the low to medium range there is no stopping us vs UNT.
I had been preaching all summer long for Morton to use his wheels. Or put in a QB who can pass and run. As a DC on UNT looking at this game, I would rather face Morton than Brown ( if Brown can pass ). Shutting down Morton as a DC is easy to me and with the play calling I see from Zach. If Morton started using his wheels I would be on high alert as a DC. With Morton running trucking 3 defenders is not his style of running. Just pick up the yards and the first downs get down or out of bounds say thank you very much for the yards and get back to the huddle and get ready for the next play all the way to the TD.
A QB successfully running and passing on a defense is a nightmare. We need one of those QBs.
Can Cam Brown operate in the passing game against Arizona State? We could find out against North Texas. If he can we may need to think about switching it up at the QB position. If Cam Brown cannot operate in the pass game we stick with giving Morton the reps. The unfortunate part is I dont know how Brown operates in the pass game. If he cant pass then I would start getting Will Hammond reps in this North Texas game when we are up big against UNT to get a visual of what he can do at the QB position in case any changes need to be made at the QB position. If Brown cant operate the pass game then we could use him as a weapon else where on the field. If he can operate the pass game we may need to look to give Brown a shot.
This is an interesting spot because I could see Brown destroying UNT if he can pass, with his run game and pass game. But if he cant operate in the pass game vs higher levels of competition then Morton or Hammond would have to be the way to go.
We open up Mortons wheels or we are a sinking ship with Morton. Now that does open up window for injury. Every pass play is an injury situation. Ive been long over the Morton injury discussion. Play or dont play. This babying Morton and his injury prone self has a lot to do with our situation on offense. Compound it with an OC who is trying to figure this thing out… We play Morton safe we lose. If Morton gets injured he gets injured im tired of it. Put Brown in then. I cannot believe what is going on on offense. Morton has to be smart with the wheels. We either die a slow death with how Morton is playing right now or we go on the offensive. Which one? Defending Morton at QB with this OCs play calling is easy money as an opposing DC right now. I will not explain how to shut Texas Techs offense down because I know opposing teams scour the internet for information leading up to games. If im Texas Tech I would have a social media team scouring the internet for any and all information that would help to win our next football game. It is amazing some of the information thats put out there before games. Some things I wouldnt say as a coach.
On defense in this game its no mercy. Tim will dominate in this game. Player per player we are superior to UNT. Tim now that our defense is sound in the fundamentals. Sound in pass play and now will be sound in run play after watching video. The plays where there to be made. The play will be here to be made vs UNT. You should now start to get more creative with the defense. For example if your going to play a 3-3-5 on a down, disguise the formation by putting the 3rd LB on the line to show 4-3-5 then right before the snap or right after the snap drop that 3rd LB on the line showing a 4 man front back into position. It can confuse the QB. Bring a safety up into the box and drop a LB back into the middle of the field in coverage. Again this can confuse the QB. Show blitz and drop and into coverage. Show no blitz and blitz. More smoke and mirrors. More disguise. More head games with QB. Our defense is on our way to becoming a unit to be wreckoned with.
On offense pound the low to medium range in both the pass and run game. Keep UNT honest with completions over the top. Switch it or swap it depending on the opposing DCs calls. We know how it goes. The cat and mouse game. We are the cat in this game. Everyone should be having a field day getting touches and making big plays on offense. My dilemma is I would use Cam Brown at QB to crush UNT. But can he pass vs B12 competition? If he cant then we would be taking reps away from Morton and thats not good. If Cam Brown can pass we might have a QB competition on our hands. I personally want to see what Brown and Hammond can do. It just sucks I have no faith in our OC. Im over our OC and starting to get over Morton. It would be nice to have been able to see both Brown and Hammond the entire offseason this year to be able to make decisions. Changes need to be made all over the offense for us to have a shot at anything.
Ah the Sinbad memories 🤣
I havent seen Eric Morris on video talking much up to this point. That is one solid good dude. Maybe if his offense has evolved and is better he could be a possible candidate for the next Tech OC? I will be honest I was not a fan of Eric Morris's play calls when he was the OC at Tech but that was years ago. I would have to watch more videos on Morris. This up coming game is a good start.
I also like Lawrence Schovanec after having seen him talk on video a few weeks ago. It is super important we have good people in positions making decisions.
Lets have fun against UNT 👆
Awesome thumbnail by the way. Good shows fellas. Really enjoy the laughs and the good info
I'd hate to risk Brooks against North Texas. And… well… if Brooks is the only reason Tech beats North Texas, is that a moral loss anyway? The football gods will NOT be appeased by such a slim distinction.
Auburn BO Jackson would look average behind our current O line
I feel less confident about Tech winning this game. Don't let the North Texas name fool you. They have guys who have played at big time programs that transferred in. They're more than capable of getting a win in Lubbock.
Chandler Morris was the original starter at TCU in 2022 and 2023 but dealt with injuries in both seasons. With Tech's injuries and youth on defense this game can be very tricky for Tech.
I need to rewatch necessary roughness
G.J Kinny
Barry Odem
You think Josh Mateer was 💩🔥? Wait til you see Chandler Morris in action.
Wonder if we can keep UNT from at least setting a few school records at Tech's expense.
I love your show and I love that Emo is back in town; however, not having Brooks was a minor issue. We have 1 sack and 6 QBH in 2 games, and 1 was a FCS opponent at home. That means we only bothered opposing QBs 7 times in 70 attempts. The lone sack was halfway through the 4th qtr when we were getting blown out. Our complete lack of pass rush is far and away our biggest problem. I'd like to see the 3 true FR OLB/EDGE guys get in the game against UNT and see what they can do.
I have met Eric a few times and, to be blunt, he never seemed like the head coaching type. He was somewhat soft spoken and reserved but definitely a genuine guy. I'm happy for his success and wish him all the best except for this weekend.
According to the fans it Micha Hudson or bust.
True, the backups aren't Tahj, but they were still averaging almost 6 yards a carry before completely abandoning the run against Wazzu.
Lmao…. He bought you a beer!!! 🤣🤣🤣
What happened to all this depth talk.. power catching group . Qb arm strength, the genius Oc ? Ridiculous brooks is their excuse next man up coach em up. I love the beast brooks but stop with the excuses.. or stop the original kool aid lies
I drank the Kool-Aid. Again. Now I am going to need to see some results.
Go watch north Texas vs SFA. They run offense like old tech, except they have young qb. He makes some nice throws but overall the execution is all over the place. They have many of the problems Tech has and I think it will come down to athletes. Tech wins 45-35
