  1. I’m delighted the Americans are spelling out to us that we aren’t up to muster and need to improve rapidly and substantially. For a population of 70 million it’s frankly absurd that we have an army of 70000 including bloody reserves. Most of the kit is obsolete and the good stuff we don’t have in any quantity to sustain a force in the field in the event of general war.
It’s staggeringly obvious that the entire armed forces is a hollowed empty force. With little if any offensive capability save for a few tomahawks. We need to double the defence budget. I can’t believe I’m saying that. But with China as she is and Putin as he is we have no choice. The first duty of government really is the defence of the realm. And at this moment in time the realm ain’t protected for sh*t

Ps Ben Wallace is a class act. And a credit to his regiment and Sandhurst! He’s a superb defence Secretary and I hope Keir somehow keeps him in post next year. He’s above party politics and hasn’t really put a foot wrong in dealing with Russia.

  2. A minister of defence? NATO is a shamble, cannot get their act together in their help to UK@raine. How countries can rely on this block if the military is so old, everyone is dumping their old equipment as their ‘help’ to UK@raine. Talking about submarines. The quality is appalling, spending millions for what? Only to spend more on repairs.

  3. From my own personal perception of Ben Wallace I would have to say he is an honest defence secretary and in my opinion straight talking and with his experience is definitely the best person for the job well done.

  4. He is giving it the Old Flannel. Its going to take this Government 2 years to provide Beds and Ambulances to cut waiting times. Let alone Military Equipment like Subs. When they get made they will be on the Antiques Road Show.

  5. just wait till Scotland leaves the UK in the next 12 months it will be even gloomier for what's left of the former UK, they will lose at least £4 billion a year from Scottish taxpayers towards UK defense spending and they will have to remove there nukes from Scotland within 3 years, come the next general election we will use that as our referendum to leave the vile and corrupt UK and rejoin the EU, London can't Stop it from happening with Scotland's consent there is no UK

  8. It was with great delight to hear about the proposal pledges that the entire final assembly for all three ships will be completed at Harland & Wolff’s shipyard in Belfast. Defence of the realm is safe under the current minister. It also means in many respects things have moved on from 2014 and reversal in the historic decline of shipbuilding which had prompted previous ill-informed comments.

  9. That a lie there was always threat from Russia and China and Iran even before Ukraine war with Russia , it the government and ministers of defence not open there eyes and wasn’t realised what there doing to the military, even now there won’t listen there make excuses and make it worst and still give our military equipment away

  10. Never mind the peripherals, what about the big issue – loading almost all the military budget into Trident, leaving not much left for ultra modern tanks, guns, ammo, planes and troop training? I am pacifist and do not believe in war, and even I can see loading almost everything into a system that can be sabotaged by a few Russian spies, making the UK army and airforce look weak as its ultra underfunded is a catastrophe. When it comes to nukes a psycho like Putin will simply call your bluff. The overreaction to Covid has decimated Europes military by bleeding it dry of cash. The bible predicts war. Its going to happen, and if the money had not been wasted on over priced PPE, £100 a time inaccurate Covid tests that were simply unnecessary except to fuel media driven hysteria, the West would be so strong it would not be so vulnerable to attack.
