China has the audacity to act as that way in the Philippines because they are aware that some of our politicians are on their side in return for covert favors. In particular, the previous administration was attempting to influence its supporters by claiming that if they opposed China, a war would break out, so they should be allowed to do as they please. They say they don't want conflict and they love Filipinos. War is not necessary to fight for your rights. It's but one tactic they use to influence their supporters. They have no idea what our heroes have battled for in the past.
The Philippine government should focus on more non-conventional means to deter China. I'm talking about drone swarms,EW attacks,the whole 9 yards. Resources aren't an issue with a determined party,we've seen that play out in Vietnam,Afghanistan,more recently,Ukraine,with massive turnover for these states as they consistently incur costly interactions with superior adversaries.
Philippines must fix its own country first before engaging in a war they can't win. A lot of Filipinos are Anti-American anyways specially the Duterte supporters. I wouldn't bother helping the Philippines if I was the US.
