I am about to join FOA from europe as i am getting a new fisker delivered today but i was trying to inform myself about FOA and to be honest there is very little info. All i know is that i need to pay 50 bucks monthly. Its 2000 members now? Thats 100.000 usd monthly, what if we get to 3000 members or 5000 members, will that become cheaper? Because at 5k members thats 3 million dollars a year, i sort of would like to know more about FOA, is it 5 people working there, is it 15, 50? What can we expect of this in Europe? Dont get me wrong, i will be the first to join and pay from the day of ownership and i am sure the amount is justified with so little members buuut there is overall not much info given upfront on the FOA and for european people this usually doesnt work, thats why its not enough members. I also think the business model is wrong, should charge 10 bucks for app, 10 bucks for internet, the rest charge thru updates. Update 3.0 = 300 bucks. People pay much easier for results. Anyway… I will join in the next 24h, getting my ocean today 🙂
I think the developments in the Fisker story are very interesting how a software defined vehicle fares in the real world. All of the problems experienced by Fisker owners are going to be those of EV owners everywhere.
From the BlackBerry QNX website: (BlackBerry is a maker of automotive OS)
“What Is a Software-Defined Vehicle?
A Software-Defined Vehicle is any vehicle that manages its operations, adds functionality, and enables new features primarily or entirely through software.
Software-Defined Vehicles are the next evolution of the automotive industry. They are the foundation of many other advancements, including self-driving and connected cars. Deloitte notes that they ultimately reflect “the gradual transformation of automobiles from highly electromechanical terminals to intelligent, expandable mobile electronic terminals that can be continuously upgraded.”
Even the OEMs are going to have to have their vehicles software-defined.
The corporate structure of Fisker is the US domiciled company is an unconsolidated subsidiary of the privately-held parent corporation in Austria. Since the last important development, they are debtor-in-possession.
The shares became unlisted and unquoted Oct. 18. There was no notice of extinguishment. With every step, you’re going to have to ask: ‘what’s missing?’
I’ve seen ads for EV leases, which will now become a feature of owning an EV. So the on-going leasing adventure by American Lease is a sign how ‘things EV’ will go.
Saying what has to be said.
Nope… I am waiting for the end of the arbitration process and refuse to spend another dime on that trash car.
1000% it's worth it to join the FOA. Even if you don't consider parts and repairs, legacy automakers + commercial offerings (thinking like BlueLink and Verizon Hum) are going to run you ~$300/year for connectivity and OTA support. Great video as always Adam!
Have a good Christmas and all the best for 2025 Adam, when will those who refuse to join FOA learn that you have to pay for knowledge these days, it doesn’t fall off trees and FOA and the leasing company etc have secured the knowledge to keep the cars running. I’m having iT issues with my 2024 Countryman – the incar assistant is loosing its ability to do things – it’s unlearned things it could do 2 months ago like voice instructions to operate the HVAC that are dangerous to do on the screen while driving, it won’t even dial a call out even though it is connected to my phone and when I manually input the phone number from the dash keypad it comes back on the screen that it it is dialing the name of the person………… but I have the might of the BMW network behind me trying to sort it out and I am assured that the OTA update coming next month (January) will fix my problems………… I’m not holding my breath though! Blue in the face isn’t my thing!
I'm neither owner nor investor, but, at this point, I would advise selling or donating your car.
After losing many thousands $$, (and strangely feeling fortunate not to take delivery at the last minute), I have to wonder why Henrik, Geeta and people like Sean can't/aren't held criminally responsible. Yes it was my decision to get into it, but that was based on their deception.
We did join, left the car plugged in and connected to home wifi even though we are in Amsterdam for work. Needless to say we javent been driving the vehicle for a few months after buying it in 2023. We also did sign up with HB and hope the outcome with Chase will work out favorably.
Thank you for your dedication to our community.
Great video. Thanks. My advice, as much as I love the vehicle, is to run away. Take the settlement and run
I am in the UK and have joined the FOA as paying full price £65k in Nov 23 and the car is now only worth around £18k I need the support as in the UK we have nothing Thanks Adam your a great asset for the info you provided,
All good info … thanks, as always, for the great analysis and info.
There are also people that will be selling their car and the new owners will need to join…do they get punished with fees?
Honestly, I spent my own money to upgrade 2.2 and battery replacement after FOA’s disastrous 2.2 OTA roll-out. At this point, I don’t even care if there’s any new upgrade via the OTA. However, I do care if there’s the GPS map screen black out. It would be a pain to see a blackout GPS map.
Investing in FOA is different as in Fisker. More trustworthy 😊
Just bought mine for $19K yesterday with 6500 miles on the clock. It seems to be OK
The foa are a bunch of bullies imo there promising the world and I guarantee they won't come through with it ,I get met with hostility and bullying when I ask a relevant questions so aren't joining on that basis .
Fiskers will be written off in the event of a small crash unless you pay silly money for parts you may or may not get .
Great video, thanks Adam
Also if your in the uk and have financed it the foa disconnecting the car will actually give validation amongst other things to return the vehicle
I agree with some of the other comments..FOA ist still a bit „foggy“ for me. What you actually get is not 100% clear. 600 bugs per year is quite a lot. Especially when its a company leasing car. Actually they did not elaborate on that. What does this mean? Its not my car and I have doubts that a leasing company will pay as they have been loosing so much value already. I guess thats the case for many cars in Europe as EVs are often leased company cars here. I also do not appreciate they style of being pushend to pay or to loose something if I dont. I am greatful for all good they did, but its still unclear what it means to me ☺️
