In Defense of Secret of NIMH 2: Timmy to the Rescue

Ever since its release in 1998, Secret of NIMH 2 has been near universally bashed, with some even dubbing it “the worst animated sequel of all time.” Let’s fix that.

———————————————————————————————————-

This is a video I’ve been wanting to make for a looooooong time. I’ve been a fan of this movie since I was a young kid, and it’s seriously disheartening to see the constant negative backlash I saw this film get, with any positive comments being very far and few. But after the overall positive reaction to my Speed Racer video, and with support from some of my other close friends, I figured I may as well throw my own hat into the ring and put all my thoughts of discussing the positive aspects of this widely hated film into this video.

This wasn’t as hellish to edit as the Speed Racer video was, but my editing software (HitFilm) is still occassionaly an asshole that likes to randomly crash for no reason and screw up my progress. And while I still feel there could have been aspects on this video I could have improved on (such as the visual of the Great Owl at 19:37 was supposed to have a Minecraft death sound effect; I only noticed after exporting the full thing but I didn’t bother fixing it because this already took an hour and a half to export), I’m still overall happy with how this turned out. (Also massive apologies to all the Racso fans out there; yall are still valid!!)

  1. Well first of all, you sound different than I thought you would. Second, although I gave the film a negative review, though I tried to be as restrained as possible while providing as much background trivia as I could, I appreciate anyone seeking to give a different perspective, at least for once, without making a spectacle out of it.

Onto the review, it seems you have more knowledge of the NIMH films than Doug Walker, who was unfortunately my first exposure to the film. I know it's weird to bring Doug up, but there were details he missed outright just because he focused so much on it in the vein of the first, or just for comedy, either way it's one big wet fart.

This helped me get some more perspective on the sequel, with things I didn't even think about, all in all good work.

  2. While I am no fan of Secret of NIMH 2: Timmy to the Rescue, I respect the opinions of those who do enjoy it. Also, you should do a video on thumbnails/title cards that contain the uploader, the character they're portraying, or a character/person they like attacking or killing or about to do so to characters in the works reviewed because when it comes to YouTube media criticism, not enough people talk about these thumbnails/title cards and how pathetic they are since they're like DeviantArt hate art.
