  1. Pokémon is washed out and oversold I don’t interact with the series outside of gen 5 and below Romhacks monster taming as a genre is much more exciting especially with Ed at the forefront guiding us to quality titles

  2. I honestly think Pokémon gets enough attention. Focusing on other games is better to be the genre ambassador that he is. If you do want pokemon content, it's out there.

  3. Good on you Ed. I didn't even finish Violet, Pokemon and monster rancher was my upbringing. I just can't believe Pokemon got so lazy. They didn't even try in the new game and they lied to us about 3d models. They don't want to update the base game because it sold so well. Stop buying games that are not finished and they will stop making games that release unfinished. Plus the game launched at 70 bones!

  4. My honest opinion is if you actually enjoy games play them, and if not, don't worry about it. Especially with pokemon, we have Serebii and Joe Merrick for literally any kind of information pokemon related. I'm just waiting for the confirmed Cassette Beasts DLC 😁

  5. I agree with your decision here. I played Pokemon up until the last game came out on the 3DS (Sun and Moon 2), and shortly afterwards, I stopped buying Pokemon video games since they have stuff that I didn't like in it (Pokemon battle by themselves, but I rather be able to pick which moves they use rather then watch an auto-battler that I have no say in, etc.) and I found other games that got my interest over Pokemon these games. Plus, I can't afford the $60+ that Pokemon game comes out for anymore since it's a high price to pay for a game that I might not like, while most of the games you showed off on your channel (indie monster taming games) are 50% of the price of what Pokemon games go for these days, and you can buy 2-3 indie monster taming games for the price of 1 Pokemon game.

The best I can say is that Pokemon games might have been good up to the 3DS era where we didn't have any DLC to worry about for games up to that system, and after getting into the Switch era, they been going downhill a lot lately, and it's also when the Pokemon games started getting DLC and I feel like that don't include certain Pokemon in the base game so that they put them into DLC that we have to buy just to get access to the missing Pokemon (the starter Pokemon from past regions being an example for this month's DLC).

At the end of the day, it's each individual's decision about what to buy with their time and money, and once someone's opinion is locked on something, you shouldn't fight them to change it. Just continuing covering what you think is good, since I love how you have guides for coverage and other indie games that most people won't ever know again and that there's so many games in the indie monster taming category now that you can find something of interest if you get tried of Pokemon for awhile.

  6. I bought it because I'm into competitive VGC. Edit: Just wanted to add to this. I felt the same way with Sword/Shield and didn't purchase the DLC for the same reasons you feel Ed. I didn't feel it and I'm a big Pokemon fan, but I didn't really play Sword and Shield after beating it so I felt no need to buy the DLC. I have been playing SV a lot more and have been getting more into the competitive scene so buying it was a no brainer.

  7. I really respect you as a cc. I just wanted you to buy and cover the dlc if you thought you would enjoy doing so.

If you are not into it, then it is just better to play and cover other games. 😊

  8. I think you have a bad take on this. As a content creator you should always capitalize on the hype for games and their DLC as it pertains to your channel/audience. Even if it's a small review or let's play, it still generates some engagement and your content is pretty solid.

I definitely share your criticism with Pokemon as of late in regards to its monetization, content and overall polish compared to its older titles. With that said, I wouldn't hang onto the hope of a 3rd version with all the content as it seems like they stopped doing that.

I think your decision here is mostly based on your personal feelings towards the franchise as of late, which again I share, but even though this isn't your "main job" (or even a job), I think you owe it to yourself to get the DLC and hopefully gain a few subs/views.

  9. I bought the DLC for Scarlet, but I feel the same way you do. I don't dislike Pokemon, but it's been hard to get excited about most of the stuff they're doing nowadays. Hopefully the DLC will be worth it, but you have the right whether or not you want to purchase or try out something.

  10. I'm in kinda the same boat towards Pokemon. I still enjoy the core gameplay, but lately I've just been focused on going back to the older games to complete all the stuff I never fully got around to.

  11. I understand that it takes time to play Pokemon where they don't have the most engaging aspect of gameplay while their stories are interesting. There is also how these DLCs are different from other video games and that the last time felt like something that should've been part of the main game in some way along with how they feel like proper post-games.

  12. I still love Pokemon since my Gen 1 childhood and always will most likely, but your channel showed me there was way more to this genre than just the big buck franchise.
I probably wouldn't have discovered Nexomon without your more niche content and that in turn probably wouldn't have directed me to tracking down a copy of Digimon Cyber Sleuth.
I see Pokemon to Monster taming as Star Wars is to Sci-fi. Both are great introductions to their genre because of their viewer friendliness, but there's many other series that take the formula in different directions if one is wanting to try something new while keeping things familiar

  13. Yeah pokemon lately feels meh, 0 excitiment about the expensive dlcs, I don't see it worth it at all, and if you have other stuff to cover that is better instead of stressing about the dlc videos or feeling obligated to do it 😊

  14. While I disagree with your opinions on the dlc, if it's not for you, it ain't for you. I think you should at least see some reviews for it before saying you don't want it, but far be it from me to say you should live something you don't.

  15. I 100 percent agree with you about the DLC model and having to buy the DLC twice for both versions of the game sucks as it should not be on DLC that you can buy for both versions of the games. Also I will get the DLC but I will most likely not be making content on the DLC anytime soon ass I have been busy with School.

  16. These NPCs you speak of aren't worth the time or reasoning with, because they're fools. There's this subset of "Pokémon fans" that only know how to be a toxic, gatekeeping echo chamber without an ability to think for themselves and at all. Their only job is projecting their misery on people.

Anyway…you're spot-on with your thoughts, and not because I agree with them. It doesn't hit the same, because it's easy to see that Game Freak is pulling the old, scumbag scheme where they paywall the criticisms and quality of life content, just to give people a so-called incentive to keep throwing money away on an overpriced and incomplete product. EVERYTHING introduced could easily fit into the base games they have yet to complete and fix.

You'll probably change your mind, and that's cool…but it's admirable to see a content creator put reasoning and passion before a paycheck.

  17. I’m glad I didn’t get it in the very first place because it is too sad for me to play it on my Nintendo Switch last year in 2022 & after my grandpa died this year in 2023 Pokémon scarlet & Pokémon Violet & the dlc are too for me & it really thinking of my grandpa again & it would be super hard for me to move on from it again 😔

  18. I feel like this video was really good as someone who hates it when i see people content farming pokemon bad. I just don’t like the kinda well poisoning you’ve been doing like frothing at the keyboard really? Usually when i hear this I’m like why does someone offering a positive counter argument make you so mad? (I just find it funny this pokemon community drama)

Also a nit pick you said not not which is a double negative not sure if that was a accident but you essentially said you where trying to shame people who buy the dlc (this is not serious this is a nitpick)

  19. I mean I agree with the video.
But when it comes to console DLCs I kinda open my wallet cause in the end it's still part of the game and I don't want to finish a game that's incomplete.

  20. I’ve not only bought it, but still playing it lol it’s actually really run to play and the new pokes are awesome along with the returning ones and the story is way better imo. Play it first and see how good it is.

  21. The fact that the DLC are just glorified safari zones is the reason I absolutely despise them.
I could just play USUM and get a more complete experience, why should I bother with what? 4 new Pokémon? for 30€???
Not a single person plays Pokémon for the story, all they had to do was bring back megas or something and there would've at least been a reason because as is, the DLC brings no content.

  22. Tbh the dlc was so sus the guy Kieran obviously has a crush on the main character wich is us… another lgbtq related bull in Pokémon nothing against lgbt just it was pretty annoying the dude was clearly jealous of his sister hanging out with a guy because he was fantasizing about him 🤦🏻‍♂️

    Point is
Dlc story was wack tried to be a love story between 2 guys
Dlc was super short again not worth it tbh

  23. and never start with "just my opinion" or other niceties, you'll be smeared simply for not conforming to what they want u to say cause its about CONTROL never about what they say but what they didn't tell u to say or do
say your thoughts bluntly without tiptoeing around fragile toes

  24. GOOD
never a reason to get the dlcs cause they are BROKEN GAMES
these games aren't worth $70, or $60 or $35 for dlc price for content that should already be in the games just to get mons u already should have

  25. Saying this just in case. You don't need to own the dlc to transfer over the returning Pokemon from Pokemon bank. You just need to update the game. The dlc just lets you catch them in the game.
