I have no idea how you can possibly claim that "they killed the esports not the game".
Back then they announced not only that they would be shutting down the esports scene, but also that there would be no more new heroes, maps, gamemodes, and such. Which means killing a game like a moba. Killing the interest in it, killing the prospects of players that are invested, killing the variety.
The game was killed in 2018. That's just how it is. It was the saddest day of my gaming-life.
