  2. When it is the time to build pilot-less aircrafts and drones, our air forces is still struggling to get a prototype of a aircraft.. We are lacking far behind just because of our young youth unwilling attitude towards defense development

  3. Mig 29 will follow the path of the Mig 21 Bison and start killing more Indian pilots than Pakistan ever did. Dump the HAL project for the Tejas MK2 and build 83 more Tejas MK1A. Up the order for Rafale to 214 and let the private sector companies build the AMCA MK2 en masse. That way they don't have delays for rebuilding the production line from the Tejas MK1A to the Tejas MK2 and all other aircraft will be private sector built.

  5. The IAF seems to have factored in a possible delay in the production of the Tejas Mk-2, which is probably why they've decided on ๐˜ญ๐˜ช๐˜ง๐˜ฆ ๐˜ฆ๐˜น๐˜ต๐˜ฆ๐˜ฏ๐˜ด๐˜ช๐˜ฐ๐˜ฏ of the MiG-29 fleet, which was only upgraded to โ€˜๐˜œ๐˜—๐˜Žโ€™ a short while ago. (The Tejas Mk-2 was expected to be the replacement for the MiG-29s.)
A little before this, IAF had announced ๐˜ญ๐˜ช๐˜ง๐˜ฆ ๐˜ฆ๐˜น๐˜ต๐˜ฆ๐˜ฏ๐˜ด๐˜ช๐˜ฐ๐˜ฏ of the Su-30MKI fleet, which would be in addition to the ๐˜š๐˜ถ๐˜ฑ๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ ๐˜š๐˜ถ๐˜ฌ๐˜ฉ๐˜ฐ๐˜ช upgrade of 80 (or 84) Su-30MKIs.
๐˜“๐˜ช๐˜ง๐˜ฆ ๐˜ฆ๐˜น๐˜ต๐˜ฆ๐˜ฏ๐˜ด๐˜ช๐˜ฐ๐˜ฏ for both the Su-30MKIs and MiG-29 ๐˜œ๐˜—๐˜Ž could be an indication that MRCA is as good as dead.
As per the CAG, it was only with the active connivance of the IAF that Dassault Aviation got to be โ€˜๐˜“1โ€™ in MMRCA. And subsequently, in utter disregard for terms of the MMRCA contract, took an inflexible stand that they would in no way guarantee any Rafales made by HAL.
The current air chief is of opinion that since F-35 is far cheaper than Rafale, it's difficult to justify buying even 36 additional Rafales โ€“ though it is the IAF's preferred fighter jet.
There would also be the lesson from the Dassault Mirage 2000 upgrade.
โ‚น๐Ÿญ๐Ÿฒ๐Ÿณ ๐—ฐ๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ/$22.27 million was the figure that the then defence minister A.K. Antony gave Parliament in 2013 for upgrade of the single-engine Mirage 2000H multirole fighters to 2000-5 standard. Now, per unit upgrade cost is likely to be closer to โ‚น190 or โ‚น200 crore (well over $25 million, which is almost a third of the cost of a F-35!!!!! ๐Ÿ˜ฒ ). But, the upgraded aircraft will have a residual lifespan of a little over a decade.
In a few years, the Rafale F3-Rs would also have to be upgraded. Going by precedent โ€“ i.e., the Mirage 2000H upgrade, cost of upgrading just 36 F3-R Rafales is going to huge. So, irrespective of what ๐˜ ๐˜ฐ๐˜ถ๐˜›๐˜ถ๐˜ฃ๐˜ฆ ๐˜ฆ๐˜น๐˜ฑ๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ๐˜ต๐˜ด might say, 114 Rafales under MRFA can only be at the cost of slow down of the Tejas Mk-2 and AMCA programmes.
