Jaiden Animations made a video discussing her thoughts on Digimon World: Dawn and Dusk and basically came out saying she hated the game lol. Today I want to explore whether or not the game is actually that bad. @Jaiden Animations @Jaiden

While i prefer Dusk and Dawn, i do think, for a newcomer to digimon Digimon Ds is definitely better, as it actually explains all the important stuff better.
I think Jaiden problem with this game is not "the mechanics is confusing" but with the story and the navigation is confusing,
Story problem, 40 minutes of gameplay and don't explain anything to the player about the world, the characters or the digimons, it's not that bad for us because isn't the first digimon contact for us but for someone like Jaiden, don't watched the anime or even know digimon can talk, this probably a very confusing experience. (She still wants to know what f*ck is a Digimon lol)
About navigation, just for this video, the first area looks just simple, empty and lifeless, this is just bad game design and don't help the player to create a memorable experience.
I think a lot of how people feel about this game is a bit of a litmus test for whether or not people actually like JRPG mechanics. The majority of vocal gamers in the West, especially on youtube channels and such, really don't like JRPGs and their mechanics. There are admittedly very tedious parts of these games, but for those familiar with the genre, mazes+grinding is kind of the core JRPG experience going as far back as Dragon Quest 1 where JRPGs all began.
What Digimon Dawn demonstrates to me, at least, is that most people who play Pokemon do so for the monster designs rather than the game mechanics themselves. This is why Legends: Arceus was so popular, I think: most people actually hate turn-based JRPG combat, and that game provided an alternative for most of the game.
So, Digimon Dawn isn't really a bad game, it's a fairly average JRPG speaking in the broader context of video games. But if you hate grinding and classic maze-like dungeon design, then of course it would seem like a bad game if you're used to more action-based western game design.
This game really is good. It's not perfect, but most of Jaiden's flaws are strong points for me. The digimon list is long, the environments are colorful and I like the mazes as they are. My favorite thing is definitely the music. Even if Jaiden didnt like it, it is legitimately a decent game. Most Digimon games are.
That said, very excited for the remake project!
Digimon dawn and dusk the learning curve is pretty light heck you can power thur the game with your favorite digimon because that farm system and grinding can be done easily and with little to no mental stress heck I watched tv and anime while grinding so easy
Digimon world Dawn and Dusk are the best digimon games ever made and we need a remake of these games and digimon world 3
🙂
Attributes and Elements work differently in this game. The elements or types are Holy, Dark, Beast, Machine, Aquatic, Insectplant, Bird, and Dragon and they don't affect each other. Attributes are Physical, Fire, Light, Dark, Wind, Water, and Thunder and they have are strong and weak against certain types. The (Vaccine>Virus>Data)<Free isn't in this game.
The thing that i can't stand about this game is that I can't see my digimon in battle, only my opponents. You train so hard your monsters to make them look big, scary and strong and then you can only see your enemies in fights, attacks animations are also not that good…
I haven't play this one but from the looks of it the gameplay isn't too much different from World DS and Lost Evolution, which isn't too bad but isn't the best either. But from the review from Jaiden I think it start off expecting the player must've known quite a chunk of Digimon and how it throw so much at player at beginning make it not good for newcomers.
I remember the grinding in the game wasnt too bad once I figured out how to properly decrease and de-evolve often and try to focus on my EXP. Then I focused on like screen nukes for people just to slam the A button when bored lol
Dusk is the better version imo!
Definitely want to see more
the worst things about the DS Digimon games is that they are overly Grindy and that they were made so fast from the original game that a item from the original game shows up as a win item but doesn't exist in the inventory I think someone did state it was a dummy item
digimon anime is terrible
The answer is yes, it has way too many mechanics that straight up make it detremental to having fun, like an unnecessary level limit that forces you to evolve backwards and make yourself weaker, forcing you to grind, and when you're forced to grind, that's always a bad thing and this game forces you to do it more than most RPG games.
Itll be cool if you try fossil fighters loved playing that game and just got it again on melon DS
Please do part 2 and make a series out of it.
14:03 these 3 words in this context just summarize the entirety of digi/pokemon designs so well for me lol
Jaidens points kinda felt like “This doesn’t play like Pokémon and I expected Digimon to play like Pokémon so game bad”
I like Jaiden Animations but it really felt like she went in way to harsh on this game
