Ukraine is not only taking the fight to the aggressor but is also settling in for an extended stay. In doing so, the war has now been brought to Russian soil, leaving the Kremlin red-faced. The second week of “”Operation Kursk”” carried out by the Armed Forces of Ukraine still remains enshrouded in secrecy due to operational security. Many wonder about the operation’s true purpose. From what we can see, there are some conclusions that can already be drawn and which can shed a light on as to where the Kursk operation may lead.

On Ukraine This Week Don Arleth invited one of the most knowledgeable and prominent analysts’ covering the Russian-Ukrainian war, George Barros.
George Barros is the Russia Team & Geospatial Intelligence Lead on the Russia and Ukraine portfolio at the Institute for the Study of War (@georgewbarros). Barros offers unparalleled insight into the Kursk operation, with the latest intelligence.
We also got in touch with our correspondent Oz Katarji (@OzKaterji) who provides the latest news straight from Kyiv, and Piotr Kaszuwara (@piotrkaszuwara) a war correspondent at Onet.pl, who is based around the north-eastern front line.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Youth and Sports reported that 479 Ukrainian athletes and coaches have been killed since the start of the war with Russia. Among the victims were world and European champions, as well as participants in previous Olympic Games. This is a tragic loss for the Ukrainian world of sport, which we discuss with Ukrainian MP Mariia Ionova (@MPMaria_Ionova) who, in words full of emotion and hope, conveyed to us the atmosphere that accompanied the Ukrainians during the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris (@Paris2024 @OlympicGames

  13. So funny talking about the risks to foreign journalists on russian territory, and was never discussed about russian jountalists on ukrainian territory. Amazing we keep hogtying ourselves, and are willing to follow international laws, and we still have other countries running cover for russia. Laughable.

    The liberated areas must instead seek allegiance to Ukraine where they have better rights & freedoms than the predecessor !

  20. Two coincidence worth noting: the Gagner mutiny and Ukraine military campaign in Russian saw Russia citizens welcoming both by clapping for them, cheering them, etc.. This is indicative of sth big beyong what we could imagine. It's seems citizen are enslaved and so wanted a liberation. This is true.

  31. The weapons use restrictions are dumb as a bag of hammers.

    The US did the same thing to themselves in the Vietnam War. So 'cong just used Cambodia as a staging ground, attacked, and pulled back to safety.

    If munitions and equipment had been trickled to the Allies with the same retarded restrictions, we'd still be fighting WW2.

  35. Maybe you don't need to have all of the Ukrainian plans. You should be happy with what the Ukrainian soldiers are telling you. There have been too many cameras taken in to places where they should not have been taken. Soldiers locations gotten out to the Russian military & Ukrainian soldiers being hit with missiles at those same sites. Right after the Media leaves and it is aired. Many journalists not intending too. Give out too many details of plans & locations. The public doesn't need to know all of the details, all the time.

  36. Oz doesn't seem to understand military strategy. Ukraine would be wasting troops by sending more reinforcements to shore up the South/Eastern front. Instead, they've found and exploited Russian weakness along their North/Eastern border. I don't think Ukraine will try to push deep into Kursk, but more likely to send further incursions into Bryansk and Belgorod before linking them up.

The russian counterattack in Kursk region will NOT be deployed for the purpose of driving Ukraine out of russian This will be a FSB (KGB) BLACK FLAG operation, in which russian will commit atrocities against their own russian civilian citizens, for the cameras, in an effort to implicate Ukraine. There is nothing russia wants to see less in Kursk, than Ukraine treating russian civilians decently with humanity, as they are doing.

A lot of Russian civillians and Russian soldiers have been manipulated by being kept away from the truth and they know no better, but if any Russian soldiers have been back fighting in Ukraine then I would certainly have doubts about either having been misinformed of truths or do they know what they are doing and merely acting out of pure agression against innocent people in Ukraine
