Satellite images show China’s extensive balloon program based on Hainan Island in the South China Sea, and U.S. officials say they know that is where the Chinese balloon launched before making its way across the Pacific Ocean. The U.S. believes a fleet of Chinese airships and balloons has flown over dozens of countries conducting surveillance from near space.

  7. well. its a brilliant idea.. gota give it to the chinese on this. Launch a fleet of balloons. at that altitude you need jet aircraft to intercept. current small cheaper drones cant go that high. unless your talking about surveillance drones. And a large enough balloon can carry a moderately heavy payload.

  8. You people, communist sympathizers, Chinese post, Chinese military posts, and Chinese government are not making any sense here. No… it's international pilots complaining about flight attitude balloon not call in from airline radar. It's not visible at day and night. There is no high attitude radar signal on airplane.. China have to make calls to FAA. Most international universities have do this; they have to call international FAA. Without it; lt's almost impossible and dangerous to every planes such as southwest, American Airlines, etc. You name it. Professional pilots know how long it take to turn or steer a plane if they see high attitude balloon? it would be titanic iceberg. It's very hard to turn. They are not military fighter jets. Military fighter jets can turn sharply but Boeing planes. Not the same turn. They are heavier and bigger. Just imagine having a plane pop high attitude balloon and cover Pilots windshield. Good luck, pilot around with it.
    This is why pilots alot call air traffic controls. I'm not pilot. But I'm sure millions of pro-pilots and stunt pilot around the world will tell you this. Don't put balloons up in air without calling FAA flight control or Air Traffic Control Towers. I'm sure someone might put on flight simulator in a video game see how you can handle high attitude balloons in game. China might be country to censors video game flight simulator on high attitude balloon avoidance. They would be embarrass to talk about high attitude balloon complains from the pilots. Not by US government. By pilots. This is not conspiracy talks. it's airline pilots. Entire country pilots.
