Indiana Jones 5 Director Wanted Him SAD and BROKEN.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny director James Mangold said he made Indy sad and broken so he could pull off his ending. Indy 5 is looking to lose hundreds of millions of dollars for Disney, so I hope it was worth it?

  1. I actually went to see it because my Dad wanted to go. It’s nowhere near as bad as people are saying. It’s better than Crystal Skull, not that this is saying much because that movie was awful. The female character, Wombat (that’s her nickname), is definitely a bitch but she’s a bitch in the same way Mai Valentine (Cowboy Bebop) and Fujiko Mine (Lupin III) are, she’s a femme fatale sidekick who oscillates between helping Indie and trying to steal the artifacts he finds to sell to the highest bidder. Her story arc involves her learning to care about Indie (instead of using him to get money) and this culminates in her punching him. The context for that is after ending up in Roman times Indie, who knows he’s probably going to die from the bullet wound he’s taken, says he’d rather stay in the time of Archimedes and die there than return to the present to die. Part of this is framed as a heroic sacrifice, the heroes have to use a small plane to get back to the present before the time portal they came through closes and Indie thinks he’ll slow them down too much, although that’s undone by the fact that they obviously had no problem hauling his unconscious butt back to the plane. It’s very much a “shut up and let me save you” moment. The thing about them ending up in Roman times actually does make sense in context, the Dial has the ability to calculate the position of naturally occurring time warps, the villain heads to one with the intention of using it to change the outcome of WW2 but they find out the hard way that while the Dial may point towards time warps it doesn’t actually control when those time warps lead. It’s also foreshadowed earlier in the movie so it’s not like it completely comes out of left field. The main thing I don’t like about the ending is Marion coming back, which feels like it was tacked on just to give Indie a happy ending. Depending on how you interpret her words she either left him because he was depressed after the death of their son and is happy now that he’s gotten over that or she’s only into him if he’s going on adventures and learning he’s just been on another one got her motor running.

As far as killing off the son goes it’s not really plot important and only comes up when Wombat asks Indie if he would change anything about the past given a chance. Honestly as someone who didn’t like Mutt I’m not sorry he’s out of the picture, his character felt tacked on just because they wanted a new character to do new movies with and “Son of Indiana Jones” sounded good on paper. I’d have been fine with him just not being into archaeology and leaving to be a stunt driver or something.

  2. Mmm mmm MMMM!

I just love love LOVE the taste of Disney's Lucasfilm Pet Cemetery Memberberries!

Ignore the haters, the man babies, the ists, the phobes, and all other assorted wrongthinkers.

They'll try to tell convince you of that hateful old ideology of

    "sometimes dead is better"

I tell you they're wrong and should feel bad about themselves for being so wrong!

Indiana 5 was amazing. I wept. How does Kathleen Kennedy do it? What an amazing accomplishment!

  3. it was another classic bait and switch – come for indy, get fleabag. and they already announced before the movie even came out they were trying to spin off a show for her. so that tells you that this movie isn't really about indy so much as it is about launching their new character.

I saw indy on opening night. my theater had 6 people including myslef in there. the other 4 tickets weren't purchased until an hour before the movie – i thought my buddy and i were gonna be the only ones for a minute. Outside of giving fleabag the mcguffin, there was really no need to have him in the film. he didn't really do a whole lot that fleabag wouldn't have been able to do without him. in the final act, he's basically dying the whole time (from a gunshot) so what's the point…this movie deserves to burn. As much as I would love to see KK get her ass handed to her, she should have been shown the door many MANY times before. but she must have dirt on people cuz she's still around. so keep her around and see how much more $$ disney loses. I heard the total tally so far is almost $1B lost for movies? that doesn't even include the merch rotting on the shelves.

  4. People need to understand the whole reason this movie exists is because in order for Disney to bring Harrison Ford as Han Solo in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, the had to green light Indiana Jones 5, because Ford loves playing Indiana Jones. That’s why this whole existence of Indiana Jones 5, so Ford can come back for the terrible Star Wars sequels

  5. Hahahahaha, Geeky. I LOVED that ran towards the end. You also forgot to add that the MCU was the other franchise they ruined. Well, Disney, not Lucasfilm. They are almost on par with JJ Abrams , the franchise destroyer.

  6. Az from HeelvsBabyFace had an awesome "fix" to give Indy 5 a better story. I swear if they had made Indy 5 anything like what Az came up with, the movie would have made millions and been a great sendoff for the Indiana Jones franchise.

  7. If anyone doubts that a final sequel to an Adventure franchise in which the protagonist is brought out of retirement can be done without undoing their prior happy ending, Uncharted 4 already did it.

  8. “Raiders of the Lost Ark” has been one of my favorite films for decades. Even “Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” didn’t spoil that. But “Dial of Destiny” has reframed “Raiders” to such a degree that I can no longer see it in the same light. Why couldn’t Disney leave well enough alone? Do they really want to destroy every IP they own????

  9. My grandma and I are avid fans of crappy B movies…so we have a tolerance for shit as long as its fun or funny…well she called me after seeing this film with my cousin and told me to not see it and how bored she was sitting there for the close to 3 hours(or maybe thats how it felt). You know a movie is bad if you cant even watch it ironically or just to laugh at how bad it is.

  10. Who the hell wants to see the main protagonist be a broken, sad, depressed shell of their former self? These don't make people wanna spend money to see them and the ones who claim that they do…are broke and don't buy anything.
