How many first team reps did Purdy get before coming in last year??? You are a Trey Lance fan boy, and I can get that. San Fran gave up a lot to get him. With that said he gift wrapped 2 dropped interceptions after his pick. One was for the 2 point conversion the other would have ended the game had it not been dropped. Now for Grant, you are the most inconsistent analyst I seen in a long time. Had that been Jimmy with that comeback you would have picked him apart saying he made bad decisions and threw a pick and almost 2 more that would have ended the game. You would have bad mouthed him and led the charge to get him out of town just like you are doing to Sam Darnold. Lance does need more development which is awesome but he is not ready just yet I hope he will be soon because I am not fully sold on Brock Purdy.
Lance hasnt played because of injury the last 2 seasons. Is he durable? Who knows, 1 game doesn't make a legacy, i hope for the best with him, but he needs to stay healthy in order to earn the starting qb spot.
Imagine if we had traded a bunch to take a RT in the top 5. This guy had very limited experience, but you felt he had a lot of potential. You decide to sit him his first year to "season" him, but he is forced to play a couple of games, looks OK to good at times but gets injured. Year 2, you make him the starter. His first start is in a monsoon and he doesn't look too good. In his second game, you call a tackle-eligible play to him, and he breaks his ankle. For year 3, would the Niners relegate this guy to fighting for the RT2 spot? Would they rarely ever let him practice with the starters? Would they abandon a high-value prospect because he got hurt before (setting aside any culpability by Kyle as to those injuries…)?
I don't know why, but I don't recall a team abandoning a prospect as easily as the Niners have done with Trey, or so badly mishandled the situation at every step. EVERY QB picked at the top of the draft seems to get at least one full season or two to show what they have. Lance got 3+ starts, in less than ideal situations.
How about let Lance play with the starters next game and watch him shine. Shannihan doesn’t want him to succeed over Purdy. Strange, several white QB’s drafted high were flops but got several chances to play in the NFL. I E Blaine Gabbert, Blake Bortles, Carson Wentz, etc. all high draft picks that were eventually busts.
