As many of you know I’ve recently started Patreon, a subscription-based service that helps out the channel and in return gets you early, commercial-free access to weekly episodes, behind the scenes and full access to the #IronDuke Kenworth cabover build: https://www.patreon.com/m/twinstickgarage
Special thanks to all the folks who have signed up so far!

Now as I’ve mentioned, I do plan provide the occasional Iron Duke update episode on YouTube for everyone to enjoy and once again this is one of those weeks …

Picking up where I left off with last week’s episode, I continue cleaning up the frame before my friend Blake (FlyWeldFabricate on YouTube) arrives to weld this mess together. Blake then proved to me a simple circular saw with a wood blade can cut through a semi-truck frame and do a darn nice job at it. Once both ends were cut, Blake beveled the edges and then we moved the cutoff into place as we were both eager to start welding. However, in typical TwinStick fashion, I had the wrong tool for the right job and the plug on the wall didn’t match Blake’s fancy MIG welder. So after running to Home Depot for a different plug, we were finally able to power up. We used a stringline, one of the oldest tricks in the book, to line everything up and it took a little doing with the gantry and the porta power but once straight, Blake started welding … man is he ever a pro. He let me try my hand at it but we both quickly realized my skills fall way short of the task. IN the end we got it welded together and I couldn’t be happier.

Hope you enjoy the video and thanks for all the comments, suggestions, and support!

Keep in mind, I know a little about a lot but not an expert in anything … just doing the best I can, learning as I go … I do all my own stunts

Subscribe for notifications for future episodes that I do my best to upload new videos weekly on Thursdays.

  1. Love and appreciate every episode Mark. Really not a fan of the crazy long frame stretch that’s so popular now but always learn something from your videos. Keep up the great work!

  3. Carbide isn't ideal for cutting aluminum. A little WD40 would have helped cutting aluminum. Even diesel fuel works as a cutting fluid for aluminum. It also helps when drilling. Keep up the good fight.

  5. Why in the world would you mig weld an aluminum frame you could have easily TIG welded it and had a much cleaner weld which also has much better structural integrity most aluminum truck frames are made from 6061 T6 aluminum alloy so you better use a 60 series filler rod for welding it. I am an AWS certified welder and you don't depend on aluminum mig for strength especially on a butt joint. Here's another hint for you all you don't use string line in metalwork you use straight edges a piece of 3 by 3 aluminum angle would be much straighter than any string line. And while we're at it you guys need to learn how to use a deepthroat Porta band saw instead of putting your limb and life in danger using a wood circular blade definitely not a safe procedure. And if you think I'm wrong check with any welding teacher and I guarantee he'll say the same thing. The DOT would never pass that repair and I believe it's against the law to weld any truck frame steel or aluminum!

  6. If you watched Pakistanees doing the same by cutting the tip of the bolts by hidding the cutter on the tip of the bolts
You can extend the rail by make them in side each other then screws them butter than cutting 45 degrees.

  9. Very interesting how he is taking good care to create and finish off a very good weld of the frame.
I know you will be adding a plate on the inside when you bolt up that mount.
My question is why was the inside of the frame not welded up.
Is it not needed since you will be doing a sandwich bolt up job?
To me if the inside is welded up and bolted up then that section would become a super structure to be plenty strong and the stress cracking will not happen
But what do I know about welding, but the job he did looks great.
