Australia has been shutting down fossil fuel power stations so of course the percentage of renewable will seem to have improved greatly because the overall power output is now less than it was. And how will this loss be replaced? Well of course it won't there will just be blackouts.

its a simple fix really ..australia should keep a large portion of its natural gas from the global market and market pricing .. allow so much gas that we halve the energy prices and stimulate building ,small business and manufacturing ..we will get more houseing more products and cheaper living costs ..we need to start looking after AUSTRALIA FIRST ..we are falling as a nation and are in dept to and dependant on china etc time to make AUSTRALIA GREAT AGAIN

I have solar I only use 30% of what my solar panels produce. This is going to force me to buy a battery. I think most solar producers feel this way, we don't want an electrical bill when we are putting more into the grid

There are multiple reasons for the shortage of gas in this country but a shortfall in production is not one of them. Our gas production has been growing at a 11.5% pa rate for the last 10 years and in 2018-2019 year it grew 16.5%.. Our net growth in productions has been faster than our growth in demand. It is just that we have been increasing our exports faster than our production.
The two main causes are:
1. at a time when we have a peak in the production of gas, we have successive governments not following resource reservation policies This allows miners to export 100% of their output while signing contracts for the price of gas cheaper than we can buy it here. Unbelievably we can be buying back our own gas from Japan cheaper than what we have to pay for it here and China is on selling our gas to other countries again at a better price than what we pay.
2. the push for lower emission electricity generation, again flawed government policy, has caused a lot of our remaining gas production to be directed at our Electricity production rather than manufacturing, increasing the demand for the scarce remaining gas which escalates the price of what we pay and the cost of our manufacturing. We now have manufacturers relocating overseas in an endeavor to reduce the cost of production.
it is understandable our politicians cant get policy right as they are conflicted with working in the best interests of Australians or ensuring they have their overseas bank accounts topped up for their retirement. Life is so difficult and the decisions so hard for our pollies.
