The Imperial Navy, known as the Navis Imperialis in High Gothic, is one of the primary armed forces of the Imperium of Man.

While the Astra Militarum (Imperial Guard) represents the Imperium’s ground forces, the Imperial Navy is responsible for the fleets of starships that maintain order between the stars and planets in the Imperium, for all space and air support provided to the infantry of the Astra Militarum through its Aeronautica Imperialis branch, and for transporting those Guardsmen across the galaxy to the Imperium’s myriad warzones.

The battlefleets of the Imperial Navy are constantly engaging threats both inside and outside the Imperium’s borders.

  1. 43:40 Now I get all of my info about ships from Battlefleet Gothic Armada (the game) but from that ship's engine design and shape, that's not even a light cruiser, that's a FRIGATE. In-game escorts like that only exist to detect ships, be annoying in stealth, and die. They are huge in a real scale but compared to everything else they're tiny pests.

  2. As an occasional Rogue Trader, I must sadly inform you that Imperial carriers don't carry thousands of strike craft. A squadron of voidfighters numbers in the dozens, bombers still in the dozens but less dozens, and assault boats generally in the dozen singular. An Imperial standard voidship typically carries three squadrons per hangar bay, though sometimes they carry transports, aeronautica or support craft (repair/salvage vehicles, anything that goes in space but hasn't already been mentioned) in place of one or more squadrons.

Side note, as a Rogue Trader with taste, I must remind you to never listen to stuffy Navy types who try to tell you carriers have no place in the Imperium- they have plenty of place deploying my air support onto a freshly conquered planet.

  3. Unironically, Shy's edits are my favorite part of this trilogy. The whole thing is works together as a team effort of lore, goofiness, and Shy. And Shy is the magic.

  5. To remind those who don't know the numbers on just a light carrier, a Light Carrier in 40k is 2.2 Km which transfers to around 2405 yards. Which then transfers to 7217 feet, so yeah they're pretty massive

  6. Dearest sir bricksalot. I'm sure you will get @'ed by others as well and get it all clarified in the upcoming episode about navy ship types, but The Mornigstar is a modified sword class friggate, so smaller than the light cruiser. On that note, i don't recognise what light cruiser type that is in the scale comparison image. Afaik, there are only two main classes of imperial light cruisers, the dauntless and endeavour, both with a range of variants. That silhouette doesn't match either. Any more info on that?
ps: the eternal crusader is 3.56km tall and 10 long and valrak will probably shiv you for not recognising the flagship of the BT.

  7. A "Rate" is the job designation. A sailors rating is their job. A engine tecnician, electrician, hull tecnician, gunner, are all ratings. Vox operator, coolant system dude, or whatever jobs there are.

  8. I think DK is overstating the size a little.

Bricky: They can go up to 8km in length.
DK: Woah, those are like continent sized ships!

8km is the size of the small town I live in, with around 5000 other people, definitely not the size of a continent which measure in thousands of km. Btw that is the canon description of a craftworld: "continent sized ships".

On a lore note here also, sure, a town is nowhere near as compact as the ship is, the lower estimates are more than reasonable, but 3 million people? That sounds a little high, like you might fit that many in an emergency situation with people just sleeping in the hallways, like you've evacuated an attacked world, but there ain't no way you can fit, and/or use such a crew on a ship that's 8 clicks long, cmon GW.

  10. Do you want to be attacked by Dark Eldar in a hive city where the masses may be abducted without the peace keepers so much as noticing. Or attacked by Dark Eldar in a giant fuck off space citadel where everyone is trained how to protect the giant fuck off space citadel?
