In this episode of Rimworld Biotech, we continue our 500% Randy Random run in the tropical rainforest. With a Knight in the colony, we finally unlock transport pods and send Brandon out to trade with the Empire. He purchases several useful items (and leaves behind many more), while the colony’s youngest celebrates her birthday: Ellie turns seven years old and we get to pick her first passions and a trait! Afterwards, we use our new mode of transportation to explore two ancient ruins in search of the Staff of Sin – but what we find are mostly insects…

The tropical rainforest is one of Rimworld’s more challenging biomes: A warm, wet jungle with choking overgrowth, survival in the tropical rainforest biome will not be easy. Wild predators and frequent diseases will make life difficult for our colonists, who will struggle to find free land to build on. Additionally, we are settling on a tile featuring mountainous terrain, extensive cave networks and a unique river that runs halfway underground.

We are continuing this playthrough from a Naked Brutality scenario in Rimworld Ideology that eventually evolved into a small tribal colony in the cold bog. After obtaining the first part of the archonexus map, we select five colonists for the quest to find the next piece, so we are starting with some items and equipment. Nonetheless, we are settling on a fresh new tile in the middle of the rainforest and have to start a new base from scratch to survive the dangers of the jungle on Randy Random “Losing is fun difficulty” with the threat scale cranked up to 500%.

With the Rimworld Biotech DLC, we also see the introduction of children and reproduction, lots of mechanoid additions, and an extensive gene system that allows the modification of our pawns on the genetic level. Additionally, we see skill teaching, pollution and vampires (or Sanguaphages) introduced to Rimworld, as well as several new races, quests and objects.

Rimworld is a Sci-Fi colony builder simulation game focused on managing a small group of survivors with the goal of eventually building a space ship to escape the planet. Rimworld is developed and published by Ludeon Studios. After a successful Kickstarter campaign, the game went through several Alpha and Beta versions before seeing the release of the Rimworld 1.0 version in October 2018.

  1. Well… if you need LOTS of money fast, drugs is a powerful go to. You can justify it as it being something that takes the pain of others away for a time. Maybe? Chocolate seems like a low hanging fruit, but it should be a solid seller. Also if you can get it in a warm enough place, Devilstrand products sell very high.

  2. When you say around 16:20 minutes about your right to use the "minify everything" mod, frankly I think if you're making a series aimed at entertainment you're entitled to whatever QOL mods enable you to tell the story you're looking to tell. I may be one random viewer with not much of a place, but, uh "go with my blessing" I guess? My enjoyment would also decrease knowing you're under pressure to do things a certain way out of audience demands for "purity" in ways that don't need to be. So do what you need to do buddy, I'm just here for the story and your ability to make it!

  3. You should make the call on that persona sword, but as far as what you make for trade goods, I say embrace the undergrounder thing and go full dwarf. Weapons and armor are the way to go. Make some swords and the like for trading with tribals, and some firearms for more advanced folks like the royals. Rhino hide is certainly something you have a lot of and it makes for some fine armor, which would also give your trade goods a distinct signature.

  4. Unless I missed it being dropped, Ellie was still wearing the shield belt when she got armed with the LMG. Industrious was the easy pick for her trait, but Gourmand fits more with her father and future role in the colony.

I don't think that elephants should become venerated, they're common in the biome and good source of meat. Which leads me onto trade goods – packaged survival meals. Nearly every trader buys them and all they take is time and some work. Grow rice/corn for thm outside and keep the 'shrooms for your own colonists.
Then a crafter to make clothing out of the various leathers from hunting, standard button up shirts and pants and not corsets or dusters as they don't fit the theme. Corsets are too fancy for a group of penitent healers and IMO dusters are almost a form of armour.

There is a mod that lets you make a hospital and adds an Ideology meme for health care, but this is a mod free playthrough but an option for those also playing a similar theme.

  5. I think you should explore the Arab titles as well for the Elephants. They have something grandiose about them:
    Vizir, Khalif, Emir, Sheik, Sultan.

We kinda missed on the "Emir Azazi" which sounds pretty cool.

  6. It would be pretty nice to get a deathless pawn and dive in the whole genetics things later in the playtrough but in the mean time you could produce clothes (capes, dusters, they sell for a fairly good price), expand your chocolate production or my favorite, grow corn it takes a long time but corn (or hops) sells for a good price per unit.

  7. Cheers for another great episode Pete! I think that if the goal of the Believers of Boyo is to make others as happy as possible then it might make sense to sell something that gives a positive moodlet, like luxury food. Not sure how profitable that would be, but perhaps there's something similar that's more efficient to make. I think Lady might be a good title for Lisettz, if that's not already taken.

  8. Your first pronunciation of the nickname Illyont was actually correct, not the last one. It's not related to anything french but a really old nickname I have been using for probably more than 20 years by now. Loving the title anyway 🙂 And enjoying the series, as always.

  9. A good-level persona weapon is fine when you can fetch it without too much trouble, but not worth investing great effort for, IMHO. Masterwork is the way to go, with exceptions for free-wielding or absolute killer-combos.

  10. ElliMG was a hoot. As was Maniac making a running gag (pun intended) of turning animals manhunter.
I personally like the menagerie of animals you have going on. I like elephants, but I wanna see the rest stay too.
Thanks for troubleshooting lots of bugs, and definitely agree that the deathrest serum goes to Vullek as a token of honour.

  11. Hmmm, you haven’t started building the gene stuff, have you? Because processing genes that fit you meme and “sharing” those with the world seems fitting. Idk what xemogerms you could make though. I just make what’s the fastest

  12. I've been fanging to watch this Bulder's Gate. I was just wanting to do one thing at a time. I'm assuming you are done with Xcom. That's totally cool man. I didn't own fancy tech even BG2 when all my mates could play it. I guess I'll have to start watching this series now 😀 Can't wait. Can't wait to find out what race and character you have roled.

  13. Found another cool-sounding title of French origin: Chevalière. I think it is means a female knight. Interestingly, chevalière also translates to signet ring, which kind of makes sense given that nobles would probably use those to like, stamp official documents or whatever in the olden days. Wikipedia rules.

Actually I just looked up if Chevaliers were considered nobility in France, and it looks like typically they were not. I believe in some regions of the French-speaking world Knighthoods were treated as hereditary noble titles, but I'm really not sure if this one technically qualifies. Really not sure why I felt compelled to looked all this up, I just thought it sounded rad.

Edit: wow found this whole thing typed in a browser tab I opened like Thursday. Gonna post it anyway lol
