I think this is what is wrong with journalism today. Did any of these folks actually watch the testimony? I was predisposed to believe in Paxton's guilt until I watched the testimony. It became obvious that the motivation for the impeachment was several disgruntled employees who disliked the man and were willing to believe the worst about him, and then got each other so worked up that they went to the FBI with allegations but no substantiation. These rogue employees actively worked to thwart the direction of the elected AG, and should have been fired. Given the lack of evidence this impeachment should never have happened. The question is, why did it? I believe it's because there's a portion of Texas Republicans in the House, and two in the Senate, who simply don't like any Republican who espouse any of the policies of what they think of disdainedly as MAGA. They brought this impeachment despite lack of any evidence because they wanted Paxton out of power and out of their party. Whether this was a response to Paxton's crushing of George P Bush, a manifestation of the dislike of the Bush/'Establishment' GOP against the resurgent populist GOP, or just animosity against Paxton, it was ill-considered and ill-executed. Yet, these analysts go on as if Paxton was able to avoid justice… in fact, he finally got justice.
