Incredible Find! Exploring 163 Year Old Graveyard Found In The Woods! Holloman Creek Cemetery



In this Adventures Into History video, we take a journey down a rugged dirt road in Stewart County, Georgia, to visit the remote Holloman Creek Cemetery, nestled deep in the woods. This cemetery contains many graves that have fallen into disrepair, with some tombstones worn beyond recognition and several unmarked graves scattered throughout the area. Though time has taken its toll, the cemetery offers a glimpse into the lives of early settlers, with tombs and graves of those who lived over a century ago.

Alabama: Daughter of unknown parents. Born May 9, 1861. Died Feb 16, 1865.

Martha E. Allen: Wife of C. Allen. Born March 11, 1825. Died July 25, 1871.

W. Allen: Inscription is mostly unreadable. Nearby are two unmarked children’s tombs.

Nathaniel E. Boone: Born North Carolina. Died Jan 1, 1885. Age 70 years.

James Monroe Cleveland: Born May 22, 1819. Died May 8, 1905.

Catherine Wright Cleveland: Wife of James Monroe Cleveland. Born Dec 10, 1822. Died Aug 21, 1907.

Martha Sultana Cleveland: Daughter of J. M. and Catherine Cleveland. Born May 26, 1841. Died Oct 5, 1861.

Amelia Hooper Cleveland: Wife of Benjamin Cleveland. Born April 2, 1798. Died Nov 9, 1820.

Benjamin Cleveland: Born Feb 12, 1792. Died Jan 26, 1879.

Grady M. Cleveland: Son of T.W. and M. Cleveland. Born July 30, 1891. Died Mar 20, 1907.

Infant Deason: Infant of James Z. and Julia T. Deason. Born July 4, 1891. Died July 12, 1891.

  2. LOVE this old cemetery and so happy that you documented some of it, with reading of some of the headstones there. Some of the clean up you can see did help, but sadly the saplings have grown back, and really needs it again. God bless all those that have attmpted it thought, including you Robert. I have some Maddox surnames in my mothers side of my family genealogy..so seeing some of these, and thinking they COULD be related , is nice to see..thank you Joy and Robert. Great video.

Hey I think what you do is a selfless act of kindness and I was also wondering if you were to die would you want to be buried or cremated so that maybe in the future you family would take care of your gave or spread your ashes to a favorite place of yours just wondering how you became so involved with graves

  4. The monument company originally placed my mother's headstone "backwards" so you could see it from the road going through the cemetery. I had them turn it around. I wonder if there was a path or anything that caused so many of the ones in your video to be "backwards".
