Pokemon will likely never be he same for better or for worse and I think it’s about time we talked about it.

Yo nice
Depending on how SV turn out, I would probably deem PLA- Onward has the potential renaissance-era.
Pokemon seems to be shedding its cocoon and finally going in a much-needed Direction.
Open world can give players a lot more freedom and certain things that were issues with the more linear 3D games will now be problems of the past.
After the changes legends came with I don't think I can go back. Unless Pokemon does what octopath did like 2d 3d etc.
Ayyy!! Im early
Yeah it is sad that linear pokemon games are not gonna be made in the near future.
I like the new direction Arceus took the series. I want more games in the future to be like that one.
But I don't wanna see Classic Pokémon die outright either.
But the occasional break from it now and then to do something new (like with Arceus) is always nice to see.
Instead of killing classic Pokémon entirely, they should give it a break or reserve it for just remakes of older games.
It's not good to stay trapped in the past, but returning to it now and then is nice.
Maybe they could take a page from Digimon's book.
Digimon has both World and Story as their two main series.
So Pokémon could have both Classic styled games and Legends styled games hand in hand going forward.
I wished we saw a game about the Pokemon ideas pre-Red/Green: tamers with whips instead of trainers, a more mature story, beasts of burden rather than friends, ect. The whole approach was so much more interesting before devolving into the franchise we know today.
Pokemon for me began to lose my interest in the Sun/Moon era. Maybe even slightly before that with ORAS and the absent Battle Tower which they shamefully teased on that breeding island.
The games got too hand-holdy in Sun/Moon, and overall they felt like they no longer could match previous expectations. The move to 3-D might have caused that decrease in perceived quality as well, together with the fact that maybe I got sick of the constant '2 versions' thing. I never ended up buying Ultra Sun/Moon, even though I had bought and played all other main-line pokemon games.
And now here I am… looking at Coromon, and seeing a glimmer of what I loved in the past. The art-style looks amazing, and 'precicely' what I'm looking for. All I can hope for now, is that the game from this little indie team from my own country, is as fun as I hope it is. I've barely seen anything yet, cause I've only played the demo till I reached Hayville, but the stuff that I did see brought me a lot of hope.
Just like Pokemon and Coromon monsters, games evolve. Sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse. But it always ends up as a clash of preferences. Some might love where the Pokemon games are going, while others wish to go back to the older days. But luckily… with more Monster-capture games being created, there hopefully is something for everyone. ^w^
My biggest gripe with older Pokemon games when playing casually is because the games are so linear and you have very little freedom with your monster team. Certain monsters come at certain points that are way too late or inconvenient to obtain.
Shin Megami Tensei 5 doesn't really have this issue because of the fusion system, New Game Plus and postgame items that let you turn any demon you want into powerhouses give you way more freedom even with eventually using common low tier monsters in a playthrough.
Digimon doesn't really have this issue despite being linear because how anything can branch evolve up and down into almost anything and also because of New Game Plus.
Yo-Kai Watch doesn't have this issue because maps are so huge and open, getting Rare S Rank monsters you like relatively early doesn't make the game any easier cuz level growth is actually balanced around that and the games are so monumentally full of fat, juicy postgame content that there's always things that you can do for hours and hours and hours even after you beat the story while Pokemon postgame is puny by comparison.
Even newer Pokemon games like Sword and Shield still have this problem as they make things like Cramorant having stupidly low random encounter rate and being obtainable only super late game despite it not even being that rare or strong of a monster.
As trash as Let's Go is and while I'm still not that impressed with Legends Arceus from playing it so far, that issue seems way less prevalent because of all encounters being overworld while SWSH still uses alot of random encounters that everyone hated.
i'd definitively would love to see a Big Pokemom game with all the regions where you can fight all the gym leaders.
Yeah i know it wont happen, but that would be great
0:12 at least you were making some bread 🍞
Pokémon should try something like time travel but not like sun/moon, what I mean is like having what we have now in the newer games but maybe being able to have a postgame or a major mechanic that allows us to go back into the “past” with pixel graphics and what it allows is a way that we capture the old school Pokémon and when you bring them back, they have the 3d models. What do y’all think.
That's why I like fangames; outside of the limitless creativity part, I get to re-experience my love for the gen1-5 era of tight-route games. I also was never one to shout for open world and I prefer pixel to 3D models. You're right, I'll never get that again, so back to fangaming then.
ROM hacks keep the classic games alive for me.
The Pokemon formula isn't really the reason it died, its the ease of play and handholding, before it could be carried by novelty and discovery but its become so samey even that is boring. I think it had its time in the sun and then some, its about time it evolved to open world and more interesting systems.
Pokemon will never really be my 1# franchise simply because its too corporate, it will always have that PG tone and never take too many risks, its too tied to profit and short release cycles to keep up with merchandise. Now that SMT seems to be thriving I'm much more excited for how it develops than whatever Pokemon is doing.
Also big props for doing this with a full time job, hectic stuff, please remember to rest, don't wanna burn out.
