“Somatic Interactive Xi’an Drumming Terracotta” is an interactive art installation that combines traditional cultural elements and modern art technology. Inspired by the Chinese traditional drumming ensemble, it is presented on a screen and uses a Kinect sensor to capture the audience’s physical data, enabling them to interact with the on-screen drumming ensemble.
The drumming ensemble is one of the traditional Chinese percussion performance forms, which can be traced back to the Ming Dynasty. In ancient times, drumming ensemble was an important celebration and ritual activity, and performances were meant to pray for divine blessings for peace and a good harvest. By bringing the drumming ensemble performance into an interactive art installation, the work preserves and interprets traditional culture through modern technology, allowing the audience to experience the charm of traditional culture through physical interaction.
