The only things you technically need to do a really nice upgrade to an old car is a head unit and speakers. Having dedicated bass is a premium, which should be emphasized instead of "it's going to cost you the better part of a grand". Yeah, if you add an amp and a woofer, but a good head unit and good speakers in an old car will still improve the sound quality 10-fold. I still have the Pioneer 6×9's from my first car in boxes, had them hooked up to the receiver I use for my PC audio for a while, so if you aren't concerned about feeling the bass you could do this for under $200. A good head unit can put out at least 200watts on it's own, if not more.

I don't mean to criticize the decision making skills but shouldn't you have gone with 3 channels? 2 channels means you're in mono with your speakers

i have a kenwood kmm-bt502DAB headunit with 2 6,5 biltema speakers in the front doors and 2 6×9 biltema speakers behinde the rear seats and one kicker compR bass speaker in a magnat box, its a nice system for 600-650$

Just so everyone knows reversing the wires on speaker will just cause them to be out of phase (speaker cone moving in when it should be moving out) and it should still function although the sound waves will cancel each other out

I think you can go cheaper than 850 on a nice sound system. I’ve never spent more than 500 upgrading a sound system.

I hate to be the one guy, but they are complaining about lap times trying to compare it to a brand new civic, while they could’ve saved so much money building a motor, and then add a full sound system while already having close to full interior. Like is the point to have a fast track car that if you can build at home (what it sounded like this was going to be, a Honda Money Pit we’ve been dying to see), or is it taking an old car, and spending top dollar trying to make it like a civic that’s 30 years newer. Just doesn’t make sense

I would not have mounted the amp to the box it shortens it’s lifespan otherwise it’s a pretty simple cheap build.

I've done systems on all the cars I've owned and one boat (about 10 total) and I've NEVER amped door speakers. Literally not necessary. Can BARELY tell the difference compared to friends with a door amp, not worth the money.

If you were to do a Bluetooth setup, with a mount for a iPad/tablet. You could have gotten someone to print it. You could use the iPad/tablet to not only control your music, but also to add auxiliary gauges to not only monitor other car parameters, but to also record them, for later fine tuning or diagnostic purposes. If a camera, even a GoPro, were to be connected to the iPad/tablet. Then it could be used to view, and to review footage that was captured. Wether it was on track, or on street as a dashcam. If it was a personal car, then a phone could be setup for basically the same purposes, except that when someone got into the car, their phone would automatically connect with everything, and operate the same, except that it would have a smaller screen, and thus not display everything at once. The camera/s would have to be interfaced one at a time. One or two gauges would be seen vs more. Then to interface with the music, the current activity would have to be placed in the background, and the music, brought to the screen.
Using the phone vs the iPad/tablet, could be setup differently because if just popping in the car to go down the street. You might just have your phone, but you don’t need to do everything in your car as if you were going further or going somewhere that you would need/want more control or ability. Such as recording the difference systems in the car. But on the track, or in other situations, you might want to be able to record the systems and be able to diagnose a situation that might happen.
Don’t forget that if you had for instance a Apple sweet of products. While driving you could reach down to turn the volume up or down, using the control panel for the Bluetooth system, the iPad’s volume buttons, the iPhone’s volume buttons, and your Apple Watch to control the volume, along with other features. If you were to get an Apple Watch, and mount it to the steering wheel, near the spoke where you would be able to use your thumb to interact with the Apple Watch. It would be like steering wheel control, but with a multifunction screen the other two controls, and would work on either side, because you can flip it on both sides.
OFC is used because it doesn't have the chance to get old, not rust, but it gets ruined.
Ive got a $2k system in my car and i absolutely love it. It doesnt make sense to spend more on my system because its 8k watts in total and i drive with my windows up
