Internet reacts as Luigi Mangione is charged with murder in New York

A new poll found that 41% of people aged 18 to 29 think the killing of the UnitedHealthcare CEO was either “somewhat or completely acceptable.” And that sentiment has echoed across social media. Sam Adler-Bell, co-host of the “Know Your Enemy” podcast, joins Chris Hayes to discuss.

  1. I noticed MSNBC (and other mainstream news) didn't bother to CHALLENGE the idea that Luigi was somehow 'fighting for the uninsured/underinsured' – he's from a WEALTHY family, was injured while SURFING, was NOT a United Healthcare subscriber, WAS able to undergo a (presumably expensive) spinal procedure, and was NOT (to my knowledge) denied coverage for anything. You guys ever gonna bother discussing these things? Or are you gonna try and make 'news channels' more and more like 'social media'? (Nice glasses though)

The CEO of UHC didn't personally deny anybody. It isn't his job.

@Ian-l9n9b Then you have not read his background. He personally helped develop and implement the algorithmic program which denies category conditions as cost-saving measures, fostering company profits. When member complaints and lawsuits reached his desk, he fought them.

  3. Jessica Mangione: Take your Sentiments from the Old USA and stuff it. Luigi basically sacrificed himself for The People. The guy was a 1000s of Humans Murderer and Jessica, you did NOTHING ABOUT THEM.🤬

  4. In NYC, it’s okay to play with guns and joke about people dying, but now they demand it’s not okay?

When did this ferocious stance come about? Last time I checked, y’all flew airplanes into your own buildings in order to collect cellphone records from all Americans? Hypocritical behavior to the maximum.

  5. At this point if you’re sick and poor stick to Medicaid, if you’re sick and middle class and have assets to protect start looking at international options. What mainstream media needs to stop doing is scolding people for how they feel.

  6. Media manipulation detected: when telling you that 41 percent of young people approve of Luigis actions they want to make it sounds like the majority is against Luigi. But it's the minority PLUS NON-RESPONDERS that make up the other 59 percent…
