Integrated Pest Management Beginnings make the journey into IPM simple.
Henry and Irene have been living off grid full time since 2005 on a 43 acre off grid homestead in the high desert of Northern Arizona. Situated at 5280′ elevation, we enjoy four seasons of beautiful scenery and weather about 60 miles south of the Grand Canyon.
We grow most of our green beans, peppers, yellow beans, tomatoes, onions, cucumbers, squash, garlic, and herbs. Specialty crops like asparagus, sun chokes, and lavender are supplemented by foraged foods including wild ground cherries, prickly pear, and other native plants.
Electricity is made using solar panels and one 400W wind generator. We power our buildings in two groups: Irene’s studio by itself, and house infrastructure: house, greenhouse, and workshops.
Thanks for joining us on our continuing journey.
Take care.

In the fall under my pine and balsam tree and cedar anyway we get these tiny little flying bugs
They are bluish white very puffy…if you try to catch them you squish them
I call them fairys lol people think im nuts but thats what i think a fairy should look like lol
Well i posted a video last year and most people who know thier bugs said aphid lol
They are still cute but I learned that aphids like certin trees then can move to your plants in their life cycle
When they don't have wings they like my elm leaved maple trees especially the young tender shoots
So i pick the shoots off and feed them to my rabbits lol they don't mind bugs on their leaves and stems lol
Wow that is super early ..makes me wonder what the rest of the season will bring lol. Have a great day and take care
Friends, sometimes I have difficulty to hear everything due to not being English so what is the advantage of Lady bugs? did they eat other un-wanted pests
Preached how to control aphids and white fly for years. Even done a video showing what happens when you wait to long and get a mass infestation on how to cure it. Then the next two years I showed how to control them before they come. Once again true experience means nothing as all my how to videos went no where but yet I see so many show the wrong info to get thousands to hundred of thousands views. Big difference when you hear someone say I done a lot of research online to find a cure means no experience but yet when a true experienced gardener shows hands on from years of dealing with pest means nothing. Can ya tell I have about had it with this YT game promoting false or no experience channels while they put a real experienced gardener channel on the back burner. Stay safe my friends and have a great day!
Thinking about bugs gives me the chills. Don't know how you guys do it
I like to be more humane with bugs but sometimes is hard
Never really had a problem with aphids!! Mine is that pesky green caterpillar from the white cabbage moth butterfly!! It has affected everything I plant!! Grrr!!
Pests there so much of them
I usually use blue Dawn dish soap, a bit of baking soda and water to control bugs. I've also just hosed the critters off of the plants. Worst infestations I have had have been okra, iris and roses. Not every year, thank heaven. I think I should go check my irises for bugs now… Y'all take care. 🌻
hate bugs during the spring
Good Chat… I don't think we have ever had Aphids… Maybe the cold winter helps… We have a ton of squash bugs… I hold a cup with soapy water in it under the leave and touch the bug, it falls in the cup… What do you guys have for pollinators? My neighbor keeps bees so we get many in our garden… It was a bad winter for bees. Lots of winter kill. Good luck with your pests…
We used to spray pesticides in my dad's farm I'm sure there are better ways to approach it. Love the chat
I need to do some spraying in the soil outdoors. Great information! I need to look for ladybugs as well. Didn’t know that there were that many aphids.
So much knowledge just for big control. Thanks for sharing
