Is China’s High-Tech ‘Overproduction’ Killing Jobs In The West? | When Titans Clash | Full Episode

Some EU and US leaders have accused China of overcapacity, and dumping electric vehicles, solar panels, and batteries on the global market, at artificially low prices. The fear is that this will lead US & EU companies to go bust. China has hit back, saying that there is no overcapacity in its 3 clean tech industries, and accusing some of these countries of being protectionist.

Who is right? Are we about to see a trade war erupt between EU and China, similar to what we had seen between the US and China?

  1. America has an overcapacity on agriculture products.

Their country can consume this overcapacity, so they dump it around the world cheaply.

China should put a 100% tariff on US agriculture products.

  2. Eh, I don't think heavily subsidized Chinese steel or tech companies are cheating any more than the equally highly subsidized American agricultural industry is. That said, China whining about protectionism is so hilariously ironic and hypocritical I almost respect the incredible scale of their double standards

  3. It's convenient for politicians to blame someone else than their own people whom they hope will elect them. The problem with this approach is that they are not addressing the root cause of their business uncompetitiveness. Taxing imports is like blaming someone by punishing their own people. The root cause must be addressed.

  4. The US and the Europeans may put up trade barriers now to stem the economic tide, but like King Canute, they will find that they don’t command the tides. The tariffs are an admission of defeat.

  5. Haven't your capitalists cut enough leeks in China with their luxury goods? Those people fattened their own pockets but didn't share the wealth with the lower class people. Now you populist politicians only blame China for making things too cheap, causing your factories to close down and workers to lose their jobs?

You guys are just fooling your innocent citizens !

The Chinese have survived five thousand years of all kinds of social pressure and are the most flexible people in the world. The greater the external pressure, the more power and creativity will emerge, and eventually most of your enterprises that depend on human power will vanish.

Unless you government directly wage a war against China and push us back to the last century. Unfortunately, that's unlikely to happen . Because in your society, there are too many people who make a living and get rich by cheap products that no one can make as good as China.

  6. If you support the God leaders of the Chinese Communist Party, Authoritarianism, religious oppression, no free speech, then do nothing and support China's overproduction. The Chinese economy is only a tool used by the CCP to achieve its neo-imperialistic goals.

  7. 800 million chinese lifted out of poverty…at what cost?
for every 4 chinese employed means someone from the u.s.a., canada, japan, australia, new zealand and europe lost their job.
thats roughly around 200 million people world wide; give or take.

  8. There's no such thing as "overcapacity", it is supply and demand. If there is no demans, they wont make things at a lost.

They are just afraid of farce competitions especially with the high tech that used to be dominant by Western companies.

Was there ever an overcapacity with western brand when they dominate in China such as Starbuck open 1 store everyday in China or how the big 3 car companies making records profits and sell more in China than the US?

  10. It's all about greedy entrepreneurs and unequal wealth distribution in the West. Cheap Chinese products have actually helped the West especially the US, to suppress their inflation since the late 90s. Without Chinese made products, a toothbrush would prolly cost ten bucks a stick now.

  11. 产能是市场决定的,哪来的过剩只说?过剩只会导致厂商商品积压,吃亏的是厂家,如果你的商品缺乏竞争性而倒闭,这就是市场淘汰体质

  12. The elephant in the room is Country A wants to remain front and center of the world and Country B is catching up so A is throwing a tantrum thinking that others will come to its defense. No way. Country B has a right to produce according to its skills, capacity and production and A is only jealous because it is being overrun. If it was Country A that had an overcapacity No one could dare tell it to reduce its manufacturing capacity. This is pure colonial arrogance. At the same time, Country A has an overproduction in food, which it uses as a weapon of coercive diplomacy to economically and politically subordinate nations for its own exploitative measures. Country B doesn't to sell to Country A or C, but the rest of the world has 8 billion in population so Country A cannot decide that the majority doesn't have to buy the products of Country B. Or could Country A be saying that its only its own society that has purchasing power and that the rest of the 8 billion do not need to improve their lives therefore they don't need the products of country B. Janet Yellen dares to make decisions for 8 billion people in the world that would want to purchase Chinese products so how can she say that Beijing has an overcapacity. Yellen also made a false economic statement because Chinese products are absorbed by the market and they do not have an overstock. As a matter, Americans are beginning to see a shortage of products which were from china not on the stock shelves any more

  13. If China is able to make high tech goods and services cheap, then it is the consumers who will benefit at the end. Life is already hard enough for most people around the world, some struggle with paying monthly bills, some with bank mortgage and sometimes even foods, medical bills or even children's school fees. I will say cheaper Chinese high-tech goods and services is making everyday people's life much easier. As such I welcome Chinese overcapacity, if the American and EU companies refuse to make their goods cheaper, then why should we care if their company bankrupt or not.

  15. Soon US will blame China too rich or blame China too smart too. In the past they blame China for global warming. China now use ev car more than the rest other countries. Now US blame China over capacity. Come to an end when US cant bet they blame others for their failure. No shame amd gruel plus using their power to control others. Very obvious when prining too much money and cant pay their debts plus inflation. US had never blame their wrong doing. US cheap money as a reserve currency around the world. Inflation has never in US mind for the money caused all these to alot of the countries.
