  1. I’ve always seen The Last Of Us (the first game) as being the story of this world’s biggest villain. It’s the story of the man who doomed mankind. And yet it’s done in such a way that you root for him, or at least completely understand where he comes from.

  2. 27:15 I am calling them Fire Lights from now on! thanks! πŸ™‚
34:35 I agree with you they did not give her a choice… after he murdered half of the hospital guard… then she tell him "Let her to decide" B*** i't's too LATE !

They should have gave Joel and Elllie alone time to talk it out!!… you can't just rip someone off like that and call it a day.

  3. Hopefully the revenge theme is done better in the 2nd season of the show cuz the game handled it in such a basic, surface level way, it was surprising that the same people wrote the first game.

  4. I've always thought the dichotomy in the end is brilliant. Both Joel and Marlene need Ellie, however both keep the truth from her, as they're both terrified they're wrong about what she wants. Marlene put her to sleep because she's terrified Ellie won't want to go through with it at the cost of her life, and Joel lies to Ellie because he's terrified she would've wanted to go through with it.

Also it's made more apparent in the game, but the surgery they intended to perform on Ellie isn't a "possible" or "figurative" death sentence. It's just a straight up death sentence. They would have to remove tissue from all over her brain, not just the cordyceps but also the brain tissue it's attached to. If they perform the surgery, Ellie 100% dies with no guarantee the cure can actually be made.

  5. 22:08 This is something I actually love about Ellie. She probably never even considered being emotionally manipulative. Everything she feels is always visible on the surface – if she finds you disgusting, you'll know. If she's annoyed, you'll know. She can't fake it and I love that.

  6. I'm so happy you understood the implications at the end. Whether we agree with Joel's actions or not, the only person whose opinion matters is Ellie's. It's her body, her immunity, and her complete trust in Joel that are being tested. So Joel's decisions (to take her out and to lie) would obviously have a huge effect on her. And I love that Part 2 explores this, and that it is a central and pivotal plot point of the series.

  7. Part I is filled with standard tropes: zombie apocalypse, tough guy with hardened heart due to tragedy who goes on a journey with someone who opens up his heart. Yadda yadda. One of the things that I like about Part II is that it has a more interesting story.

  8. it's canon in the game that there have been about a dozen failed surgeries on "immune" people that have all failed and it's one of the reasons that I side with Joel. It's kind of hinted at in episode 2 when Ellie is explaining it to Joel and Tess and he already knows what she's talking about and says "this bullshit? That's what they always say"

  9. I suppose I could be off here, but I think the implication is intended that the surgeon was going to remove all of Ellie's brain. The surgery was always guaranteed to claim her life.

  10. The Last of Us infected are not undead, You do not need a headshot to kill them. In the game you'd be surprised at how effective a "foot shot" can be, especially against the big hulking ones.
